By the time he got better he realized he'd never be full strength again because of his injury. He'd been wanting to take the mask off anyways, so he picked that time to do it because it gave him time to rest while doing the storyline without wrestling that much and not taking time off without pay.

WWF was the time that people like Kane were very athletic, you could see Big Show doing dropkicks, Kane doing hurricanranas from turnbuckle, and other talent that weren't wasted, but now, WWE see a huge talent in front of them(like Evan Bourne) and put him as a jobber, is rare to see him in a big main event, the unique i ever saw was the Fatal 4 Way match with him vs Jericho(Evan won), but now, he is just jobbing.

I too miss the passion in the announcers voices, the passion and skill that wrestlers once had, the excellent story writers that existed in the wwf, who would do anything to please the fans. Now, in the wwe the announcers talk about ppvs, they hardly announce the matches, and when they do, not nearly as much excitement as before. Being a champion requires loads of time and responsibility, it's a very stressful spot and Kane really doesn't need to be champion.
