  • BTW, nice video. I prefer a wood burning stove over a fuel that I have to carry in? I have a gas stove so I like flame but nit so sure about alcohol or heet...

  • @sassylassy01 Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

  • I want to see a hamburger cooked on this. Anybody have an idea of where to purchase cookware that would fit the hobo stove?

  • Put a Lid On it!... No really a lid would hold in the heat and let it cook faster

  • @Metqa hanks I think that would help.

  • @notseymour more side holes on the bottom.

  • @notseymour Thank you.

  • Good stuff buddy, been doing the same thing with empty soup cans and soda cans myself!

  • @WyomingJoshuaAK47 Thank you it was a lot of fun I still have it I should get it out and use it again.

  • That looks great!! Yum!

  • @Savemyplant It was tasty and making the hobo stove was a lot of fun too.

  • @SurvivalGuideSkill Yes I'm sure it would be.

  • How very simple! That soup looked to be very yummy!

  • @TheCajuntransplant It was a fun thing to try and the soup was good like most things cooked outdoors.

  • i personally would have used some kind of ground up tomato paste or cheated and used the can stuff as the base for my soup instead of water, but really now if SHTF there wont be cans of it at your local store most likely.....

  • @Taud That would have made an interesting soup but I was juts interested in seeing if the hobo stove works. I'm no a survivalist waiting for all of the doom and gloom I just like toys hobo stove, solar over etc. Thanks for stopping by.

  • @dalecalder2003 Oh for sure im not into the whole 2012 conspiracy either, i just like the thought of those situations, i suppose i watch too much SAS stories and Man vs Wild on tv..... LOL

    Thanks for posting

  • I like your theory of food cooked on a hobo fire tastes good:I agree and that soup looks really good:vegetarian and good for you as well as making my mouth water!

Looks like an economical and fun way to cook too. Thanks for the vid.

  • @tukspeacepipes Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • I liked it a lot:the opening at the side is so simple;yet so effective for the air:thus reducing the smoke.

The kindling is relatively easy to start(I use slightly more matches!!) and the cooking is great.Nice to see that one can make a good vegetarian soup..I like the kale inclusion. Thanks again.

  • @tukspeacepipes I haven't used it since last summer I must dust it offf and use it again as soon as there are fresh vegetables in the garden.

  • That looked like great fun! The soup looked fantastic. What a great way to spend the evening. You play with the coolest toys. I SO need a coffee can and a picklemeister too!

  • @JaxRL Thanks it was great fun I must get it out again some day. The picklemeisters are very good I plan to buy two more this summer if the garden is successful.

  • Good jub on the stove, it came out good.

Also, that soup looks SOOOO good!

  • @TubeDude241 Thank you.

  • Nice stove . Its amazing how fast it is to boil that water with just a few twigs of wood, WOW ! Do you still use it much ? I looked for the the golden mix you added to the soup online with no luck . Is the golden mix made specifically as a soup mix for the type of soup you made ?

  • @2bears4321hank you. I still have the stove an will likely play with it again next summer. I buy the golden mix in a bulk food store where you scoop your own out of bins. I think it is meant to be a side dish but I like to add it to soups.

  • Never heard of these before. Out of interest, how long would one last for - 1 month, 2 months? Think these would be a good idea for distribution in areas where there have been natural disasters - easier and cheaper to use than gas stoves.

  • @ivankinsman I should think it would last at least that long and it produces a lot of heat, only burning twigs and dead branches.

  • What fun. Now you're ready to ride the rails. Soup looked really good which you confirmed at the end.

  • @OBSysteme It was a lot of fun just like being a kid again.lol

  • Wow the soup boiled! Pretty great! You know with a cover on your pot it should boil even faster.

  • @jihadacadien I don't think I have a cover that would fit it, good idea though. I was amazed at how fast it boiled and I had it fired up for well over an hour on just a few old dead branches.

  • @dalecalder2003 I really thing I'm making one this afternoon! I'm gonna be making a video so I might as well try this too....oh! I have to charge my camera before that! =S

  • @jihadacadien Speaking of Cameras I finally have given up on my Kodak digital camera and ordered a Canon G11 should arrive later this week.

  • @dalecalder2003 LOL! I really need to post some of my pictures on flickr!!! I'll do it now instead of just saying it!

  • Excellent job making and using the hobo Bro! A few suggestions..

#1 - As you look at the vent holes.. I would make one or 2 more on the left side so they are evenly around the front.

#2 Turn your stove so the vent holes face directly into the wind for maximum burn when you have your pot on top.

    Terrific work! Very well done!

  • @BushcraftOnFire

Looking at the video again.. I obviously meant more holes on the Right (not the left) as you look at the vents. You'd make a GREAT Hobo.. LOL.. that soup looked delicious!

  • @BushcraftOnFire Soup was very good fish chowder or fried fish will be next. I think I have a small cast iron pan that would be just the right size for the stove.

  • @BushcraftOnFire Thanks I will do that before I use it again.

  • Oh this is great!!! Hobo stove!!!! Reminds me of my hobo days! ;) seriously I'm trying this too!

  • @jihadacadien It was lots of fun, I'll look forward to your hobo video. lol

  • Wow Dale that looks really good!! Amelia would love to do that, maybe we will give it a try sometime.

  • @DCARA06 She could be the littlest Hobo.

  • Sure was easy to make and in only a few minutes. I'm amazed at how fast it boiled water.

  • That is pretty cool. Now you have me wanting to experiment with stoves like that too.
