It is Chinese. But you are right - Ancient Japanese used Chinese characters as the template to create their Kanji. They are quite different though.

I love this song.

The original is by Taiwanese, Bobby Chen, also known by his Chinese name Chen Sheng. I still remember buying his album in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This song is old but still I love it due to it's good melody and lyrics.
