there were only 12 made since they had been constructed with leftover parts from the V Project and they were only used in the later parts of the war once the war was over they went back to being spare parts for research and development since that's were they came from anyway

About 20 RX-79[G]s were made and12 were assigned to Kojima Battalion. We don't know if the Blue Destiny series were counted within the 20 or were 3 special units built from scratch.

thanks for correcting me, I had forgot that there were 20, my mind just jumped to the 12 that were with the Kojima forces, actually the Blue Destiny line wasn't included in the RX 79G series they were special prototype productions but they were inspired by the design of the ground forces' GMs and Gundams

The Alex isn't the RX-78-4. A mecha designer came along and spruced up the -4 model in order to create the Alex. It's based on number 4, but they are not the same machine.

The same goes for the two Gundams aboard the "Thoroughbred." They're based on -5 and -6, but aren't actually -5 and -6.

It's a common misconception.

I believe that there were originally three RX-78-2s deployed to Side 7, but two of them were destroyed, only Amuro's RX-78-2 surviving. Then the wrecks of the two RX-78-2 units were made into the development model the RX-78-3 "G3" Gundam. Could that be the confusion between the number of untis? That two became one? And the Alex IS the RX-78-4.

well that's cool, they introduce the first Gundam, and plan to make a stripped down mass production model called the GM w/ out the self learning computer and a lower grade of metal (titanium) instead of Gundarium Alloy,then after the one year war they mass produce the Gundam and its abilities which appoints to the eventual special forces called the 08th Team

IIRC Ford's G05 got the small upgrade and finished the war successfully. There was a seventh Gundam in the process of being built and the Alex turns out is hinted at being made from the remains of the G04 frame. Oh and the Full Armor Gundam FA (2) is apparently also a separate unit making that a total of 7 finished, 1 refurbished, 1 unfinished.

correct me if I am wrong, but at the side 7 research base there was a total of 9 MS for white base. 3 guntank, 3 guncannon, and 3 gundam. 2 out of the 3 gundam were damaged and their parts were store on white base and was dropped off at jaburo to form the RX-78-3.

RX-78-1 never saw action.

Jaburo managed to produce another RX-78 (RX-78-3) which was a testbed for the Magnetic Coating treatment.

RX-78-6 fought in the battle for California Base (which happened AFTER White Base went back to space) [seen in the game Zeonic Front]

RX-78-4 and RX-78-5 were attached the Throughbred [seen in the side story 'From beyond the Blaze']
