  • Wow, you look beautiful! I try to do mostly organic all natural foods. I have cut back on meat and dairy, but I am not there yet. Also, I just discovered Quiona for animal protein replacement. Good luck on law school.

  • I love your "embrace your fro" approach! I love a good fro too and I have also seen a lot of the you tube tutorials on how to get that infamous "curl definition". I love the natural look of our hair and too much emphasis on curling it and making it look longer takes away from the true beauty of that. I'm gonna keep rockin my fro and your video has given me the extra confidence to do so! Thanks!

  • Vegan, CHECK THIS OUT:

    youtube.com/watch?v=HJptdt9HcSA

  • I say thumbs up to your comments on Curl Definition.. You are exactly right... We need to stop trying to force curl definition on ourselves so much... We just need to enjoy our hair for what it is....

  • Since you are in law school...what do you think about the verdict in the Casey Anthony trial...

  • amen i i still have my jamican afro

  • WOW! Lol. This is so weird! You're like an older version of me! Haha.

I want to be a lawyer.

    I'm a vegetarian.

And I'm nearly a year natural!

  • I love a good Afro! You look good!

  • i love your hair just like it is. I too gave up products. I use coconut oil on my body and my hair.

  • That is cute "I luv a good FRO!!!!" Haven't graduated to the fro yet...

  • Beautiful and good for you...much luck in Law School!

  • hey how are you i love your hair i rock my fro from time to time but its just not as thick as i want it do you think it could be the braids that i wear 3 weeks out a month i need some advice ive been natural sence 9/09 something im not doing right and i just cant figure it out but you keep up the good work and god bless

  • Interesting issues you are bringing up. As far as the fro. "I'm guilty " of this thinking because as I'm transtioning, one of my fears is that when it comes time for me to cut off the relaxed hair, some days, I will be stuck with a short , dry afro and won't be able to do "anything" with it. That is scary for me because I worry about the professional arena and how people will treat me if my hair looks dry and unkempt. This is mostly why I think I will stress over not having some kind of curl.

  • Girl I am feeling you on that "curl definition" stuff. Because I did not have time to sit in the house or walk around for days with my hair in twist waiting for it to set. so now, if i set it and its not "curly or wavy" I roll right on out the house anyway rocking my natural curl pattern. Good luck with law school. I tried to get in years ago, my LSAT score was a hot mess !!!! But hey I tried !!! :)

  • I agree with you that being so concerned with defining curl definition is part of our journey as a race of self acceptance; accepting our God given, tightly coiled beautiful hair. So, we really do need to ask ourselves, those who are trying desperately to make those curls "pop", our you still caught up in the ignorance of "good hair Vs. bad hair"? I sincerely hope and pray that YOU didn't straighten your hair, because it will have nothing on what you have naturally, gorgeous/healthy hair.

  • This is my first time responding to anything, but I just had to say that your hair is beautiful and I totally understand about the hair definition thing...Hair looks great in many natural ways...My hair is natural and could easily go either way (defined curl or fro), but my personal favorite is the fro...It is fuller and brings out the face so beautifully...If you have a fro out there, wear it!...Don't go crazy for curl definition...Pretty, full natural hair is lovely...

  • I enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing. You've helped me a great deal.

    Many blessings.

  • @iwoodyify Thank you for watch and blessing to you as well.

  • are you still a vegetarian, I have been doing research on it and trying to learn different and new recipes. Just wanted to request more videos on it.

    thanks

  • @hardymem I an still a vegetarian. 8 months and counting. I have thought about doing some videos on going vegetarian and some of the foods I eat be we'll see.

  • Good to see your update. Your hair has really grown and I am glad to know that your veggie juorney is going well too. I am so with you on that curly definition tip. I struugled through my first hair journey. I went through so much money trying to find a product that would magically give me that 3b look...just like you said, curly definition has replaced the relaxer. But it seem we as a community are transtioning still mental.

thanks for being brave enough to say it :)

  • @Mohagonie thank you for watching and yes our mental transition is still in progress. I know mine is anyway.

  • I like the style of your hair in this video. How did you do it?

    Cgirl2020

  • @Creditgirl2020 Thank you. This is just a 3 or 4 day old twist out sort of styled to the side a little.

  • You're right ... who doesn't love a good fro?!! I know I do ;o) Gr8 vid!

  • ur hair is beautiful...everyone has preferences, as long as those preferences were not artificially created if u get my drift, especially when it comes to hair...the hair revolution is happening one head at a time and I see that deciding to go natural has enlightened many of us to bettering ourselves in other areas besides hair...happy growing

  • @rwill117 Well said.

  • If you like Giovanni then you would LOVE "Kiss My Face"...Its an organic conditioner also. I was using Giovanni until I found out about Kiss My Face...You can purchase it at Whole Foods...its has more slip than the Giovanni and is light enough to use as a leave in. I actually did a great twist set and twist out with it...Keep up the great work!!!

  • nice afro! we need to embrace the afro! lol

  • Hey shuganaps i really enjoyed ur video! Im transitioning into becoming fully natural :) I cant wait to rock my natural hair, I like ur afro by the way its look so full and healthy! Ive been a vegetarian for almost 6 years and there is no way Im going back to eating meat, so keep at it!

  • Your hair is awesome!!!! Im going natural too...Im just stating. Pray for me.

  • I want to go back to a natural hair style. I didn't do any research the first time and it was a complete disaster. I want to thank you for your informative videos. I have the same texture hair and chased after that curl definition dream; thanks for putting that into perspective for me... You are the bomb and continued success on your natural journey. Going to subscribe so keep them coming!!!

  • Great video. You made me chuckle when you highlighted the curl definition obsession. I'm guilty lol!!! Congratulations on your daughters 21st too.x

  • Like that fro girlfriend!

  • I love a good fro.

  • Yay! Congrats - it looks like you have had a bonanza of good fortune this year!

Your hair looks glorious and healthy . Yeah chasing that curl definition can be exhaustive - watching people put eleventy thousand products on the hair and repeat this every three to five days - gah!

  • hey :) your hair is beautiful !!

  • Loved your video, completely agree with your comments on curl definition and GOOD LUCK with the LSAT!!!

  • I love all the positivity and progress & good luck on the LSAT!

  • I'm so happy you posted this video. A few days ago, I decided to do a BC and a lot of people told me that at my age, I was not going to be able to grow my hair back (I'm only 27). I know on some levels that they are wrong, but since most people I see making videos about BCs, they are usually in their early 20s when its done. Its nice to know that I don't have to worry.

  • @PatriceB82 hey hun hair IS always growing no matter the age. research it! it may grow slower or faster depending on ur age, but it will grow and ur still young. those ppl r wrong u will have long hair b4 u know it...hang n there :)

  • Curl definition or not, your hair is looking fierce in this vid! It has really grown!

  • Wow.....that was deep and so profound. Great vid. I love a good fro too.

  • Congrats! U made it..Your hair looks great. I've actually thought about the no meat thing, but i just love me a some grilled chicken..girl...LOL

  • Congratulations on making 1 year! I love your afro!

  • congratulations on your 1 year aniversary..

  • Love your afro!

  • Your hair looks great! Lots of growth. I chopped May 2009 and my length is only half of yours :(. What do you do for daily moisture to maintain length? Best wishes on your other life ventures.

  • @InfiniteMushroom Please don't get it twisted. Women who wear the hair natural don't walk around with twigs and leaves for accessories nor do they take the "plain Jane" approach. I enjoy makeup, perfume and getting my "diva" on too. And remember all that extra sugar, glaze and whipped cream leads to nothing but bad teeth, excess stomach fat and gas. There is nothing better than the all natural sweetness of a juicy ripe apple. You should give one a try.

  • @shuganaps Keep up the great work Shug...some people just are going to be stupid no matter what.

  • @benjaminscameron thank you!!

  • @shuganaps , Best reply I think i've seen on Youtube.

And just adding to the "Tom Foolery" that "infiniteMushroom" posted 4 months ago.... His response is one of the main reasons why we have so many young women embracing weave-heads (no offense- Tyra/Beyonce) as opposed to working with what God gave them. And this is no diss to beyonce or tyra but i'm just making the point that these are 2 powerful lovely women (viewed as role models) who don't need the "excess perms/weaves" and what not.

  • @InfiniteMushroom what on earth are you on about? If anything natural women are extremely creative with makeup and clothes. Typical vomit of society's stereotype.

  • @InfiniteMushroom huh? why is natural plain? actually its very unique because very few women have courage to do it! u can have ur woman who relaxes thats ur option. but it takes a strong woman to be confident in who God made her and u should respect that. besides alll the women ive seen who r natural rock their kinky hair better than any perm ive seen!

  • @InfiniteMushroom wow..brainwashed i see..women who are "natural" should not be looked at as bad, and this is coming from a guy.

  • @Zaebolista Brainwashed? Brainwashed is a condition of mindless adherence to a political or cultural belief that is harmful or contrary to accepted societal norms. Post-modernism celebrates dissonance in thought and appearance. Plain is beautiful to the PM's. At best, the "natural look" is a neutral value IMO.

What I was expressing was MY taste in feminine fashion. I like a canvas with something beautiful on it. I don't find a blank unframed canvas to be beautiful at all.

  • @InfiniteMushroom ok, i will let you have your opinion and i will have my own..i am not going to argue about it.

  • @Zaebolista you can't argue with stupid...lol...this guy doesn't know what he's missing. im a brother also that appreciates natural hair.

  • @Zaebolista I agree!!!

  • @InfiniteMushroom Sounds like your explaining a barbie

  • Your Hair is Beautiful!

  • r u a vegan? or do you eat eggs, dairy, etc? great video

  • @dkblck1958 I am not a vegan. Not yet anyway.

  • Congratulations!!! Very proud of you for going to law school...you go momma!! Love watching your videos - missed you but understand your absence. Stop by and visit us again. Take care...Peace!

  • Girl I so agree with YOU on everything!!!

Why is it that every time I watch your videos its like Im listening to myself THINK??? LOL...

A huge congratulations girl! Keep up the good work and you and your hair look FABULOUS :)

    Stay bless,

  • I have to tell you that you are on of my natural hair heroines. Your videos inspire me so much. My BC is scheduled for May 14 and I will be referencing your vids to keep me going. Thanks for what you do. Peace and blessing!!

  • @popsbaby28 thank you so much. Let me know how your BC goes. You are going to love it!!

  • i have lots of knots what do you do about that

  • @MrsAries77 There is no way to get rid of knots except to cut them out so give yourself a good trim. Then, be super careful and gentle with you hair. Try using your fingers instead of a comb. This is what I've been doing. Knots are not fun!!

  • Love your hair and congrats!!! Thank you for speaking on the issue of curl definition. I did my bc last Thurs and I find myself constantly thinking on how to define my curls? I am working on changing my thought process and not becoming a product junkie. I am going to try and focus on keeping my hair health. Oh yeah, my hair is like yours. Wash and gos do not work:)

  • First, you're beautiful inside and out. I can't believe it's been a year already. It seems like you were just telling us about how you were styling your hair until you got your bc. Love your hair. Wow!!! You've adopted the vegetarian meals into your life. There are so many dishes that are just as tasty and filling: yet, healthier and better for you. I'm also noticing your confidence is up and your branching out. Gone, get your Law School study on. Congrats to your daughter, too!!!

  • @zheahra thank you so much for your support. Your post made me feel so good. I love how we encourage each other. Take care.

  • good to hear your doing good, hair looks amazing, and good luck on the lsat. Peace and blessing.

  • @Reshay87 thank you!!

  • Congrats on going to law school:)

  • hAPPY nappiversary...good luck on law school & ur hair looks beautiful..continue to be blessed on ur journey

  • @meeksj1 Thanks you so much.

  • I cosign on the curls vs. 'fro idealism among naturals. It's annoying and I hope eventually we can move on from that and accept our hair as is. But I think it's ok to want to vamp it up now and then but not to obsess over silky, defined curls.

  • @FaithPeach i agree with you on that.

  • Beautiful hair. Yes I love olive oil too it's so multipurpose. I feel the same way about the obsession with curls. Curl definition or not our hair is beautiful. I wish more people would just understand that.

  • Happy 1 yr naturalversary!! your hair has grown beautifully!!

  • AMEN on the curl definition....Lordy did I go through that.

  • I agree with the elongation of curls and curl definition. I've grown to appreciate my texture and the power of my hair. The moist important thing to me is moisture.

Congrats on becoming a vegetarian, if you want more insight check out Queen Afua(Heal Thyself...) books, she's AWESOME.

  • @ShoeAficionada thanks for the book referral.

  • Congrads on your one year nappiversary. I will be celebrating mine tomorrow. Your hair looks great. Good luck in all you endeavors.

  • @Nicsnaps Happy Anniversary to you as well. Time goes by so fast.

  • I'm lovin' your fro! It rocks! I'm transitioning, so watching your fro grow is something I am looking forward to doing. Thanks for your comment about curl definition and people getting obsessed it. I was already noticing that and thinking that I finally wanted to stop obsessing about hair and just be, and enjoy natures gift. Success with your LSAT! :)

  • Im so glad u said that about the curl def. ITS TRUE it is taking the place of a relaxer. But it is STILL a first step in the rt direction of realizing our hair is beautiful. I hope more women see ur video and question the whole "I NEED CURLS mentality"! great vid...if i cud give 5 stars i wud...:)

  • @Naturallyhomegrown Thanks for the rating and yes I agree that at least we are heading in the right direction with our hair.

  • Congrats!!!

  • Congratulations with everything!!! Your hair looks great and I was so happy to see you:) Great Video and you are so right about obsessing over curl definition curlychronicles just posted a video about that! Thanks:)

  • You look so great!!!!!!Am looking forwand to mine!!!

  • Hair Envy!!!! Your hair is gorgeous!!

  • I just love your hair...

  • Great to see you again. Congrats on your 1 yr anniversay!!! Your hair has really grown. Wish you the best in your studies.

  • ive been a vegetarian for a year and 3 months now and im not going back to meat. however my first summer, thanksgiving and christmas was kinda hard for me because there was nothing for me to eat really. its really pissed me off lmao. but as i got to know more about soy products it has become really easy for me and i love it. i just take a multivitamin now because i know there is certain vitamins that ill be lacking due to me not eatting meat

  • @kimmy8188 Ok. Thanks for the advice. I know that I'm not looking forward to my first summer cookout. But I'll be alright. Thank you again.

  • You look gorgeous! Congratulations on your anniversary. I'm thinking about your curl definition comments - I recently decided to embrace my wash and go so I could get to know my hair as it is and your words re encouragement. It's nice to see you again.

  • Oh my gosh. I don't even know where to begin. Congratulations for you 1 year anniversary. Also I do agree that we should not have a melt down if we don't achieve perfect curl definition but for me, I have to get as close as I can b/c my hair is fine to medium. I love thick hair b/c I love afros. Also a daughter 21 years old? I would have given you age 30 @ the most. You look wonderful. And definitely not least, I pray that you exceed expectations for you law exam. God bless.

  • @11zeaky Oh my goodness. Thank you for your words. I really appreciate it so much. Be blessed.

  • I feel you on the curl definition thing. I'm liking my fro more and more. Glad to see your doing well your hair looks great. Stay Blessed!!

  • i like what you said about the curl definition... i want to try living as a vegetarian i still have to look through your videos to see if you talked about it yet but how did you transition into vegetarianism did you go cold turkey or did you just slowly prepared yourself for it?

  • @solidice242 I went cold turkey. 12/31/09 was my last taste of meat. Prior to going vegetarian i always went days without meat.

  • Congratulations!!!!...good for you for not being a PJ...and wishin u much success in law school..

  • Beautiful hair lady, thank u 4 the product reviews and information. PEACE.

  • Hey girl! It is so great to see and hear from you. I am excited to get your update. You have hit the nail on the head. Wash n go hair does not work for me. However, I do get curls, not like I like it. Also, I think your hair looks fantastic. I appreciate you words of encouragement. I have been trying to grow my hair out.

  • If you would like to straighten your hair, try to do a roller set on natural hair. Your hair looks great!!!!

  • miss you so much....and this video was such a good way of coming back....I agree with the curl definition issue we all have gone through that styling excessively to achieve the coveted curl...great food for thought....good luck in your LSATs.

  • Happy Anniversary!!!! You have amazing growth and your hair looks great!

  • @ladydymond25 Thank you!!

  • I'm starting to get over the curl defining mindset as well. The process begins to become tedious and more work than enojoyment. And people are in awe of my fro when I wear it :) ! Its a work in progress to let the curl mind go, but I am coming around lol.

  • @mRzChErRyIzDaNaMe People love an afro. I get the "awe"look too.

  • i totally agree with what u said about curl definition!

  • i bc'd one year ago today

  • @conniestwin88 Happy Annniversary!!!! Feels good, doesn't it.

  • @shuganaps thanks...it feels wonderful
