Supra is good, but they are getting pricey. 2001 Lexus IS is a good alternative to Supra, they are abundant and used the same engine as Supra and it can be bought as low as $3000 high mileage but good driving condition. Stripped it then add a few turbos and im sure it drives like a supra.

@steeworker98 Im not sure why people think its sooo expensive to build these motors, but youre wrong... The motor comes from the factory forged. They hold 600+rwhp SAFELY on a stock block. Put a turbo, a big set of injectors, and a tune on em and welcome to 600whp, and all for less than 5K for the good stuff. Do it the cheap way and you can still run 400+whp and have as much at the wheels as most cars do at the crank. Purchase price+upgrades= still less than the price for a new mustang gt...

1st off shitty heads are crap on a 5.0. u might as well have stock heads. also a cam isn't exactly a great mod either especially a b 303 or e 303. that will cause power loss and an intake and exhaust is not exactly getting you great results either with a stock intake manifold and shot heads nevermind injectors a decent throttle body and some gears

The biggest part is the driver. Look at this video. I swear I saw a shift light inside the Mustang and yet it didn't appear the driver even shifted when he should have, thus it means the driver didn't know what he was doing. A 4 cylinder Saturn 1.9 can whip just about anything if the driver of the other car is a newb. He should stick to driving a family sedan.

@pmaneille73 - A.) Alot of people who drive Supras are interested in making huge horsepower numbers. Big peaky power lends itself to highway racing where you are hanging out in your strong RPM range w/ less traction issues.
B.) It's friggin hard to launch/drag a heavy car with a "little" motor, "peaky" powerband, and a big turbo. It's hard to keep traction, to launch, and most Supra guys don't have the setup (tires/suspension/launch control for boost) to launch well. - I have a single'd Supra.

PLUS some cars are just plain cheaper to upgrade, work on and maintain
There's two things everybody need to realize. One, American muscle cars have the fastest drag racing records, period. Two, no matter how fast a car is, there's always something out there that can beat it. You don't need a V8 to be fast. There's always going to be some fast imports that will smoke muscle cars, and vise versa. That's life. Get over it.
@juno4000 High HP supras and japanese cars in general are usually too much to think about for the average person. Not like a simplistic mustang. Also parts are always out there for mustangs and muscle cars that are easy to come by. I tried modifying a supra. Tight tolerances, sourcing parts and thought needs to go into it.

A slight bore on a 302 would be about 0.30 over and that would make it a 306 its common for a 302 to get a 0.30 bore any thing more then that would make the cylinder walls too weak. but if its the stock E7 heads they are shitty. a popular cam would be a E303 and they are good for low torque. the guy in the stang kinda shifted late b4 the supra started to pulled on him take it to a 1/4 mile track and then see who's got what.

mk3 maybe isnt best car made up to this date....but in its hayday it was 1 of the fastest production cars available and was dubbed the corvette killer in 1987 ;) mk4 is just keeping the tradition going strng!
A real race is from a dead stop. The torque from the mustang would eat the supra. Plus, the reason for the cowl, he may have a high rise intake, and needed the extra room, that is if its carbed.
And for the mustang handling, i have an 89 with 275's on all four, granted, it may not handle like a supra, it sticks to the road pretty good.

1st off shitty heads are crap on a 5.0. u might as well have stock heads. also a cam isn't exactly a great mod either especially a b 303 or e 303. that will cause power loss and an intake and exhaust is not exactly getting you great results either with a stock intake manifold and shot heads nevermind injectors a decent throttle body and some gears

The biggest part is the driver. Look at this video. I swear I saw a shift light inside the Mustang and yet it didn't appear the driver even shifted when he should have, thus it means the driver didn't know what he was doing. A 4 cylinder Saturn 1.9 can whip just about anything if the driver of the other car is a newb. He should stick to driving a family sedan.

@pmaneille73 - A.) Alot of people who drive Supras are interested in making huge horsepower numbers. Big peaky power lends itself to highway racing where you are hanging out in your strong RPM range w/ less traction issues.
B.) It's friggin hard to launch/drag a heavy car with a "little" motor, "peaky" powerband, and a big turbo. It's hard to keep traction, to launch, and most Supra guys don't have the setup (tires/suspension/launch control for boost) to launch well. - I have a single'd Supra.

PLUS some cars are just plain cheaper to upgrade, work on and maintain

Two, no matter how fast a car is, there's always something out there that can beat it. You don't need a V8 to be fast. Also parts are always out there for mustangs and muscle cars that are easy to come by. I tried modifying a supra. Tight tolerances, sourcing parts and thought needs to go into it.

now thats a 1j supra on stock twins a stock 1j out the factory was 280hp...now the 1j swap cost around 4k so give another 1k or so to other odds and ends like exhaust brakes so forth its cost more like 6-7k. Do some better reasearch and not posting false info....

A slight bore on a 302 would be about 0.30 over and that would make it a 306 its common for a 302 to get a 0.30 bore any thing more then that would make the cylinder walls too weak. but if its the stock E7 heads they are shitty. a popular cam would be a E303 and they are good for low torque. the guy in the stang kinda shifted late b4 the supra started to pulled on him take it to a 1/4 mile track and then see who's got what.

mk3 maybe isnt best car made up to this date....but in its hayday it was 1 of the fastest production cars available and was dubbed the corvette killer in 1987 ;) mk4 is just keeping the tradition going strng!

A real race is from a dead stop. The torque from the mustang would eat the supra. Plus, the reason for the cowl, he may have a high rise intake, and needed the extra room, that is if its carbed.
And for the mustang handling, i have an 89 with 275's on all four, granted, it may not handle like a supra, it sticks to the road pretty good.
