  • The Northstar V8 was the last pure bread Cadillac engine. Now they just run on GM corporate engines, but at least they're keeping the V8 tradition alive.

  • Regarding the Crown Vic/Grand Marquis deal, any Northstar Caddy in healthy-running order would leave the Vic behind. I used to drive an '01 Seville and now drive an '05 Police Interceptor (250hp/297tq) and although it'd definitely touchier down low IMO, it just has nowhere near the top-end pull that the Northstar has. The Vic is plenty great for grunting around town and perhaps quick stop light drags, but once it's up and moving at any decent speed, it just doesn't have my old Caddy's pull :/

  • Yep, same tires as the Corvette. Z rated for performance. The ETC is known as the 4 seater Corvette of it's time. Well, to the people that really know cars anyway. lol

  • I've had all different models of cadillacs-91 seville, 77 Coupe, 84 Biarritz rag top, and now I just got this '99 Eldorado ETC (my Deville was crunched in a crash-their fault) and it only had 66,900 miles on it! It even has the original optional phone that came with it lol! Super clean car and I looooove to drive it! It passes cars like they're standing still! So smooth, like riding on glass, but the power it has is AWESOME!

  • That's pretty fast!!!

  • your only getting 17 mpg out of it? i know for sure they can do mid 20s easy

  • @lucasorcorey That's city driving.

  • @lucasorcorey 17MPG!!!!??? I only get 13.5 in city:(

  • I have a 98 Eldorado thats jsut the base model w/ 275hp does it have a governor that can be removed or is it computer controlled?

  • @Mahnza123 It's programmed into the computer. The only way to remove it is to have the computer reprogrammed by a company in Canada called Westers.

  • yea i bought a ETC and was wondering the top speef and sure enough the factory sticker came with optional Z rated tires and the door sticker is z rated but i havent got to 150 yet lol not where to find out around here but when im on the highway i just push it halfway and it soars past 100 like nothing keeps going.... i will find out sooner or later i guess

  • got low 6s 6.2-6.3 it looked like the camera was at a little bit of an angle tho so it was hard to tell when exactly it hit 60. fast though, i love these cars

  • whats the top speed?

  • @dnl5649 Mine is only H rated so it's governed to 130. If you can find a Z rated car, they aren't governed and will top out between 150 and 160.

  • @austin99etc holy shit!!!!! where do you find one of those??!!!

  • @dnl5649 The Z rated cars are hard to find. Z rated refers to the tire specs. When looking at an ETC or Seville STS look at the tire size sticker.

  • @dnl5649 Having topped out at 160-161 witht he wind at my back i checked to see and sure enough z rating, there will be a speed column around center sticker and next to each tire size is a Z.

  • I love how the auto transmission waits until it's nearly red-lining to shift. It gets better acceleration that way.

  • these r fwd?

  • @bergaflickal Yes. FWD Auto. 4.6L Northstar V8 300hp/295tq.

  • Nice one Austin- Chad.

  • @Pigs3differentones Thanks. I'm surprised you just now found this.

  • Nice run. Do this again w/ the windows up. You should get a better time. My '96 stock ETC does 0-60 in 5.8 secs. Make sure your air E brake pedal is fully released. If it has an air leak, it may be partially on. Theres a (tiny) hidden black metal release lever 2 the right of the E brake pedal.

If I was single, and had no need 4 family 2 ride along. I would gut it (even all the power seats & windows etc.) 2 really drop some wieght & pump up the power. xD Might be able shave off a sec. Maybe 2!

  • @EL345150 dumbest thing i've ever heard

  • how do u keep cool a northstar i own a 93 eldo and just wondering if theres anything aftermarket to help the cooling of the engine , also what can i do to cut down my fuel ??

  • @TubeYou380 If it is running hot, or warmer than it should, you need to get a kit from a parts store to check to see if there are exhaust gases in the coolant. If there is exhaust gas in the coolant that means the head gaskets are going bad and will have to be repaired by restudding the block. If you are just looking for additional cooling check into adding an electric fan. As for gas mileage, if it's a lot of city driving, they're just not good on gas. Go easy on the throttle, that's about it.

  • holy shit

  • dang for $3000 this car must be one of the best choices. im trying to save up for a car and im definetely getting a cadillac. drive with class

  • @eragon1518 If you can find one in good shape for 3 grand it could be worth buying. If they are that cheep though, I would check it out really well and make sure there's nothing wrong with it. It can get expensive to work on these cars really quickly. The biggest thing on a Northstar powered car is to make sure it isn't running hot. Head gasket replacement is about a $1500 job, or more.

  • @eragon1518 Check into the '96 or later ETC (Eldorado Touring Coupe). Cadi comfort, style, and ride, with NorhtStar V8 Corvette like suspension and power when you need it. Great MPG too. The computer does a great job if you don't drive like a nut all the time. lol Those ricers and other V8's never see it coming unitl I go past in a flash when it's time to drop the hammer. xD

  • nice eldorado! personally, i like the older versions but this is a sweet car. i currently own a 1988 cadillac deville

  • @joeym2013 I have a 1991 Deville as well. I've had to sort out a couple of issues with it but I really enjoy it as well. The Eldorado and Deville are a nice compliment to one another. The ETC is a sportier 2 door that handles better and is faster. The Deville is powered by the 4.9. The 4.9 is botttom end torque where the N* is top end pull.

  • simply amazing -) *thumbs up*

  • Pretty damn quick for such a big heavy car. The only thing I don't like is the gearing. When the RPMs drop too low, it feels like you're flying with no speed control.

  • faster then i expected

  • How much an Eldorado '99 cost?

  • i have a 94 eldorado touring coupe and i love the car. so much power. i keep up with gt nustangs. havent been beat yet.

    nice car man 5 *****

  • i love by 98 eldo etc with blue leather, 12 disc cd changer, car phone, heated seats, and so on... luxury that can still take on most cars. and the etc is the "sport mode" version. =) it feels good to beat mustang gt's in a smoother better looking older car (-_-)

  • @JPTight Hell yeah! '96 ETC! Had mine since 2003. Won't sell it for anything. Pulls like a raped ape and never gives me any issues. Great in the rain, snow and ice. I love my sleeper beast! The old lady has the non ETC. '98 standard Eldo (a bit cushier ride and a floatier suspension). I love my half Corvette / half Cadi suspension better though. Much more balanced. Takes turns like a dream just under 1 G at high speeds. Her softer ride is better when I have a kidney stone. I hate those!

  • why does it shift so high? it is an automatic clearly. does it have a "sport" mode?

  • Nope, no "sport" mode. The computer is programmed to to shift at redline under full throttle.

  • @trav10854 No It Doesnt I Have The Same Car Its Like That

  • between 0:16 -0:19 sounds like christine :)

  • I looked at all your Vidoes & appears this is your Best 0-60 Time. I also Noticed its your Lowest Tank of Gas. The ETC offers Plenty of Daily Driving Power & Will Beat 90% of Cars on the Road + a Bit of Luxury to Boot! I Love my 98 ETC

  • I am very attached to mine. I love Cadillacs in general. Just bought a 1991 Sedan Deville the other day. The two of them makes for an attractive driveway.

  • that was amazing !!! It looks clearly that, this eldo is doing faster than 7 seconds....

    Cadillac Eldorado OWNS !!!!!!!!!!!

  • i currently own a 99 sts... but i've come 2 face facts that ETC is clearly faster then STS by wat seems like about half a second

  • i have a 98 eldo. I have had the car for 3 years and the car is a fuckin beast. i have loved it ever since a got it. it has 226 thousand miles and still runs like a champ. yours does seem really fast though proly bc it has less miles. but still a lot faster than mine even when i first got it with 157 thousand miles??

  • my neighbor has one in black they r quick as hell i was doin aout like 120 in the freeway with out even knowin

  • 97+ etc would destroy any grand marquis or crown vic easily...

    04 crown vic 224 hp, 265 torque... 4057 lbs

An Eldo with an L37 northstar 300hp, 295 torque weighing 3876 lbs.

  • Lol his AVG MPG went down XD

  • damn i was thinkin about an sts for my first car so i could haul around friends and stuff but i kinda want an eldo now its prettier

  • hjaha my 95 grand marquis can do 100 mph is 13 secs :D ill smoke that pos

  • pos? hahaha dude i've got a 98 marquis and i would love to have an eldorado, it's not all about speed. style and comfort is the name of the game with these warships with wheels.

  • The Grand Marquis' are good cars, but no match for anything with the Northstar in it. If his '95 will hit 100 in 13 secs it's not stock. With that being said, someone can trash talk my car if they want. It's what I wanted and I love my car. Even at 10 years old it still turns heads and gets compliments. And I can't count the times that I've been asked what I want for it. Wonder when the last time was someone wanted his car...

  • IDK about his 95, but our old 03 Vic will destroy this car, Im not trashing it, because I love these caddies

  • A crown victoria or mercury grand marquis of any year and type will not match a northstar-powered Eldorado of ANY year in acceleration.

I own a 00 ESC and I could easily take any of them.

  • There are videos of Vics taking Northstar Eldorados on youtube, and you own an ESC(Escalade?)

  • ESC = Eldorado Sports Coupe. The rarer, torquier of the two variants.

and a crown vic has a quoted 0-60 of 8 seconds.... slow as hell compared to northstar powered coupes and sedans.

  • oh, there are videos on you tube of vics doing 0-60 around 6. And the car in the vid does it in 8

  • Well... there IS a video of a 99 vic getting smoked in the parking lot by what looks like an old 4.9 liter powered deville...

    :)

A car with 250 extra pounds and 70 fewer horsepower is NOT faster. The end.

  • big rims on the CV, stock on the Caddie, CV has twice the rolling resistance. Did ya watch the video of the 03 Interceptor Vs the 01 Caddie?

  • no lo hizo en 6 amigo te confundes

  • Don't speak or read in Spanish, sorry

  • you're wrong the does it in 6,5 seconds from 0 to 60 miles

  • Count from when the tach moves, then pause when the needles shadow hits 60

  • look friend starts at 15 seconds and reaches 60 miles at 21 seconds is 6 seconds is too fast!!! el dorado

  • You counting from when the needle hits 60, the camera is at an angle count to the shadow

  • The camera's not really sitting at an angle. It was sitting on top of the center of the steering wheel looking directly at the IP.

  • Its not pointed at the driver level view, the center of the steering wheel is still at an angle

  • nah thats the name they gave for the base for 2000 the real machine is the ETC.

  • true.... the difference in acceleration is slight. roughly 1/3 of a second.... the ETC is much better as far as turning and manuevering goes.. this beast of mine is just a boat.

  • The turning radius of the Eldorados isn't great period. The ETC did get the sportier FE3 suspension though, so it will handle better than the base car. The ETC also got StabiliTrac, just in case you get too carried away. It won't hang with stuff like Miatas in a curve, but for a 3900 lb car they do quite well, I think. The ETC will pull on an ESC in acceleration because of the gearing. ETC= better low end, ESC= better top end (higher final drive ratio).

  • as in rarer ESC you mean cheaper model with 5 more lb-ft torque but 25 less hp compared to the 300 ETC, not to mention the ESC has softer suspension compared to the touring coupe.

  • you are a douche bag. You can't compare a eldorado to a crown vic, they're 2 different types of cars. The eldorado is more comparable to the Lincoln Mark VIII series, which has a very similar engine.

  • haha agreed

  • your grand marquis probably dosent even shift outa park

  • How reliable are these cars? I've seen a 2000 model with 80k miles for only 5K. It did have 4 previous owners though.

  • I've not had any problems with mine. 16,000 miles in 11 months and nothing more than normal maintenance.

  • austin99etc - Also, some of the 1999 Eldorado's have a recall for a condition where the assembly line computer drilled the cylinder head bolt holes a little too deep into the engine block, which allows the cylinder head bolts to work loose, which causes the head gaskets to fail. It's called the, "Cylinder Head Counterbore Campaign", and if your engine is one of the engines with this problem, Cadillac will fix it for free. If you give me your VIN# I can look to see if your car is on the list.

  • austin99etc - How's the oil consumption? Does the car have the typical oil leaks?

  • The head gaskets are prone to failing and cost big bucks to repair, like $3,200. The MacPherson struts are about $800 each, just for the struts. Nice car, (I own one), but nothing's perfect.

  • I know there are head gasket issues with these engines. The most prone year seemed to be '97. The general consensus is that if you haven't had problems by 100K you're most likely not going to, though that's no guarantee. Mine is about to roll over to 116K and still running strong.

  • The more mileage that accumulates, the more opportunity the steel cylinder head bolts have to pull out of the aluminum block and allow the head gaskets to blow. This is a well known issue with this engine. Mine let go at 143 and Cadillac wont stand behind the defective design!

  • Nice video austin, I have a 98 Eldo ETC that's stock, good running condition but yours seems to be significantly faster. The only thing I can think of is that mine is a California Eldorado meaning they possibly added more smog protection / more restrictive catalytic converter

  • Thanks. I guess that it's possible that being a Cali car could make a difference. I think mine was bought new in TN. I've surprised a couple of people in it, lol.

  • I won't EVER own any other car, the eldorado is a bad machine! it's terrible gm quit producing them.

  • Yeah. I love mine. One of the few new cars I would consider giving it up for would be a new CTS. I can't afford one so I don't have to worry about it.

  • To be honest I'd prefer my Eldo over a stock, base CTS. If we're talking CTS-V thats a whole different story lol. Currently I think the STS-V is one of the best buys out right now... you can find low mileage used ones for $26k. That's crazy cheap for a 469hp car.

  • Yeah. I'd love to have a CTS-V. I would settle for for one with the 3.6 DI and a 6 speed manual. I just love the styling of that car. I think Cadillac nailed the styling on them. I got to drive a DI model here a while back and was a little impressed with the car. It performed comparable to the Eldo but handled better. I don't think I could justify $48K for the LOADED one that I drove.

  • wardaddy08 - What year is your Eldorado?

  • Ive had 3. 88, 93 ,thats when they put the northstar engine in. and now i own a 06. just an awesome machine

  • SHIT!!!!! I WANT THIS MOTHERFUCKER!!!

Is it expensive to import this kind of car to Sweden?

  • That's something I'm not sure of. You would just have to check with a shipping company and see what the freight charge would be from the states. If you find a nice one that has been taken care of you will love it.

  • Man I saw one yesterday here in my city through the rear mirror when I was riding with a friend, and I was like "what the fuck?!?! its so fucking wide! its so got damn low! its so fucking gangsta! and it got angeleyes!?!?!? Is that a...? HELL MOTHAFUCKING YEAH!!! Thats a caddy!!" and I fell in love in a millisecond. and it had fucking angeleyes man it looked so fucking good you cant imagine...

  • If it had the angeleye headlight conversion it had to have been an STS. The lights are from a BMW. The Sevilles have a little different headlight set up than the Eldorado. They do look wild as hell with them though. I love my Eldo just the way she sits. If you watch my other vids I have on here, there's one of the full outside of the car. The difference between an Eldo and Seville is the Seville is 4 door.

  • Yeah youre right. I googled "angeleyes for caddy eldorado" but all I could find was homemade angeleyes, couldnt find any originals. Its nice though...

  • Ah. Okay. Well let me know if you're able to get one over there. The NorthStar is a killer engine. In the ETC it's 300 hp and sounds great.

  • aight man, will do...

  • austin99etc - The engine is very prone to blowing cylinder head gaskets. The engine is an all aluminum engine with steel cylinder head bolts threading into an aluminum block. The result is the steel bolts pull out of the aluminum block, reducing clamping force on the cylinder head gaskets until eventually the gaskets blow. The repair is installing time-certs into the block, (steel inserts), and is a $3,200 repair.

  • I also have a 97' eldo etc I got it back in 2001 and just cant bring myself to sell it! it runs great and sits in my garage for the winter! I love the looks of the eldo and the sound of the engine! a true future classic!

  • Yeah. I love mine. If I ever mess around and get rid of it I'll regret it for a long time to come. Just bought a 91 Prelude as a project car to save some miles on the caddy. Now if I can just get the thing running lol.

  • man i just love the sound of a northstar V8 but they should make something bigger than a 4.6 i think. do they even make northstar engines anymore for the new caddys?

  • Yeah, they still make the N*. The DTS, XLR, and SRX still use it. The new ones make 320 HP and don't get as good of mileage as mine for some reason.

  • they are now 4.4L instead of 4.6 and they are also VVT (variable valve timing) now as well.

  • The regular Northstar is still a 4.6. The STS-V and the XLR-V have a supercharged Northstar that is 4.4L. With the supercharger they had to decrease the bore to lower the compression ration to handle the boost.

  • ahh, i read somewhere they did away with the 4.6...guess i should have researched that some. i was thinking about trying to drop that supercharged 4.4 in my 97 eldo etc but i think that would be more money and trouble than its worth.

  • That would be cool but it would be a pain. With all the extra power and torque it would wreak all kinds of havoc without upgrading the trans and axles. Then having to upgrade the computer to run it... Tons of time and money.

  • Yea the Eldo is pretty quick. I would know cuz I had a 97 Eldo Etc and that car performed abouth the same as yours. People do underestimate these cars but you get your respect when you go out and kill them Stang GT's. I miss my Eldo, it got destroyed in an accident and I now drive and 02 seville sls. Not as much punch as my eldo buts its a caddy.

  • i'm now looking at these cars because of you. do they have any problems with them?

  • I feel influential now. The only thing that I know of is I have been told that the head gaskets are an occasional problem on the Northstar. Other than that the cars are damn near bulletproof as far as I know. Just keep them serviced. The Northstars use about a quart of oil between changes. Even the brand new one's do it.

  • their very reliable, Ive had mines for 3 years now, Ive put 50k miles on it and the only thing Ive had to replace is the speed sensor, awesome car.

  • Ive got a 97 ETC and mine had the waterpump fail at 90k (common), and the 93-97's did have headgasket issues but normally, if they havent failed by 60k, the most likely wont. (they had a recall for this) Mine has 124k miles, i purchased it when it had 65k on it, and it has seen hundreds of races and the trans is just now starting to give me issues, not an issue with the engine yet other than normal maintenance. GREAT cars, but when something does go wrong, its not cheap.

  • I have a 1996 eldo and man does that thing have pickup. its also 100% stock (mechanically that is) i just got it reupholstered. if you get one, you will fall in love with it, gaurenteed

  • Now I wish I hadn't traded mine for an 04' MINI...almost ^^

  • not bad at all! im thinking more like 5.9-6.2 0-60. People underestimate those cars.

  • o,o did u get pulled over? I noticed the turn signal hehehe, we are buying a cadillac EXACLY like this one today, but its black mettalic exterior and leather black int

  • No, wasn't pulled over. I was out on a back road where I knew it was safe. The black on black looks good on them. It'll show dirt like crazy though. My red does.

  • that thing fuckn MOVES

    nice.
