Sen. Obama played by the rules and has won the majority of elected delegates, as well as the popular vote. He won the majority of contests, and, now, most super-delegates have ratified the will of the people, as it has been expressed by all three measures.
As Thomas Jefferson, the founder of the party, once said, a majority of one vote is as sacred as that of the unanimous. So, Sen. Clinton's historic campaign should now be remembered as having paved the way for future female candidates.
Superdelegates were intended to act as a counterweight to a system which might allow someone (like McGovern) to win lots of caucuses in red states and thus
overproduce a delegate count which did not match his/her electability. They were not meant to rubber-stamp the pledged delegates.
If the UNELECTED super-delegates were to overturn the will of the people, as it has been expressed by the number of ELECTED delegates, the Democratic Party will be destroyed because more than half of it would change registrations and boycott anyone with a "D" next to his or her name.
Get real. The process is over, and the nomination belongs to Senator Obama because, after Pennsylvania, he has now earned an insurmountable majority of elected delegates.
The only way Clinton could ever be considered to have won the popular vote is if: (1.) one excludes all the states that use caucuses; and, (2.) if one includes the absolutely illegitimate elections in both Michigan and Florida.
an equal amount of hillary and obama supporters didn't come out to vote.
obama voluntarily took his name off the ballot. his fault.
obama and two others, the only other notable candidate was edwards.
honoring the rules of disenfranchising voters is not one we should believe in, neither one thought it would come to the states, they had to be counted once they effected the nomination. this is America, we're suppose to count votes u nazi douche
Incidentally, every hypothetical state-by-state match-up shows Senator Obama outperforming Senator Clinton against Senator McCain, so Obama wins the electability argument, too.
The people have spoken. They have their nominee. It's time to come together now and prevent a third Bush term from destroying the country even further.
What a blatant liar. Check your polls buddy. Check the General Election match-ups on RealClearPolitics. Hillary wins FL v. McCain by 2-9%, Obama loses by 8%. Florida has alot more electoral college weight than IOWA (which will end up going red anyway, LOL).
What the hell is with this electability bull shit. If they get elected that would determine their electability. Saying they are unelectable before an election is removing the democratic process. The only way an unelectable person could win is through the un-proportional weight of the super-delegates, thus they create the problem you speak of them trying to solve.
hahahah This is how naive Obama supporters are. They're like "Donna Brazil is a great authority on the nominatin process!!!!" lol You're so pathetic-your dark overlord Barack Obama won't be winning the nomination unless he steals it.
Donna Brazil started out as a Hillary supporter, but as of late she has been saying better and better things about Obama and more unflattering things to Hillary.
He had nothing to do with why they haven't revoted. There were real problems with all the plans to revote, and neither state's legislation could work out a solution that was fair.
Just because Clinton said something doesn't make it so. In fact, if past record is any indicator, when a Clinton says something, take a second and third look at what they are saying.
Obama winning would ignore millions of people in Florida and Michigan. If the bastard cared about them he would have let them revote, but he stopped that effort because he is a bad person.
Those states chose to break the rules, even after the DNC told them what would happen. Why should we reward them with a new vote? Whats the point of having rules if we don't stick to the punishment? and what kind of future flood gate would that open? They screwed themselvs.
Obama clearly stated he was going with whatever the DNC ruled. They ruled it was impossible to revote because the measure was stopped in the state senate in both instances.
What would you want Obama do? do a hunger strike in front of the MIchigan/Florida state senate buildings?
Oh shut up. The only person who has consistently used the race card was Obama but I guess you could expect that from a "typical black person". See, it works both ways obama supporters.
Scary to think that one of the biggest race-baiters in the country, Donna Brazile, has any say at all in the Democratic process, other than being allotted her one vote. She's the very vocal Obama surrogate who said that she, as an African American, found Bill Clinton's remarks (calling Obama a "kid") troubling. What a joke.
Google Sean Wilentz's great article on the Obama camp's continuous race-baiting during this campaign.
Donna Brazile was Al Gore's campaign manager when he lost to George Bush--the worst President ever. She ran a nobel laureate against a chimpanzee and lost. The fact is she totally screwed this situation up. She is the reason anti-Clinton Democrats always lose the White House.
She says the superdelegates shouldn't over-rule the will of the people. But she over-rules the will of the voters of Florida and Michigan.
So if you want to lose to McCain in 2008, follow Donna Brazile's advice.
So Bush is Donna Brazile's fault now? Not the fault of "hanging chads" or the Supreme Court or scores of gullible voters that believed the lie that he said he invented the internet? Or Clinton fatigue?
They broke the rules by moving thier primaries forward, they knew what the punishment would be and they did it anyway how is this Obamas fault? You should be mad at those states officals + Gore won the popular vote with Brazile as his camp mgr so she deserves some respect. Bush won with electorial college + Supreme court.

Why is she still in the race? Obama leads in popular votes, Delegates & twice as many states. She has to win every remaining state by 70%-30% & if you add FL. and Mi. she has to win 65%-35% which is not possible...

If John Kerry had dropped out in 2004 before the votes were counted the country would have been outraged. Don't try to bully Hillary out of this race. It just shows how intimidated you are by her credentials.
Obama Lie: "My School In Indonesia Was Christian" - LIAR, you were registered as Muslim there and got in trouble in Koranic Studies for making faces (check your own book).
Obama Lie: "My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom" - LIAR, your cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya. It is the first widespread violence in decades.
Obama Lie: "I Have Clean Connections Despite Rezko"- LIAR, you are not only connected to Exelon and Rezko, you are also connected to Hillary PAC supporter Mr. Hsu, AND an Iraqi Billionaire of ill repute, Nadhmi Auchi, who ripped off people in the Food For Oil, Iraqi deal.Seems Mr. Auchi may have helped Obama buy his million dollar property long before Obama had millions of dollars. Wonder what favors Mr. Auchi expects, when Obama leaves Iraq free to be taken over by special interests such as him
Obama Lie: "I never heard sermons like Rev. Wright's, that have been in videos all day, on You Tube" - LIAR! 3 days later during your Mea Culpa speech you said "Did I hear controversial statements while I sat in that church? Yes I did."
Obama doesn't care about the Democratic party. He's winning by perverting its principles. It would be a true disaster for the Democrats if he were elected and then disenfranchised their ideals.
I love how you reverse the positions. It is Hillary that wants to change the rules! Hillary, John Ewards, & Obama signed a "no compete clause" for both Michigan and Florida. Now she says No, I won in each of those states! That is total bullshit! That is like saying I won the baseball game that was called on a count of rain, because you didn't show up. Hillary can't win and she knows it! Why then divide the party?
This is going to be the end of the Democratic party.
Superdelegates were intended to act as a counterweight to a system which might allow someone (like McGovern or Obama) to win lots of caucuses in red states and thus
overproduce a delegate count which did not match his/her electability. They were not meant to rubber-stamp the pledged delegates.
Brazile is obviously an Obama supporter - she should really just say it.
If Hillary were black - Brazile would be gushing the love for Hillary!
Obama is beating Hillary for a reason. She's a tremendously flawed candidate and he's run a solid campaign where she's run a wasteful one. He has shown remarkable leadership over his candidacy, while Hillary has consitantly shown herself to be a poor judge of character and strategy. Now she's playing spoiler for McCain, and you Clinton supporters are willing to watch her throw an election. For what? Pride? Anger? Fear?
Obama has won, and he will be a good President. Join us and help.
Obama has won by catering red states. He's exactly the kind of candidate the party's process is designed to filter out. There's no substance to his candidacy-just hysteria.
HRC and OHB should take it to the convention...will not be the first time and if the american people want a Dem will be president if not then McCain will be
Why does she not just give Obama the two votes she brags about...She is like Lehea telling clinton to get out while OBama says she should stay in...................dont worry Brazil you will not be another conde
Those who say the rules are the rules, say that when your state and your vote doesn't count. Say it when your candidate is the one that won your state. The contest is so close. If we had a re-do, tables could turn. Obama camp would rather inhibit democracy.
What is the Obama Campaign afraid of?
Why are they blocking the process?
Why doesn't the media want the contest to continue? Because it's Hillary's turn, that's why. ^^ + ^^
Why should Florida Democrats get treated as though we are responsible for the Republican-contolled State Legislature's rule of moving up the primary date? We are to be counted out by the DNC because of something we had no control over? These are the kinds of things that are embarassing to Democrats. I don't care if George Washington made the rules, this isn't NAZI Germany. If a rule says that innocent, law abiding citizens are to be disenfranchised, then the "Democratic" Party's name is a prob.
You don't have to pay for it -- are you being dense on purpose? Wealthy Hillary supporters are willing to put up half the money for a revote and asked Obama wealthy supporters (and he has many) to put up half as well. BO is is in a fix because he knows he'll lose in WI and FL and most likely will lose the nomination -- but if he continues to deny them he'll definitely lose in the general. Isn't the point of this to win in November? He's got to count FL and MI to be legit.
He won't lose in the general in those states, because it's absolutely not his fault party rules were broken... Also Clinton would give a shit about FL and MI if she was in the position Obama is right now.. unfortunately for you this is not yet the Repug party.. rules still count for something. Deal with it.
Actually all the delegates can vote for whoever they want. That is to avoid choosing a nominee who may be unelectable in a close race. cough cough. Wait till the Repubs start dishing the Obama/wright thing in earnest... We all can have opinions, but in the end Obama will, unfortunately, probably get the nomination and Mccain will probably win the general. Just look at the head to head numbers and the surprisingly positive trend in Iraq....
tactically speaking, the general winner has to carry Florida and Hillary won that state but Dean wont give her those delegates. Obama is now less electable than Hillary in the general because of the Wright issue. And Obama is far short of the delegates he needs to win. Hillary would be foolish to drop out now, because she is more electable than Obama. He is going to get "Swift Boated" out of the election against McCain.
Hilary is less electable because she lied about her trip to Bosnia on 3 distinct occasions, and said she "misspoke". That was undeniable evidence in the flesh. The Wright madness- not a hindrance on Obama's campaign that way it was two weeks ago in the light of her craziness. Oh yeah, MI and FL, agreed they wouldn't be counted, and Hilary said those states didn't matter. Now that she's behind, now Barack is the problem with being electable. Obama is more stable now than ever.
Yeah I am sure all the voters in Florida are cool with not being counted. Are you kidding? in the long run, the Wright thing is going to be far more of an albatross than the Bosnia exaggeration. Plus, although Hillary has no desire to expand upon it, the comments that Wright said recently were apparently only the tip of the Ice berg. Obama will get pummeled for his lack of honesty about his knowledge (I would have left if he hadn't retired...) in the general.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You are either really young and misguided or you are grossly misinformed. There's a list of at least 60 lies BO has told to date -- he's a chronic liar -- and being a 20 year member of a racist, anti-Semitic and anti-American church has killed his chances to ever be president. Whether or not he beats the nomination out of the DNC doesn't matter, he'll never be elected. Most Hillary supporters won't vote for him, and he needs our votes to win in the GE.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh man, Donna, Donna, Donna...you tried to talk like you stand for the party, but you forgot that the party is the people. Why should Dems count MI and FL...because we need the voters of MI and FL to win elections. Good lord I hope you help us PA, KY, OR, WV, NC, etc...vote Hillary and make these credential people chew on their BO-loving votes. Errg.
I am amazed that people are all for keeping the votes of so many people from counting. What has happened to the Democratic party? It used to stand for fairness, counting every vote, and democracy. Appalling.
The prospects of the entire business being a fix is well over 50%. This is why people get into politic; to beat the crap out of the even odds. I am sure over 90% of these twerpi would like to figure out a way to cheat their way to wealth. Their "work" is to bugger the odds no matter what the cost to the truth or well being of their constituants. They got the wheelin' and dealin' thing happening.
My question would be, what about states like Texas, where Obama won the caucus and Clinton won the primary? Since Obama pulled more delegates, does he control the 3 Texas Credential Committee delegates? How about Nevada, where Clinton "won" the caucus, but Obama pulled more delegates?
There are still so many procedural questions left out there, and that's why it would be a really bad thing to have this turn into an ugly fight on the convention floor.
Lol, typing the words "first comment" is reall no comment at all. Why dont we pretend neither of us has posted yet so you can take another crack at it by posting something that at least remotely has anything to do with the video. Ok? Ill check back to read your real comment here in a bit.
Donna Brazile and Stephanopolous used to be B Clinton advisers. A lot of former Clinton advisers now support Obama. Why? Why has HRC antagonized Al Gore and many others?
HRC's former health care adviser Bradford Delong said:
HRC "needs to be kept [..] away from the White House for the rest of her life. [..]
She had neither the grasp of policy substance, the managerial skills, nor the political smarts to do the [health care] job [..]. And she wasn't smart enough to [..] get out [..] QUICKLY."
"So when [told] that key senators like Daniel Patrick Moynihan would have this-and-that objection, she told them they were disloyal. [..]
When long-time senior hill staffers told her that she was making a dreadful mistake by fighting with rather than reaching out to John Breaux and Jim Cooper, she told them that they did not understand the wave of popular political support the bill would generate."
"When junior members of the economic team told her that the Congressional Budget Office would say such-and-such, she told them (wrongly) that her conversations with CBO head Robert Reischauer had already fixed that"
Donna Brazile and Stephanopolous used to be advisers to Bill Clinton. A lot of former Clinton advisers now support Obama. Why is that? Why has HRC antagonized Al Gore and so many others.
Listen what her former health care adviser Bradford Delong has to say about working with HRC (continued)
HRC's WH schedules show that after her health care debacle, she was suspended from any active role in the WH.
Berkeley economist Bradford Delong from HRC's health care team said:
"Hillary Clinton needs to be kept [..] away from the White House for the rest of her life. [..]
She had neither the grasp of policy substance, the managerial skills, nor the political smarts to do the job [..]. And she wasn't smart enough to realize that she [..] had to get out of the Health Care Czar role QUICKLY."
I always knew that a lot of people dont like Hillary but I figured I should pay close attention to her during this campaign and form an opinion for myself. Her entire behaviour is bothersome to me, Ive rarely found myself approving of the way shes handled almost any situation, and honestly her political tactics and way of thinking often reminds me of the current administration. From what I can tell, she is the definition of the Sleazy politician.
I don't care what anyone says. Donna Brazile is HOT. Love that southern accent. She is nice and thick.

The elections were illegitimate for four main reasons:
1. Citizens were told the elections would not count so many decided to stay home or to vote in the G.O.P. primaries.
2. Candidates agreed to not campaign in these states, so Clinton's name recognition gave her an undue advantage.
3. Obama and most other candidates removed their names from the ballots to respect the D.N.C. position.
4. All the candidates acknowledged and honored the rules until one of them started losing.

If John Kerry had dropped out in 2004 before the votes were counted the country would have been outraged. Don't try to bully Hillary out of this race. It just shows how intimidated you are by her credentials.

Clinton doesn't care about what's best for the democratic party... she only cares about winning!
thrownover65 3 years ago
Obama doesn't care about the Democratic party. He's winning by perverting its principles. It would be a true disaster for the Democrats if he were elected and then disenfranchised their ideals.
zeiters20 3 years ago

Join us and help.
freff 3 years ago
Obama has won by catering red states. He's exactly the kind of candidate the party's process is designed to filter out. There's no substance to his candidacy-just hysteria.

HRC and OHB should take it to the convention...will not be the first time and if the american people want a Dem will be president if not then McCain will be

elenora8 3 years ago
I.E.-It's not democratic.
LET MICHIGAN AND FLORIDA VOTE
2025DPlaza 3 years ago
Why should Florida Democrats get treated as though we are responsible for the Republican-contolled State Legislature's rule of moving up the primary date? We are to be counted out by the DNC because of something we had no control over? These are the kinds of things that are embarassing to Democrats. I don't care if George Washington made the rules, this isn't NAZI Germany. If a rule says that innocent, law abiding citizens are to be disenfranchised, then the "Democratic" Party's name is a prob.
2025DPlaza 3 years ago
You don't have to pay for it -- are you being dense on purpose? Wealthy Hillary supporters are willing to put up half the money for a revote and asked Obama wealthy supporters (and he has many) to put up half as well. BO is is in a fix because he knows he'll lose in WI and FL and most likely will lose the nomination -- but if he continues to deny them he'll definitely lose in the general. Isn't the point of this to win in November? He's got to count FL and MI to be legit.
seattlegonz 3 years ago
You know, it's all about the bitch, isn't it?
j0hnwi11iams 3 years ago
He won't lose in the general in those states, because it's absolutely not his fault party rules were broken... Also Clinton would give a shit about FL and MI if she was in the position Obama is right now.. unfortunately for you this is not yet the Repug party.. rules still count for something. Deal with it.
s4life 3 years ago
Actually all the delegates can vote for whoever they want. That is to avoid choosing a nominee who may be unelectable in a close race. cough cough. Wait till the Repubs start dishing the Obama/wright thing in earnest... We all can have opinions, but in the end Obama will, unfortunately, probably get the nomination and Mccain will probably win the general. Just look at the head to head numbers and the surprisingly positive trend in Iraq....
Carl5agan 3 years ago
tactically speaking, the general winner has to carry Florida and Hillary won that state but Dean wont give her those delegates. Obama is now less electable than Hillary in the general because of the Wright issue. And Obama is far short of the delegates he needs to win. Hillary would be foolish to drop out now, because she is more electable than Obama. He is going to get "Swift Boated" out of the election against McCain.
Carl5agan 3 years ago
Hilary is less electable because she lied about her trip to Bosnia on 3 distinct occasions, and said she "misspoke". That was undeniable evidence in the flesh. The Wright madness- not a hindrance on Obama's campaign that way it was two weeks ago in the light of her craziness. Oh yeah, MI and FL, agreed they wouldn't be counted, and Hilary said those states didn't matter. Now that she's behind, now Barack is the problem with being electable. Obama is more stable now than ever.
Williamkurk 3 years ago 5
Yeah I am sure all the voters in Florida are cool with not being counted. Are you kidding? in the long run, the Wright thing is going to be far more of an albatross than the Bosnia exaggeration. Plus, although Hillary has no desire to expand upon it, the comments that Wright said recently were apparently only the tip of the Ice berg. Obama will get pummeled for his lack of honesty about his knowledge (I would have left if he hadn't retired...) in the general.

Great explanation by Donna Brazile.
