In March of '86, I moved to LA and my roommate dragged me to see CVB. After one show, I was hooked. Over the next 18 months, we probably saw Camper at least a dozen times around Los Angeles! Ahhh, good times.......
I was walking around Bele Chere in Asheville this past year when my sister and I heard a hippie laying in the grass on an acoustic guitar singing "Just get high while the radio's on." We sat there chuckling to ourselves and then two weeks later, I'm listening around the Camper Van stuff and lo, and beyond, here's the song. Don't I feel like an idiot...
since i first heard it (i guess back in 87) it has been one of my favourite songs; it is simply great! @sigmund5 nice idea, to have that as a starting point to talk about deviancy; I'd use it for discussing fate and the commoner's conviction that s/he deservedly lives under the circumstances s/he finds to be so goot: "if you didn't live her in america, you'd probably live somewhere else" (and i never could have put it in that clearcut way)
What a great time when the slacker ethos was a fashionable music scene. Now everything thing is like some creepy eighties nightmare, with everyone having a rod up their ass.

@jdtink19 Good story, and you are not an idiot.

@jdtink19 I agree; good story...it's not surprising, though, as this is one of CVB's simpler chord structures...I think it's A-D-E...

In it's way one of the best songs ever. The way they get a certain mood and attitude to shine through. Absolutely incredible. Great posting.
