its all about horsepower. i gear up a bike to produce 1000 ft lbs and yet im going to get nowhere soon enough. diesels generate more horsepower from less fuel and you can boost them up more than gas engines.
Yes, they do have more torque. No, they're less powerful. The Audi R15 TDI has 600 BHP, while the Lola-Aston Martin B09/60 has 650+ BHP. And no, they're not 'way' more fuel efficient. They only use around 5% less fuel, and the gasoline engines make up for it by having higher fuel capacity.
Torque doesn't really matter if you'll be driving the engine at the RPM they were designed to run at. They'll always be in their powerband.
@Atheismrulez That's probably because the ACO, for some reason is limiting the Diesels to try and balace the differences. However, the diesels do still seem to have the upper hand. True, the Lola-Aston Martins do have around 50 more horsepower than the Audis and the Peugeots, but the Diesels are still faster in a straight line due to the 750+ ft lbs of torque, as opposed to the around 500 ft lbs for the gas cars. but, you do have a point, thanks to the ACO, the gas cars can compete with Audi now
Sorry, but you're just plain wrong (at least on torque). Torque will only make your car faster in low RPMs. At mid and high RPMs, it's all about horsepower.
@Atheismrulez point taken. anyway, simply the ups and downs about a car in a person eyes is subjective. so if u don't like the Diesels, good for you. I do. okay?
@Atheismrulez y? I mean, It's not the prettiest car in the world, and plus It's gonna be replaced next year, as is the Peugeot 908, but y do ya hate it?
@Atheismrulez eh, at least it's gonna be replaced next year. I was a fan of the R10 for a while, and when the R15 was said to come out, I was excited as hell. but, as the Nostalgia Critic once said: "it blewed." I jsut hope the new R18 will fix all the issues. Plus, Peugoet's gonna replace the 908.
@RaceKing62 Yeah Peugeot replaced the 908 with something that looks the same but tiny engine and tiny exhaust.......WITH AN UGLY FIN........ Audi's R18 looks like the front tyres are 2 ft. wide...
Also, since I didn't mention this: the BHP figures given by the manufacturers are OBVIOUSLY bullshit. Both the LMP1 diesel and gasoline cars make more than 700 HP. The same situation happened before in the 80s and 90s, where the manufacturers (Nissan, Sauber-Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, etc.) would claim 800 HP when they actually had 900 HP.

It has a turbocharged Peugeot V6 engine developed by Sodemo and producing 550 bhp. This is the car that I have won the Le Mans 24 Hoyrs race in Gran Turismo 4.
Pescarolo C60 my favorite

Fucking hate the diesel cars. They're literally silent and they're also less powerful.

@Atheismrulez uh, there more powerful than any gas Le Mans car. plus, they have waaayy more torque, and are way more fuel efficient.

Now, I actually kinda like the Peugeot 908 HDI FAP. It has a decent sound and is fast. Now if only they fixed the reliability issues...
But I do hate the Audi R15 TDI.

@Atheismrulez The Audi R10 produces 650 horsepower, the Peugeot 908 700 horsepower, that's not less then any other car out there at Le Mans.
