i remember this song being on an advert for sky sports in 1990. i loved it, made me borrow all my dads simple minds records and became a huge fan. i love this band.
my wife worked with jim and charlies mums in greggs in toryglen circus between 80-82 two of the best mums about but she hates simple minds but i thing there brilliant
@lazyhorse22 I was very unhappy and I was thinking of killing myself but this song came on the radio and it saved me, can't really say how it just did.
@wyldchyld76 Yeh reckon, Where's old Doc Brown and his De Lorean eh, get me outta here back to the 80s. That movie (Back to The Future, pt 1) came out around the same time this hit started to climb the charts (late 1985).
Went to Simple Minds Concert in November 1986, totally dynamic, especially the drumming, my ears rang for 2 days afterwards.
I agree,I always thought Simple Minds were similar to U2 in sound,no other group in the 80's seemed so similar.Jim Kerr's vocals are very reminiscent of Bono's,and the overall music.Simple Minds were huge in the UK and Europe, too bad they quickly faded from the U.S.I really like "All The Things She Said",my fav!
When I got the 12" of " Theme from Great Cities " I knew then I was a Fan of
Simple Minds until the end. Alive, is one of my favourite songs I would tweak my Sound system @ The Twilight Zone until the highs would make your hairs stand up, and the bass would envelop you remember settings then I was ready for the night !
Thanks to "Simple Minds" and always ...respect to the female singer in this song.
@rikkistalks sadly most people focus on the frontman, perhaps the guitar player... but bass player and drummer are seldom appreciated. In this case, there is a great rhythm section! Great drummer!
fucking awesome music. 80's best music ever made on the planet

Billboard's #17 song of '86. SM hit #2 rock, #3 pop, in the US. How'd they do in the UK? God bless!
DaveWollenberg 1 year ago
The reason this track sounds like it does is not the drummer, but the engineer who mixed this, Bob Clearmountain. The man is an engineer god.
