  • love her !!!!

  • I understand everyone has their opinions, but I do not see how you all think that she is much better than Fleming. I actually prefer Fleming over Anna. I think her voice lacks some of the depth and her attempt at trills, ouch.

  • I personally think the human voice loses significant quality when it is used to compete with an orchestra, and think now we have microphones and amplifiers we should be moving away from the "trained" voices of the past - I much prefer an untrained, but note accurate voice - lets move away from immediate (never ending) vibrato, and gliding up to higher notes and lets hear some more normal voices that are not so over the top.

  • @hootersnooter

Go listen to Justin Bieber then

  • This production was wonderful. Villegier is such a genius I don't understand why he isn't invited to work in more places. This was the best thing I ever saw at Glyndebourne, and that includes Fleming's Countess.

  • I take back my earlier comment, the more I think about this opera, along with Handel's Giulio Cesare in Eggito, the more I begin to realize that I do love this opera!

  • Whose voice would you say is more suited to this role? I have heard Rene Fleming slaughter this role and the dame/diva Joan Sutherland. Yes, some voices are not suited to certain roles but, in this case, I would have to disagree with you. Her stage presence rivals that of Callas, in my hunble opinion with the main difference being Antonacci has an incredible voice to go with it. Sorry, Callas did NOT. (but that is an argument for another day......

  • Well, you got me there. I would take La Antonacci over La Fleming any day of the week. And you are right about her stage presence, especially in this role. She's one of the few bright spots in an otherwise darkly lit, rather misguided production.

  • I agree, modern stagings are not my favourite either but for this production, it almost fits.....Antonacci has the most incredible range, able to sing mezzo and soprano roles equally well....See her in Rossini's Ermione.......

  • What a wise words!, and the worst is that some peolpe think that Fleming has a very well suited voice to baroque Repertoire (Yeah right! for that happen she would have to re-born) :P

  • @theNotSoDivineMsM

Callas had a 3 octave range and could sing dramatic mezzo to high soprano, light coloratura and heaviest of roles. You don't find a voice like that incredible?

  • I watched the DVD yesterday, and was dumbfounded!

    The cast are flawless.

  • Thank You LoRau
