Putting these caps on your cats' claws seems to deny them their natural function, as claws are used for climbing, traction (pouncing, turning...), defending themselves and scratching. Scratching is part of their regular self-maintenance program and it stretches and tones your cats' back and shoulder muscles. You could use a scratching post and reward good behavior, while discouraging scratching where you don't want it to happen. That new floor can't be that important.
