Even in India Sridevi's popularity is more than Mads, don't forget the south part where till date they swear by her name while Mad can be just like anyother Bolly actress for them. @halimali I respect your opinion but what I said is my perspective, its fine if you don't agree its not possible that everyone likes the same person what I find WOW in Mads you may find that in Sri and thats perfectly ok we cannot have similar choices. What Mads did in prahaar and Pratigya was brilliant for me I don't deny Sri's role in Lamhe or Chandni but somehow I like Mads much more than Sri I don't like the voice modularity and quality of Sri's voice it takes away from her acting abilities

Have you seen Sridevi's movie Suhaagan??? compare Prahaar or Prem Pratigya to that movie and see. and yeah in Suhaagan Sridevi plays the title role
@desidancers Regarding Amitabh thing, Sridevi was the last actress to be said who could hold a movie on her own shoulders, It was always the case with Sridevi until her last movie, even the much delayed "Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahin" she was the star with Akshay being just a support, well even the movie name says it all. You cant say the same about Madhuri because even some of her last movies she didn't have anything great doing in them, an example is Mahaanta.
@desidancers another thing to say someone carries a movie on his or her own shoulder is you should look how is that, Can I say Himmatwala was fully Sridevi's movie?? No I cant say but yea I can say Nagina was a movie Sri had it on her own shoulder. What does Madhuri have on that term? How many movies out of 60+ she acted in them? 10??? then how would you calim that. Madhuri didn't have such roles until the mid of the 90s while Sridevi had them very early in the 80s
@desidancers The success of Nagina, Chandni, Chaalbaaz, Laadla, Gumrah, Judaai can all be almost entirely attributed to Sridevi (even the moderate success of Army). Madhuri's only hit that can be mostly attributed to her is Raja. Otherwise, all her big hits were hero oriented. Look at the names- Beta, KhalNayak, Devdas, RamLakhan- all about men. Nagina, Chandni, Chaalbaaz, and even less successful films like Chandramukhi, Chand ka Tukda, Banjaran- all titled for heroine Sri. Mad never had that.

@kwachuh01 actually madhuri had a string of hits starting from 1990 to 1995 ... these films were dil, saajan, beta, khalnayak, hum aapke hain kaun and raja... however, films like dil, saajan and HAHK were very commercial / average roles and madhuri never really opted for something different...sridevi on the other hand, always took the risks and did adventerous projects e.g. khuda gawah, lamhe, gumrah etc....madhuri's done some different roles as well, but not as much as sridevi

Here Ranjha-dramatic acting-She dies at the end.
Laadla- lady boss, Judai-greedy wife etc etc etc...
Chaalbaaz- Heroine centric comedy movie- became a standard setter when comes to comical act by an actress. In fact performance of actresses like Mad, Juhi, Shilpa, and now Lara were/are compared to Sri's comic timing.And industry still says that Sri has the perfect comic timing.
Chandni-the new look which inspires 90's. The white theme given to Sri's look set precedent to others. Pastel colours are the oomph factor then onwards. Infact Madhuri tried her level best to copy this look in DTPH

MY own opinion - in acting it's SriDevi by far - I don't really consider Madhuri that much of an actress there are many better than her to be honest.
Dancing wise - I would go for Madhuri Sridevi was nice too especially in romantic type songs - But MAdhuri i would say was better that's just my opinion she had more feminine grace.

Sridevi is also Kajol's, Karan's, Preity's, Juhi's, Yash Ji's sis-in-law. Sridevi is the whole industry's sis-in-law because coming to comparison almost everyone in the industry choses the very special SRIDEVI and leaves the rest in cold.

What 2 or 3 hits are you talking about? The " 2 or 3 hits" you mentioned are those that immortalized her in Indian Cinema. She has **many** hits in many languages.
She never feared experimenting with new roles but showed different shades of her talent.
And remember , hits or flops don't make a true artist. A complete artist like Shridevi is made by their own talent, hard work, their positive attitude towards others, and by their fans love. That was she was.
Sridevi did 62 hindi movies and gave more than 20 clean hits and others mainly semi hits or above average while Madhuri in 68 movies gave only 14 hits.

@desidancers Regarding Amitabh thing, Sridevi was the last actress to be said who could hold a movie on her own shoulders, It was always the case with Sridevi until her last movie, even the much delayed "Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahin" she was the star with Akshay being just a support, well even the movie name says it all. You cant say the same about Madhuri because even some of her last movies she didn't have anything great doing in them, an example is Mahaanta.

@desidancers The success of Nagina, Chandni, Chaalbaaz, Laadla, Gumrah, Judaai can all be almost entirely attributed to Sridevi (even the moderate success of Army). Madhuri's only hit that can be mostly attributed to her is Raja. Otherwise, all her big hits were hero oriented. Look at the names- Beta, KhalNayak, Devdas, RamLakhan- all about men. Nagina, Chandni, Chaalbaaz, and even less successful films like Chandramukhi, Chand ka Tukda, Banjaran- all titled for heroine Sri. Mad never had that.

@kwachuh01 actually madhuri had a string of hits starting from 1990 to 1995 ... these films were dil, saajan, beta, khalnayak, hum aapke hain kaun and raja... however, films like dil, saajan and HAHK were very commercial / average roles and madhuri never really opted for something different...sridevi on the other hand, always took the risks and did adventerous projects e.g. khuda gawah, lamhe, gumrah etc....madhuri's done some different roles as well, but not as much as sridevi

Chaalbaaz- Heroine centric comedy movie- became a standard setter when comes to comical act by an actress. In fact performance of actresses like Mad, Juhi, Shilpa, and now Lara were/are compared to Sri's comic timing.And industry still says that Sri has the perfect comic timing.
Chandni-the new look which inspires 90's. The white theme given to Sri's look set precedent to others. Pastel colours are the oomph factor then onwards. Infact Madhuri tried her level best to copy this look in DTPH

@koolkattoronto Yes you are very true. Actually Sridevi was Anil's bhabhi in 87/88/93/94 when in each pf his interview he quoted Sri as his fav actress. Sridevi is also Kajol's, Karan's, Preity's, Juhi's, Yash Ji's sis-in-law. Sridevi is the whole industry's sis-in-law because coming to comparison almost everyone in the industry choses the very special SRIDEVI and leaves the rest in cold.

As a Sridevi fan since her entry to Bollywood I never cared for what would she do off screen or in her whole life. My interest has always been on the EXTREMELY VERSATILE Sridevi on screen who made all the other actresses of her time look in front of her like ANTS. :). Sridevi did 62 hindi movies and gave more than 20 clean hits and others mainly semi hits or above average while Madhuri in 68 movies gave only 14 hits.
