  • Nice job! I have the 000-16 SGT too and love it for stuff like this. Parlor guitars and fingerpicking blues go together like Frankie & Jonny. Keep doing what you do and forget the haters - not one in a hundred of them have a video showing they could do better. Most of them live in their parent's basements and post cynical comments to make themselves feel better, and are trying in vain to make up for all the hugs and words of encouragement they missed out on as children.

  • be my wife!

  • its missing the john hurt driving base and thumpig rhythm. Pick up the speed a little too.

  • @venusinfursdublin STFU for gods sake...Did she ASK you anything?

  • @rastablues1 thats what the 'comments' facility is for. If she doesn't want people commenting then she can turn it off!!

  • @venusinfursdublin I went to your "channel" ....where are your guitar videos? Saving them up for a special occasion? This very skilled player has twenty (20) videos.....Go lay down or something.

  • your beautiful!

  • where do you play, where do you go?

  • wow cool i learned this in open G, ....one thing i love about john is that you can play almost anything by him in open G, and in this one you can play it in standard and it is still pretty close to the original,... cheers again

  • just great. i love the pause of remembering the lyrics.

  • PS would love to hear your rendition of some numbers by Furry Lewis and Sam Lightnin' Hopkins, especially "My California" (if you can ever get you hands on it) from his 1958 LP "Lightnin Hopkins Strums the Blues"

  • different hair, same great talent

  • beautifull hair :-)

  • hhhhheeeyyy haircut!!! You continues the great player and singer!!! Go on!!

  • Excellent. I'm just starting to learn my first MJH song. I hope one day, I'll be able to play them as well as you. Nice job.

  • i'm sold on the feelings in the expressions of your face

  • this is exactly what i wanted to hear. beautiful playin. beautiful guitar

  • very good! muy bien la guitarra y la voz Bravo!

  • I came across your clips for the first time today while researching the great Skip James and now have listened to a bunch of your music. Wow. You're a terrific player, clearly with a real understanding of those great old players, excellent left and right hands, and even more importantly, great FEELING for this no-longer-quite-so-lost body of music. It's great to hear someone other than my crotchety old buddies and me showing love for it. Keep on truckin.

  • @RADNOR18938 well put.

  • Nice job, Christine. Crow Jane is still my favorite performance by you. I noticed you are playing a Martin 000-16SGT. I've got the same guitar, too. Not sure if you have already done this, but I replaced the original Tusq saddle with a bone saddle and also replaced the Micarta nut with a bone nut. My guitar has really opened up with those two changes--have a listen to my rendition of That's All Right.

  • your a great guitarist and vocalist and you have great taste.

  • Any chance of you posting your version of Casey Jones, I would love to hear it? (fingers crossed)

  • Your playing and singing is always humbling and inspiring.

  • Love the break @ 3:30 ! Awesome !

  • wd for getting the riff in standard. hard enough to play @ speed in G. you sing it well too.

  • loved it, ;) you're very good! Roberto

  • wow...awesome!

  • i m your fan

  • I would love it if you posted some tutorials on how to play some john hurt songs. All I can play is stack o lee and I must learn more lol

  • i hear a little bit of robert wilkins in this piece, around the turnaround. you a big wilkins fan? shows in your playing at least... lol

  • finally a smile ...you're cracking....

  • Love it! Thanks.

    DD

  • sorry, just out of interest - the guitar sounds like its plugged in but i guess its some awesome mic? if you have time to answer at all :D which kind of mic is it?

  • @JimiChristopher The guitar was not plugged in. The mic was a Sennheiser ew 100 g3 (a wireless lapel mic) plugged into a Nikon D300s with a 14mm aspheric lens. Not so much a choice, it was the equipment that happened to be around at the moment.

  • @fallfrukt Aha Cheers! that explains the upclose sound .. sounds good anyway .. clear and precise enough all that matters. my video camera mic makes it sound like i'm down the road somewhere.

  • I concur..... Wonderful!

Nice to catch another rare glimpse of your smile too.

P.S. Have you given up on the banjo?

  • Another beautiful blues rendition :D

  • Great recording, Christine, - top playing and top singing - record wherever you like, wear whatever you like--chew whatever you like while doing it -- it will still sound great - that's the important bit, with all due respect to other contributors! Its the Blues- whoever heard of such "rules" in Blues? Particularly in reference to a talent such as yourself. Thanks for posting.

  • Did you actually come out and say you didn't know it was originally done in open G? How utterly refreshing. Besides, fellow artists know it was harder to do in standard tuning and make it SOUND like it's in open G. Helluva job. And finally, who cares what tuning a song "should be " in; to judge from this and your other vids you're so clearly your own person anyway, there's no risk of you slavishly imitating the old masters.

  • did you get sick ? you all right? you look like you spent alot o money and somebody realized you aint got it hmm I'll send ya some soups if you want little darlin get well soon

  • did you get sick ? you all right? you look like you spent alot o money and somebody realized you aint got it hmm I'll send ya some soups if you want little darlin

  • did you get sick ? you all right?

  • Really good rendition. The 1928 mjh version rolls in such an incredible way. And you got that going well.

  • Great job! It never occurred to me to try playing this in standard tuning.

  • Keep up the good work. It's really nice.

  • Thanks, I have a new favorite of yours.

  • Another great one Chris, favourited. I like the dramatic pause ... was worried for a moment, but nothing stops you picking guitar!

  • Nice work...My daughter and I (both players) love your stuff..May I ask, how do you learn your songs?

    Best to you.

  • awesome love to see you live

  • I love how well you play this is standard -- I am w/ others who play this in Spanish tuning. Testament to your chops you made it sound so good where it is.

  • Awesome. I do this in open-G, but your arrangement sounds better.

  • So, you're talking DGCFAD? Nice work. Totally enjoyed.

  • You never disappoint - truly amazing (even the added "pause" fit well!) - really hope you play the Albany area sometime!! :{D

  • You are knocking my socks off! Terrific singing, beautiful playing, too!!

  • Love it !

  • Excellent Christine. Excellent, excellent. You need to get in the studio and make professional recordings. Let's talk. Stage presence: Don't chew gum when you sing young lady. Pajamas!? Well, OK, endearing. Not sure what Memphis Minnie would have thought. Speaking of Minnie, please record some of her songs.

  • Her majesty Christine is back !

  • Awesome pickin ...great vocal work ... !!

  • Bravo Just love it.

  • briliant!! & your hair is cool xx

  • Love the short hair, love the martin .... a big fan of your attitude,,

  • Great picking! I am pretty sure MJH played it out of open G tuning. Your way works just fine, too. I hope you get to read the new MJH biography.

  • This one caused the same dopey grinning euphoria that all your tunes do, but had an extra bonus--that gap, which is one of the best pauses ever. Even your silence sounds good!

I say again, you are truly gifted, and I have set aside money for your CD.

  • your so cool ;D

  • love your music

  • That is some damn fine playing & singing, breathing new life into an old classic song.

    Beautiful Guitar.

    Cheers

  • Beautiful guitar playing its incredible and beautiful tone. Nice vocals and thank you I like people that do things their way and not conform to others ideals. Better than MJH dare I say?

  • Christine,

You are waaaayyy better than a lot of the popular performers out there today....keep it up, girl....you have got SOME terrific talent....

  • Sounds great in standard!

  • Lovely. I'd pay you to play for me...fortunately, Youtube is free because I'm perpetually broke. Feel free to base a blues tune around this comment.

  • Love the sound of that guitar ,, nice pickin ,, well played , good cover ,, cheers ,, dave :))

  • Great to have you back

  • versione perfetta: sia la voce...sia la chitarra.....(bellissima)!

    claudio

  • Great song choice as usual, great performance as usual! thank you

  • @nicecoolbuddy votre mère

  • @IplayBanjoNow in liverpool we say 'yer ma'

  • wonderful stuff, outstandig performance (love that little break!) .... great pleasure!

    Thanks a lot,

    Lena :))

  • You have mastered thumb independance, which I read can take up to ten years if at all. Your left hand I find fascinatingly articulate, think you have very long fingers.

Your playing always seems to have a mellow sound which I like, probably because you are skin picking. I had to turn the bass off and treble full on, but I wish your voice was louder in relation to the guitar here. But very nice all the same

  • Like thanks for continued insparation to pick up me guitar !

  • Very nice. I don't think I've heard it in standard tuning before. Have you heard Paul Geremia's version?

  • Good stuff!

    ...Bill

  • I thought I was the only person to awake with a guitar. You are great. Thanks for VID

  • Lovin it!!!

  • I recently learned frankie straight out of a tab book. Your version is great, I was rapt watching this.

  • Good work! Who are the savages? <}:-)

  • Great performance btw! KUTGW!

  • What are you chewing on?

  • @TheBluesBobby apple Zotz hard candy.

  • @IplayBanjoNow haha, let's say: an apple a day, makes your playing OK!

  • @IplayBanjoNow lemon zotz are the best

  • I can't stop playing this. Well done.

  • Fantastic guitar-playing and singing! Nice performance! A green thumb up in the air - of course!

    Viveca

  • Way cool

  • good job!

  • you are exquisite. can't get enough.

  • Very nice! I like how you call people who ask for tabs "savages."

  • great performance. by "around d" do u mean open d or drop d?

  • @mafew129 Shoulda been more clear about that. It's neither. It's still in a standard tuning pattern; just down tuned.

  • @IplayBanjoNow oh nice. i also like how you froze at the end and forgot the lyrics for a bit. I find myself doing that all the time lol. Its all good though b/c you got it going again.

  • It's been a long time. You shouldn't have left us, without a dope beat last us.

  • I think I love you. :)

  • Wonderful as always!

  • @SALVATl0N Thank you! It's much appreciated.

  • Sounds great! You look so pensive. Love the guitar pickin'. Thanks for posting it.

  • @mrdavet99 Thank you kindly! It's really a fun song to play.
