Show me where the so-called modern idea of man's will is in the OT and NT? How about Joshua 24:15 and Revelation 22:17? Does Morey know his Bible? Well of course he does but he only has this one teeny-weeny little problem: he doesn't believe what it says.
@lessingtom The Joshua verse is telling the pagans choose which pagan God you will serve. It is not even including the true and living God, but even if it were, that is just a declarative imperative or command saying nothing of how one chooses or the nature of the will. And the Revelation one says, "let whoever will, come," again saying nothing of why someone comes and why others don't, or if people have the capacity to will and come and on what basis. You have assumed your unbiblical position.
How would you deal with this passage Dr. Morey, or do you prefer not to deal with it?: "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" [Luk 11:13]
@lessingtom There are those who are His children and those who are not. Real simple. There are sheep and there are goats. Also, those who sincerely ask God for salvation show they are regenerated of God, those who don't show they aren't. You seem to be having difficulty with very rudimentary pieces of data.
Why would it be necessary to ask for salvation when you have already been regenerated of God? You don't believe in free-will but is "asking for salvation" not an act of one's free-will? The asking implies "wanting" something or "not wanting" something which in turn points to free-will. No so?
Are you lost because you ARE a goat or are you lost because you have used your free-will to choose a life contrary to the preaching of the cross of Christ? Similarly, are you a sheep because you have always been a sheep even before the foundation of the earth or have you become one because you have responded (using your free-will) in faith to the preaching of the cross of Christ? Or have you never been a goat (unsaved) but always a sheep (saved)?
@lessingtom One is elect before the foundation of the world, but the order of salvation does happen in time and space with humans making determined choices. Look up "ordo salutis," and you'll have the explanation you seek.
Tom and Chris: don't ever give up putting this material out. You guys have been a huge help and edification in my personal growth on the Word of God. Chris I don't think you remember but you had a 5 minutes or so conversation with me at Santa Monica when I was still Arminian and what you told me really hit home..you were one of the persons God used to humble me to Calvinism..and Tom you as well.
