i want sheep as lawn mowers.... wild sheep and less gas wasting and then u get free lawn mown, sheep shit fertilizer, and mutton dinner out of the deal.
@normalguyable Yep cause that's what sheep Shears do, NOTHING to do with keeping the animals cool in the boiling hot summer, or protecting them from maggots and other gross bugs living in their wool.
i think.... i want a sheep. not sure im zoned for that though. no wait, i know im not zoned for that and its so hot that the sheep would probably overheat so i'll have to admire from the tube. =(
@RobertRyanRanch they probably wouldnt let me have one anyway because i live in the city and my backyard is barely big enough for a dog...thanks though.
@rhymepays LMAO...actually sheep get relaxed in that position, ........ ive seen it happen with my own eyes trust me!! ALSO sheep can't walk if they dont see the floor, theyre kinda dumb but adorable...so don't worry he/she is fine!
I have pet sheep called Rachel,Mint,Annemarie,Rose,Vicky,Feebee,Susan,Lena and Ellie and I give them a cuddle and I have sheared them before and they are good girls Rachel is very she unzip pockets when I have food in them.thank you for the commet sheep are very cute that was good girl
I sheared sheep in NJ as a side job in the 70's and 80's. I saw poorly managed sheep, with tails...and maggots.... I also saw awesome sheepherders in Somerset, Hunterdon, and all over NJ. I wish I kept pictures of some of those great people and places....Every year I would go back and shear their sheep...I still ahve my tools... they are worth gold to me....plus all those sharpened blades, ready to go!
go be like a carnivore and take your meal down with everything you got, then start munching on it's innards while it's still warm and make sure to save some for your children. Watch out for that icky veggie stuff inside the stomach though. Then nap and wait until the next kill is possible.
I agree with you that we all have a right to eat what we want. However, does the sheep have the right to die happy instead of in a cramped and disgusting pen?
The other thing refered to is mulesing essentially a buttlift, this is done for the same reason as tail docking. Hygeine, if poop gets into the wool which on some breeds grows right to the anus. Well you can imagine, sheep do not have the "anal glands" which more furred animals like cats and dogs have to deal with this issue. Shifting from hay to grass is particularly notorious for gi tract "issues" We have a responsibility to these domesticated animals health hysterical misinfo ain't it.
Stupid peta, ignorant fools. It because of their misinformation I have to go out and rescue sheep who have not been shorn in multiple years, nor had their tails docked for hygeine. A sheep surprizingly enough has no thumbs to wash it's ass. With a long wooly tail getting all full of shit this attracts flies and rots the skin where maggots are then laid. Which is more cruel, death by gangrene and maggot consumption, or the trimming of extraneous tail, a bit like ear peircing or a facelift?
Shearing is never painful for the sheep. So it is not a bad process! As the uppermost part of the skin is dead, shearing is not painful. It is just like shaving the beard!
actually sheep have a reflex that when they're off all fours they'll stay still. shearing takes advantage of that position so they won't get nicked with the blades by moving too much. but they can't stay in that position for too long because they can bloat (very dangerous situation for ruminants like sheep cattle goats etc). that's why a shearer makes every effort to go as fast as possible
One of my good friends is a sheep; she told me one time that she felt honored to have her wool be used to keep people clothed and comfy during winter.
No, it isn't; shearing a sheep is just like shaving a person's hair. In fact, it might be even less invasive than that! :) With a good shearer, even foisting the sheep around doesn't cause them any pain or injury. It should be completely harmless for the sheep. :)
fly's will start to lay maggots in the wool after a while, and it starts to get heavy also. they only get sheared 1 every year or two so the sheep arent in any harm.
sad i know but thats life My wife and I have a really nice thing we have done with the kids, we learned it from a native american friend of ours in the states. Every time we are about to eat ANY animal meat, while we are saying Grace we thank the animal that gave its life to us, so we may be able to eat and be healthy. Our kids are rather small but they understanding this and they ask God to take special care of the animal thats in heaven now. I think its always good to give thanks.
You should thank god for giving you the intelligence and compassion to know that you can easily survive without harming other living beings. This is a gentle way for living beings to coexist with eachother. We don't need to eat the flesh of other animals at this time in evolution.

The sheep is anesthetized. If she wasn't she would be taking off. Why do you think it can't stand?

@rhymepays It is a fact that sitting most sheep on their ass they go into a trance. No anesthetics

the whole nature is like that, wolves, foxes, lions also kill for food.
if we are equal with animals we have the right to be like carnivores. if we are higher beings, we are allowed to use this world.

Shouldn't sheep shearing be considered a crime? I mean, it must be painful for the sheep to lose all that wool.
