Marneus, is you can find the gauge measurement of the wiring, most electronic hobby shops SHOULD sell rolls of it. my guess will be somewhere between 14 and 20 gauge.
I would recommend not using 2 resistors unless it's the exact value needed to properly drive the LED's and still produce maximum battery life, both of which can occur with the use of Ohms Law. Drop me a line if you need any help, I'm a bit of a Tech/Engineer by trade and would love to assist the Wargames Community :)
You can get LED Wire in many thicknesses and lengths. More commonly referred to as Wire.I would go with spool of 22AWG, they're sold in the US all over, just about any Radio Shack will have some. I highly recommend braided/stranded and not solid wire, as solid can break if not stripped correctly.Breaks will cause intermittent lighting issues after your done with the build. Good Luck mate!
micromart will sell you all that stuff Cheap and they ship to the UK and on some its Free shipping..also just a idea for you if your trying to save on space you can always use some button cell battery ( the ones that go in wrist watch )as they are cheap save on space and you can get some in rechargeable and they will power L.E.D's if need be I will do a Video for you...take care buddy.
Telephone cable wire according to guys at Maplin works just as well and a hell of a lot cheaper. Nip into your local Maplin and they will advise you in there.
If you keep the wire to battery connecter on the battery it won t short out, unles you touch the wires togethers.

Longer lengths? Buy a spool or a roll of cat5/ethernet cable, it will last you forever. iirc it has got 8 strands. Cut to desired length.
Should work fine, I've cut apart various old phone, usb and ethernet cables to use for wiring things.
