  • Joe Williams foi e sempre será para mim o maior jazz singer do mundo!

  • it's butch miles on drums

  • Love Joe!,

Btw, that's Ed Shaughnessy on drums....

  • reminds me of little big planet ....

  • eita pesti..................

  • Don't know which version of this song I like better, The Count's or B.B King's...they're both great!!!!

  • Great performance...wish I had been there, too.

If you haven't heard this LP, you might give it a try.."Count Basie Swings and Joe Williams Sings". I may have swapped reversed the title. It's terrific!

  • is that freddie green on guitar? o.O

  • @jakedeving Yes, that's the great Freddie Green!!

  • Whoever gave this a thumbs down is a terrible person.

  • Un recuerdo para el gran Count. La mejor banda de todas!

  • Sloppy lead trumpet playing. It's like the guy never listened to Snooky... Bullshit screeching at the end.

  • Sloppy lead trumpet playing. It's like the guy never listened to Snooky...

  • A real treat joe & count were both right on the mark

  • Viva BASIE que orquestra maravilhosa....LIN BIVIANO apita muito

  • LOVE BASIE LOVE WILLIAMS LOVE BUTCH MILES

    this is rockin!

  • Please will the one person who voted thumbs-down for this identify themselves?!.......

  • sing it, wesley!!!

  • Lin sounds horrible. Snooky, Porcino, Gozzo, those are the standards set and lin ruined it.

  • this is real jazz music!!! wow

  • John Clayton on bass??? 1:54

  • Joe Williams resembles Wesley Snipes to me, at least teeth-wise.

  • thank you, every time i see snipes i say he reminds me of somene.there you go

  • haha, gotta love the solo tenor "things ain't what they used to be" quote.

  • Man, Butch always looks like he's the happiest man in the world sitting up there groovin!

  • I just love it !!!!

  • Even if he's out of line, Enlitened does have a point. Basie did fire Lin for taking two many liberties.

  • Enlitened,

    Shut Up!

  • freddie fgreen is amazing

  • Enlightened what is your problem with Lin. You don't get it. Or did he tell you your playing sucked?

  • Thank you for this video. This is great music. No big bands like this nowadays.

  • Pat Hession and Lin should get together, have some kind of DandD party and discuss lead player styles. See which one of them can become more offensive and tasteless.

  • So the style is playing inconsistent, not cutting off with the rest of the trumpet section, playing out of tune, retarded vibrato, doing 4th or 5th lip trills when the rest of the band isn't wider than a second, and the almighty lead player style of going for , and missing said high note at the end of the tune.

  • Waymon Reed in the trumpet section.

  • did he say bad fucking trouble??

  • no, he said, "bad luck and trouble," hehehe, sounds like that, though!

  • Thanks. Thats really accurate.

  • Outstanding!

    Thank you!

    Christopher Woodcock

  • what song is this?

  • Everyday I Have The Blues

Joe Williams with Count Basie Orchestra

    1955 single on Clef Records

    Written by "Memphis Slim"

    (John Chatman, b.9/3/15 - Memphis,TN, d.2/24/88 - Paris,FR.)

    BMI Info:

EVERYDAY (Legal Title) BMI Work #390863

  • Just listened again, Lin Biviano sounds terrible. Unnecessary trills shakes and spills, and a Parkinson style vibrato is utterly retarded.

  • What? Lin sounds great. Have you listened to other recordings of this song? It's the style.

  • Joe Williams ! la voix ,et quelle voix !

  • Ya Lin sounds terrible. I don't understand his career....

  • does he say "bad fucking troubles." ??

  • Nope. He says "bad luck and troubles".

  • Love Joe Williams and Freddie Green aka Father time on guitar....RIP guys

  • ...and Fred Wesley on trombone ;)

  • It's always a pleasure to see and hear Butch Miles on the drums...

  • lovelovelove this. jazz is my world.

  • count bassie seems to know what he is doing!amazing!

  • Great song Joe Williams great. Listen to Maynard Ferguson version...just off the hook

  • shit, lin is amazing. When I grow up, I wanna play lead trumpet like him.

  • I wouldn't... this stuff is wayyyy too lead heavy.

  • No such thing on this tune, man.

  • Uh, yeah there is- when you can't hear any of the harmonies.

  • Its blues dude. Its supposed to be heavy...

  • Just on lead? Usually, I would like it, but he's the only trumpet you can hear for most of this. It's about the section, not the player.

  • I know what your saying now. I took it wrong. My bad.

  • No problem, at least you get it!

    Thanks.

  • The other thing to consider is the venue and acoustics. When this was recorded I doubt that speaker systems were as sophistocated. If the musicians could not hear each other well because of the acoustics that could impact how loud they play.

  • That's the listeners fault. If you can't hear the harmony, it has nothing to do with Lin.

  • Totally. If someone is blowing over the rest of the trumpets, it's my fault that they aren't clear as day. Why isn't this topic resolved?

  • Nothing is ever the listener's fault. It's the listeners that sign our checks, in the end, not other musicians. If the overwhelming majority of people don't like it, there's something wrong with it. It doesn't matter if it's theatrically or stylistically correct if the audience doesn't care for it. Music, especially Jazz, is for the everyman, not the elitist. (Not saying you're elitist, I fully and 100% respect you and you're opinion, I just like a good clean debate.) :)

  • It's good to see Butch Miles on the skins...

  • I met the Count in Gloversville New York after a concert in a High school auditorium. I got to shake his hand...I'll never forget it. It was the softest hand I've ever shook to this day. I was in awe.

  • i have to admit...i dont think lin biviano was right for the basie band lol

  • anyone know whose on bari at 1.00?

  • Charlie Fowlkes

  • Lin Biviano is one of the best lead trumpeters ever. Show the man some fuckin respect.

  • yeah, he is...but there's no denying he wasnt meant for the basie band

  • the reason i love this band is becasue of how chill all of the performers look when theyre absolutely ripping.

    its great.

    btw-

    where is philly joe jones?

and is that benny carter playing lead alto?

  • Bobby Plater on lead alto.

  • tell that lead trumpet to shut the fuck up.

  • IT JUST GET ANY BETTER. 'O' YA

  • INcomparable

  • can anyone tell us who wrote the music and the lyrics for every day i get the blues?

  • pretty sure twas memphis slim, the hardcore bluesman himself

  • Lin Biviano is a bull!

  • JW Rocks!

  • Simply great! Thanks a lot!

  • I love the sound of Joe Williams voice there is none like it. Great Video, thanks for sharing this video.

  • I had the privilege of seeing him live with George Shearing, what a voice, what a performer.

Regrettably, I don't think we'll see the likes of him ever again; I miss him greatly.

  • Joe Williams is the best sing in world.

  • Actually it was 1978

  • Where did you get this video? I remember being at this in the early 80s. I am sitting right center in the tan jacket at the very beginning.

  • Hey, man. Thanks for the note. I taped this off the air when it first broadcast on PBS, I believe... It was part of a big band special. Anyhow, good to hear from you -- how was that sandwich?...

  • love Basie's accompaniment. the band it tight. And Joe is just too cool.
