If Tristan isn't alpha anymore is because HE WANTED SO! He's main target is rehabilitation of wolves, not to keep them as pet! The pack and the alpha had to act like one and to have faith in themselves instead to rely on Tristan. That should be way harder and heartbreaking for him to do so than just remain the leader of the pack.
Look at those eyes. There's more to this then just a Howling. Some people say it's the way they comunicate but to me its more then that. I love wolves. And great video by the way.
Several years ago, I took my daughter to Wolf Park, it was very memorable because she wanted in the enclosure with the pups to hold them. She was just old enough to understand that the humans in the pen with the pups were seen as fellow wolves by the pack, didn't mean she liked that answer though. She's an animal lover, and she was upset that the caretakers got to do something she really wanted to do.
Oh wow! You own wolves! XD I'd love to own one one day...but I definitely wouldn't unless I was sure I could give it a good home...but that's interesting to learn that a permit could allow you to own one. I never knew that...though I did do some novel-reading on wolves when I was younger. I thought they were too wild to own, like tigers generally are...but they are beautiful.
I love howlers...and Tristan is a beautiful animsl. <3
You folks at Wolf Park are so fortunate to be able to work with these magnificent creatures. The closest I could get would be visiting the Mexican Greys at the zoo, which makes me sad to see them penned in those enclosures. :(
Around 1:00 is it only Tristan howling or is the camera man howling with him? The discord is pretty though. I'm not 100% sure if wolves can modulate and sing 2 notes at the same time in different octaves. Is it just him the whole time or is someone howling with him as well?

I love wolves very much. In fact, I believe there's more to them than how they are typically stereotyped in fiction. After all, they're the reason why man's best friend (domestic dog) exists today. Wolves can be our victims or our best friends. It takes special people to understand them and let them know that there are those who care about them. I also believe that wolves only bare there fangs at enemies. Not to their friends.

nothing beautiful in wolves, they mangle the livestock and kill hunting dogs. just last month one tried to make his way to my dogs enclosure, shot at it but missed :( only good wolv is on the floor in front of the fireplace, here in finland our wolves are very mutch bigger than those, 60-70cm in height

anyone of you seen wolf in nature? i have seen 2 just this month, we have a problem with these animals. goverment dont allow to hunt any of them and they say they are not a problem but they dont live here. theres not mutch food in the forests anymore so they eat dogs and a lots of them. they dont act naturally if they eat dogs and come to peoples yards to look for them. i would like to hear your oppinion of wolves after wolf eats your dogs from your yard and messes up your trash cans.
You have such a problem with wolves. You should have thought about them before development began. If you take food away from any animal, he/she will resort to drastic measures. If it means eating domestics, then go right ahead. I really don't care if a wolf gnaws your leg off.
It's called using your head! you don't leave your animals unattended,. You secure your trash. They only come to your areas because humans have encroached on THEIR land. Humans can be so arrogant when it comes to cohabitation with predators.
Move away if you can't handle it! They were here first.
Otherwise, learn to live among them and learn to chase them off without killing them. I'm sorry about your dogs but that is human error, not wolf problem.
Wolf Park is a behavior research facility in Battle Ground, Indiana. It is open to the public from May through November and for Saturday Howl Night all year long.
It is home to 18 wolves in various packs, 2 coyotes, 3 foxes, and a small herd of bison. On Sundays, two or three wolves are put into the bison pasture for 30 to 45 minutes. They demonstrate predatory behavior, testing the bison. There has never been a serious injury to either species in over 25 years of this demonstration.
That was beautiful. I have wanted to go to Wolf Park for so long! Truly magnificent animals and I only hope one day soon I can hear them howl live. So to speak. ^.^
Oh my God, He's so awesome!!!! I've been to Wolf Park and its amazing. Righ before we started to leave they all started howling, it was the most beautiful thing I've ever heard :D
You do not tame a wolf. The wolves at Wolf Park are not tame. They are at the park because for various reasons they are unable to live in the wild. It is a great place to visit, and learn about wolves.
I actually have pictures of my husband in the pen with several of the wolves, and Tristan took a liking to him. Tristan sat with my husband the entire time he was in the pen.
Tristan is a fine judge of character. I'm sure he would enjoy seeing your husband again. Come back soon.
Wolf Parks' wolves are not domesticated, which cannot happen in one animal's lifetime. They have been hand raised by humans and are habituated to human contact, meaning they will behave normally in the presence of humans. They also depend on us to feed them.
Wolves in the wild will avoid any human contact. You could not get within a half mile of a wild wolf. They would run away from you.
Thank you all so much for the education you bring to all. Your work is greatly appreciated.
I recently came back from Banff and Jasper, Alberta. We saw one lone outside of Banff, but saw a small pack in Jasper.
They were aware of us within a mile or more (windy). As we became down wind, we were able to get fairly close, but weren't looking to disturb them, just observe. They are such a important part of the Eco-system along with Wildlife in general.
I like near the end, Tristan pauses', gives us a look, as if to say, " Do you believe that ?"(1:16) Then raises' his howl with others to the point that you feel the vibration. Funny yet moving. To see them in the wild is truly a gift. It's my passion.
I'm with Onewitwolves. There are howls for more than one occasion, not one for "happy free wolves" and one for "sad, caged and miserable wolves". The wolves at Wolf Park are treated very well and are ambassador wolves. The park works for wolves rights and try to rid people of the prejudices that they might have of wolves.
While wolves howl for a variety of reasons, I'm quite sure Tristan wasn't upset. lol
If you listen closely, he is responding to others howling and being a Alpha, he's making sure he is heard. This is howling weekend at Wolf park where they are taken great care of. They can always use the donations too !
As beautiful as a wolf can sound this sounds so sad and yearning. I listened to some recordins of wolves in the wild and they are so chilling and full of life. Listening to this poor wolf saddens my heart.
I went to this place! this is my dad's age but I had to se it because they wouldn't let my age on...poop. My step-bro went with me, he's got 2 videos...Hard sell hannah and A killer's dozen. He's the black haired, sex joke making, kidnapped, and main character guy
To hear him is like a tugging at my soul, my heart soars for him and his wish to be free and running. I cry for him and all the wolves being hunted down across the world.
I've been to Wolf Hollow 3 times over the years, so I don't know the wolves personally. I "adopted" one of them so for a while I got a newsletter. I know the wolves by their photos on the adoption form. I haven't been there in a few years, though, so I haven't seen the 2 additions to the pack (Osa and Nina). I believe those 2 also have connections at Wolf Park... right? I think I read that on Wolf Hollow's website. I would love to visit Wolf Park some day, but I live pretty far away.
Wow, I didn't know Tristan became alpha male.... I've seen so many Monty Sloan pictures with Tristan being dominated by Seneca. Of course, in all the pictures I've seen of the two, Seneca looked old. I guess times have changed. Nice video, it looked beautiful.
Tristan became alpha of the Main Pack when Seneca, Miska, and Marion were separated so that Erin could have a litter without Marion's interference.
Tristan is now the "Adult in Charge" of the younger Main Pack wolves. He uses a loud growl but measured responses with the youngsters.
Unfortunately in March, 2007, Seneca was found to have advanced cancerous growths and was mercifully put to sleep. He was a wonderful wolf, one of the best alphas ever, and we miss him, as do Miska and Marion.
Oh wow, Tristan's face at 1:18. Handsome

Wolves can be our victims or our best friends. It takes special people to understand them and let them know that there are those who care about them. I also believe that wolves only bare there fangs at enemies. Not to their friends.

nothing beautiful in wolves, they mangle the livestock and kill hunting dogs. just last month one tried to make his way to my dogs enclosure, shot at it but missed :( only good wolv is on the floor in front of the fireplace, here in finland our wolves are very mutch bigger than those, 60-70cm in height

anyone of you seen wolf in nature? i have seen 2 just this month, we have a problem with these animals. goverment dont allow to hunt any of them and they say they are not a problem but they dont live here. theres not mutch food in the forests anymore so they eat dogs and a lots of them. they dont act naturally if they eat dogs and come to peoples yards to look for them. i would like to hear your oppinion of wolves after wolf eats your dogs from your yard and messes up your trash cans.
albaanisissi 3 years ago
You have such a problem with wolves. You should have thought about them before development began. If you take food away from any animal, he/she will resort to drastic measures. If it means eating domestics, then go right ahead. I really don't care if a wolf gnaws your leg off.
MyChemicalDeception 3 years ago
It's called using your head! you don't leave your animals unattended,. You secure your trash. They only come to your areas because humans have encroached on THEIR land. Humans can be so arrogant when it comes to cohabitation with predators.
Move away if you can't handle it! They were here first.
Otherwise, learn to live among them and learn to chase them off without killing them. I'm sorry about your dogs but that is human error, not wolf problem.

what is this wolf park place?
Kethrren 3 years ago
Wolf Park is a behavior research facility in Battle Ground, Indiana. It is open to the public from May through November and for Saturday Howl Night all year long.
It is home to 18 wolves in various packs, 2 coyotes, 3 foxes, and a small herd of bison. On Sundays, two or three wolves are put into the bison pasture for 30 to 45 minutes. They demonstrate predatory behavior, testing the bison. There has never been a serious injury to either species in over 25 years of this demonstration.

Tristan sat with my husband the entire time he was in the pen.
butterfly1055 3 years ago

I felt truly blessed.

I like near the end, Tristan pauses', gives us a look, as if to say, " Do you believe that ?"(1:16) Then raises' his howl with others to the point that you feel the vibration. Funny yet moving. To see them in the wild is truly a gift. It's my passion.
packmentality 4 years ago
I'm with Onewitwolves. There are howls for more than one occasion, not one for "happy free wolves" and one for "sad, caged and miserable wolves". The wolves at Wolf Park are treated very well and are ambassador wolves. The park works for wolves rights and try to rid people of the prejudices that they might have of wolves.
*big thumbs up to Wolf Park*

While wolves howl for a variety of reasons, I'm quite sure Tristan wasn't upset. lol
If you listen closely, he is responding to others howling and being a Alpha, he's making sure he is heard. This is howling weekend at Wolf park where they are taken great care of. They can always use the donations too !
Peace

As beautiful as a wolf can sound this sounds so sad and yearning. I listened to some recordins of wolves in the wild and they are so chilling and full of life. Listening to this poor wolf saddens my heart.

Listen to Mother Earth. She speaks to you through the wind, the landscape, and it's creatures.
If you open your mind and heart.
You will understand.

I'm really sorry to hear that.
By the way, is Tristan related to Martin of Wolf Hollow?
Wolfy491 4 years ago
Martin and TeeBee were Tristan's parents, also the parents of Maya and Erin.
tomod64 4 years ago
So that makes Tristan, Maya, and Erin the siblings of Oka and Misha - cool! They were all from the same litter, right?
Wolfy491 4 years ago
I'm not sure. I'll check our database of captive wolves. You seem to know the Wolf Hollow wolves well. I'll let you know what I find out.
tomod64 4 years ago
I've been to Wolf Hollow 3 times over the years, so I don't know the wolves personally. I "adopted" one of them so for a while I got a newsletter. I know the wolves by their photos on the adoption form. I haven't been there in a few years, though, so I haven't seen the 2 additions to the pack (Osa and Nina). I believe those 2 also have connections at Wolf Park... right? I think I read that on Wolf Hollow's website. I would love to visit Wolf Park some day, but I live pretty far away.
Thanks!

Wow, I didn't know Tristan became alpha male.... I've seen so many Monty Sloan pictures with Tristan being dominated by Seneca. Of course, in all the pictures I've seen of the two, Seneca looked old. I guess times have changed. Nice video, it looked beautiful.
Wolfy491 4 years ago
Tristan became alpha of the Main Pack when Seneca, Miska, and Marion were separated so that Erin could have a litter without Marion's interference.
Tristan is now the "Adult in Charge" of the younger Main Pack wolves. He uses a loud growl but measured responses with the youngsters.
Unfortunately in March, 2007, Seneca was found to have advanced cancerous growths and was mercifully put to sleep. He was a wonderful wolf, one of the best alphas ever, and we miss him, as do Miska and Marion.
tomod64 4 years ago
I've followed some of the goings on at the wolf park. Thats terrible news! Seneca was...still is a stunningly beautiful wolf.

I love the look on his face at 1:11.
It looks like he's going: "Why aren't the talking back to me?!"
I love how wolves can show expressions on their faces.
