There may be a supernatural realm and god or gods (the truth is nobody knows). However, the god of "holy" scripture is clearly a fantasy. Prayers don't work the "holy" books are scientifically and historically inaccurate and self contradictory. Most importantly there are other (exclusive) religions, this shows religion is a human construct.
I'm a Roman Catholic, and I find it quite extraordinary that Australia has an atheist Prime Minister. I'm pleased by that. This is a major first, a first that doesn't affect her politics, just as I make sure my catholicism doesn't affect mine to the extent that all my political views must coincide with Church teachings. My sister, brother and Father are atheists and I'm proud that Gillard doesn't shy away from defending her beliefs just like them

BB theory states the energy within the universe always existed within a singularity, and all the matter we see within the modern universe is merely a wider distribution of this energy as the universe expands. Just because all the factors that involved the BB aren't known, doesn't mean BB theory states the universe came "from nothing". That's like claiming an unsolved murder was caused by nobody because there isn't a definite suspect. Science doesn't try to shove poor explanations into every gap of knowledge. We're comfortable that there are some things which we don't know yet which we'll discover. Christianity just shoves a Judaic wizard in all the gaps and shouts "GOD DID IT!"

I think its great that our prime minister is an atheist, and give her credit for being so open about her beliefs. Just because all the factors that involved the BB aren't known, doesn't mean BB theory states the universe came "from nothing". That's like claiming an unsolved murder was caused by nobody because there isn't a definite suspect. Science doesn't try to shove poor explanations into every gap of knowledge. We're comfortable that there are some things which we don't know yet which we'll discover. Christianity just shoves a Judaic wizard in all the gaps and shouts "GOD DID IT!"

Chimpanzees are our closest living relatives and we both evolved from an extinct species of ape around 5-6 million years ago. Chimpanzees use tools and can not only learn sign language but have been seen to teach sign language to chimps that do not yet know it.

@ChristJesusReigns That extinct species was an ape, even we humans are. But it wasn't an ape-ape, if you know what I mean (a modern day ape living among us like the chimps and such). It wasn't an ape-like creature (modern day ape), nor human, but it still was an extinct type of ape.
In short, it wasn't a modern day ape/human, it was an extinct "ape". The ape is our grandfather, the chimps are our cousins. We came from that ONE lineage and we diverged (like a family tree).

The quote "I don't believe in anything" is the most childish philosophy on the planet. Because EVERYONE believes in SOMETHING. By your logic the word believe shouldn't even be in the dictionary. You should petition to have it eliminated. I hear the excuse "I don't believe in anything" from atheists all the time, and frankly it is pathetic. You BELIEVE that Darwin's tale of world history is true. You BELIEVE that you evolved from an ape-like creature, you BELIEVE in this nonsense.

You haven't SEEN these things occur but you BELIEVE they did occur. You BELIEVE that Darwin's ridiculous theories are true. You have not SEEN his timeline of world history unfold. You have not SEEN a human "Evolve" from a primitive species over "millions of years", but you BELIEVE it happened. And I already know that because of your pride you will use every excuse in the book to try to say you don't believe in this, but it IS a belief, no matter how much you try to twist it.
