  • Could you PLEASE make a tutorial of this song? I would jizz in my pants if you did man!! I beg you!!

  • Take that as a compliment though... It shows how much I dissect your playing.... MUST LEARN MORE!

  • Omg... Thumphrey... 6:13 ..... Now you have to post more videos! NO CHOICE NOW!

  • that is just down right fucking amazing and i can only wish that i will one day be able to play that cause it is my goal in life now. i think tool would think that your song is pretty awesome :)

  • That was amazing dude! To hear Maynard's words coming from your piano was wicked. I was singing right along with it, the pace was a little fast but yet still wonderful! You're AWESOME!

  • Here's my opinion, even if it doesn;t matter.ha.

I like your piano playing because it emphasizes on the music and not just the lyrics like most covers with tool. I love how Monroe ads his own interpretation in the piano though. overall, you both are fucking awesome. keep it up

  • What an amazing instrument

  • good job dude. i work at a piano bar and i asked the guy who plays piano if he would learn and play schism, which i know is a lot to ask. I doubt he will but if he did it would blow my mind like you just did. seriously tho he gets paid 60 dollars an hour to play piano covers. idk that sound like a pretty sweet day job. just sayin

  • if you like this

search - Bill Hicks and Tool - Lateralus THE MESSAGE tell me what you think...

  • I like your piano playing better than the other guy on youtube who does vocals... good job mate

  • @FlozelltheHotell

    Do u mean monroe12345

  • @MikeWJones1497 No he means Marilyn Monroe, because she also covered the tool song...

  • Yeeee that's what i like too see!

    Keep it up.

  • you play quieter in softer parts that is good dynamics

  • can i come to your house with a really nice microphone and record some stuff

  • No matter how many times I see this I am amazed. Absolutely Brilliant. Pure genius.

  • We can't compare Adam Monroe with this guy, cause this guy make a totally instrumental cover and Monroe use his voice,so they're totally diferent...

    Both guys are awesome!!!

  • i cried

  • DUDE

EFFING TEACH ME HOW TO PLAY LIKE THAT PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

  • Hahahaa! Yes, legendary!!! Well done!!!!

  • Beautiful. You could have done better on dynamics, but I barely noticed.

  • @Babkockdood lol is that sarcasm? i thought his dynamics great. and what section did you think his dynamics were off?

  • @cubetube199 I think what I meant five months ago was that he played noticeably quiter in softer parts of the song.

  • I prefer this version over the other guys. This one sounds closer to the original song

  • I think I do appreciate this version an incredible amount because you do capture the quite tones that lead to such great crescendos and build up. The anxiety is there and that makes it great.

  • the crescendos are perfect... if you could sing this would probably be better than adam monroe's version

still, this is incredibly amazing... I, as a guitar learner, have you as an inspiration, even though we play different instruments, i want to be as good on guitar as you are on piano

  • and yes, make an album!!

  • and yes, make an album!!

  • Is there any way you could score this? I would LOVE some sheet music for this. It's beautiful.

  • I really enjoy how you incorporate the vocals part with the bass and guitar parts. Very original, very effective, very cool.

Best wishes from the audience. Keep up the good work.

  • come to azores islands..

    you are the man!!

    PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT

    regards from faial island, portugal

  • one word: prodigy.

  • hot

  • amazing!

  • thanks for the download link that is very considerate.

  • Fucking godly!!! You should make an album!! I want two!!

  • amazing ! i have no worlds

  • INCREDIBLE

  • Fantastic job!

    I ♥ it!

    X

    :)

  • @drnnhvcdsde

adams version is equally amazing but dont forget that he does the vocals also and has amazing voice, tyler though, puts vocals into notes and thats what makes him so special~respect to both of them, equally outstanding musicians!-imagine them collaborating!

    keep on rockin guys!

  • fuck monroe

  • holy shit i've never seen anything that could compare to that

  • Please, do a cover for AEnima, or I will. Been thinking about this one for a while :o

  • Not really whining. Just suggesting. I think it'd sound good. I'm going to write my own if this man does not.

  • My good friend Arya was obsesed with tool this song in particular he jumped of a building last friday may he rest in peace. I wish his family would have let me play this at his funeral

  • yea rite!

  • Play it at his grave. Out of respect.

  • Damn, this is crazy how this guy render the intensity of the songs.. his heart beats for it, this is just totally insane and I like it real' much.

  • And the chuck norris post made me chuckle, but if the poster were a tool fan worth the plastic his scratched cds are made of I doubt he'd be such a hateful ignorant dick. May he recognize and abandon his dickishness, or get knocked right the f*** out of his own body and remember the loving creative power and harmony embodied in this holy song.

  • Absolutely f***ing brilliant!! Though even on piano its impossible to fully capture the song (it would take a 2 piano duet, maybe) and to previous posters, a good keyboard at around $500 is way better on space, dosnt need tuning, its semiportable, a fraction of the cost, and mimics among hundreds of other instruments, and all types of piano indistinguishably to the human ear (room accoustics differ however) I recomend the new yamahas.

  • Nothing beats the weight and feel and touch sensitivity of a real piano if you're trying to compare a keyboard to a piano.

  • But when it comes to playing a keyboard vs a real piano it's like masturbation vs sex.

  • Both good but piano being better right? :] lol id say i have to agree with you on that, although keyboards can be fun too

  • assmangeek:

One reason we have such a rich a diverse culture is the exploration of expression in art. Last I looked at your page you don't contribute anything to youtube, just criticism to this persons talents. What , if any, talents do you possess?

  • Did you just click on this video so you could leave that comment?

  • Wow, bassman, it's ignorant people like you that make the world unpleasant for the rest of us who recognize all the beauty to be found in the world. What would music be if people could not recreate it in a new way like this? Whether piano covers or string quartet versions - it's all unique and beautiful, and I feel sorry for you, that you cannot recognize what music really is.

  • yo humphrey hook a brudda up with some sheet music trying to write down the notes as you play them is a bitch

  • im so jelous! i wish i could play the piano!

  • save some money, buy a piano and start learning. sure it'll take you some time, but hey - every player had to start somewhere.

  • I would, but i dont have space in my house for a piano

  • hahah poor bitch

  • You should try a keyboard, then. Most of them still sound nice, you get a variety of tones, and they don't really take up too much space.

  • Awesome man , love it

  • Love what you're doing in the verse, though I think the opening riffs are a bit sloppy if I'm being honest, and you let the bass growl a bit too much with that pedal staying down. I can't help but think it's an F when you're hitting an E all through the "ride the spiral to the end" bit? You translate the last instrumental bits really well though.

Don't you just wish they had a little "danny carey" drum accompinament? My kingdom for those hi-hats!

  • very nice i lust love it :D

  • O_O"

  • wow, simply wow...really good job...i just sang to it and it was a lot of fun...thanks for that...

  • Embrace my desire to feel the rhythm, to feel connected...

    Beautiful work on these. ^^

  • Dude, totally different styles. Adam uses his voice also, he's a great artist, but we can't compare them.

This guy's voice is the Piano!

    Thumphrey05 you F**kin' rulle!!

  • this much better! the music is more faithfull to the song. and sorry but i can't hear this guy when i have mayanards voice in my head....

  • i think adam monroes piano is MUCH better. The only thing that this guy does better is emphasis on the crescendos. But this is impressive nonetheless.

  • yeah i figured emphasizing my crescendos would be the only way to make up a little ground on adam monroes awesomeness

  • @thumphrey05 The crescendos are definatly important in a song like this where build is construed throughout it. Great job man!!

  • Your wrong

  • who is wrong?

  • is this in the second mode of C major? I think it's the Dorian Mode...

  • It's songs like Lateralus that make you understand why Maynard moves like he does at their concerts.

Great....GREAT piano cover, all of them.

  • ok song is gr8 and stuff u rock bla bla

but let me ask u a question

have u been recording yourself in your underwear play the piano?

  • still one of my all time favorite youtube videos!

  • the keys sing it out for you "swing on the spiral on, fathom divinity and still be a human" and you can still get a feel for both guitar solo's and bass whammy solo the presence of that sent chills down my neck

  • sorry to be an anal bastard but it's actually "swing on the spiral of, our divinity, and still be a human" ;)

but i agree -this is an awesome rendition

  • well you've made the only counter point for me so I'll just shut up

  • great cordination, just amazing well played!

  • Dude, there is a gaping hole in my head where my mind used to be! That was astounding!

  • I was actually able to sing along in my head. Not many others on youtube you can do that with, especially with Tool. Awesome

  • Words can't describe how much I love this instrumental. Thank you, sincerely.

  • the great James Herbert Keenan would be proud.

    Amazing. Great Job man.

  • um.......WOW!!

  • Awesome! You must have two brains!

  • haha

  • Words can't describe this man. It's just awe inspiring.

  • i thought the solo was spectucular

  • beautiful, i listen to these as much as i listen to the real songs, i love piano and to combine it with tool is genius

  • this is truly a work of art how do you do this?!?!

  • excellent. Love those covers. Well done! Bravo!! :)

  • raw talent man, i listen to your covers at work when im working on projects, its great first thing in the morning!

  • dope

  • You, are a GOD amongst mere mortals.

  • ...

  • do you work out all the different sections yourself or do you get different music of the internet and just follow the notation?

  • you play it so well i could be fooled that the original was piano and tool made a hard rock cover. lolz

  • Very nice, kepp doing that way...

  • wow man...good shit good shit...i know how to play piano quite well but i dumped it and went onto guitar to play slayer tool etc...i didnt know u can play tool and it will sound this good

  • -added to favorites-

  • anyone who can make tool sound awesome on the piano is awesome

  • once again dude.. brilliant

  • FUCKING AMSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great artists need not worry about such primitive things as what they wear

  • Amazing... Spiral out...

  • teach me your ways

  • this is beautiful, truly.

as a tool fan, i can honestly say you've done it justice.

the concept of lateralus and their use of it in the song just proves again their genius.

they are a truly unique and incredible band.

  • well said

  • on the craziest day of my life this kept me sane, playing it over and over while I stair at my roof. Thanks for creating the only thing I've got right now.

  • aw thats sweet.I awwed when I read this *hugs*

  • you can see the sequence at work in his hands!!

  • MAKE A CD PLEASE

  • just a little advice, don't play that droning 4 note pattern so loud at the beginning. The intro sounds best alone. Otherwise, fantastically played.

  • You should make a Tribute CD

  • i can play the opening of lateralus on my violin

  • you have amazing skills. good job! here's to hoping you keep this up.

  • I love your playing but you gotta find a way to get better audio levels on your recordings.

  • Spiral out keep going.

  • Does this guy ever change his clothes? Amazing playing anyhow. :)

  • Truly amazing, i always find myself going back to this song..

With my feet upon the ground, i lose myself between the sounds..

  • I agree with Kusturik 100% somehow we should def make tool aware of this guy so maynard can do vocals!!!

  • Haven't listen to you for a long time, but you're still breath taking. I think I'm hooked again. :)

  • ¡fabuloso! ¿tenes temas propios?

  • como se dice "propios"?

  • "own".

  • no :(

  • insanely, wickedly addicting

play on my brother, play on

  • my dream is see you playing piano with Maynard in vocals!! :):):)

    Awesome

    Spiral out. keep going.

  • You express yourself so well through your playing. i Can really tell Tool is a big influence on your style. You play all of your covers so fluently and flawlessly. Again i give you props. Much deserved. Peace.

  • yep tool are genius. so is this guy.

  • :O.. oh my god thats the most amazing thing i ever seen i swear to god. keep it up man

  • check out monroe12478's cover of Lateralus, the one where he sings.

  • whoa.. i did thats crazy man

  • I quit playing this game i'm addicted to, Conquer, until I learn this song on piano....I dont think i'll be playing conquer for a loooooong time. You, sir, are amazing.

  • This guy is awesome! I've watched almost all of his tool covers on here. Very cool shit!

  • sounds like you worked on this some....been a while but this is better than what i remember

  • yeah i redid some of em last summer

  • thats so cute i think im gonna cry

  • i believe lateralus' vocals are actually sung to Fibonacci numbers in ascending and descending order.

(syllables matching each number in the sequence)

    just wikipedia it....

  • it is..and maynard even starts singing on the golden ratio

  • that was awesome

  • I love how you add a complete different dimension to these Tool songs which are already incredible. This and Pushit are really well done. Keep it up! :)

  • how long it takes u to get this song??

  • u have a monster span. my fingers are long but urs were made to play piano

  • you are awesome, i can't imagine being able to time it right with the left hand...

  • Let me help it's in 9/8,8/8, & 7/8:)Just a little knowledge from 1 musician to another, but what would I know about complex time signatures...right:)Can't wait for u to bash me for this:)Any heavy criticizm will be greatly appreciated-

  • do you even play piano? doubt it.

  • Ha,where do u come up with this shit?Uh..No I don't,I only played it on r album,but no.I love how u follow me around,& make these abstract comments 4 which u have NO evidence to prove/disprove.I've played guitar/bass/& piano since I was 10.Why would u doubt I play piano?I can only assume it's because it'd kill u to know I'm a talented musician!If anyone has issues IT'S CLEARLY U!R u a musician,do u know what 9/8 means or the difference between a whole note an a 16th note?Define polymeter for me?

  • people who must brag about themselves constantly clearly feel inferior.

  • People who spend time bothering w/a conversation between a toilet & a musician need spend their time in better ways.If they are compelled beyond reason to chime in though, they may want to examine a few principles of play!A few example may be:1)Attempt to at least develop a valid arguement! 2)Define their absurdity to exist in the conversation period.3)My personal favorite; Be able to decipher the difference between someone being a bitch & someone making an innocent comment about liking something

  • i LOOOOVE how this bothers you so much, i am having a good time!

  • Define "played it on r album". p.s -9/8 is a measure of compound time, a whole not has the value of four beats in common time, 1/16 note is a modification or semi-quaver in a whole note and a polymer is the use of two different time measures at the same time. all this from a guy who can only read guitar tab music!

  • im so confused

  • I understand your confusion. I was only interjecting some knowledge not needed to be known if you play by ear, unless you are a music major (useless!). And no I'm not, I'm an engineer/mathematician but music can actually, like all things, be broken down into equations from calculus, differentials and fractals. That is one of the things I like most about Tool, and few know about this, but many songs are based on these. Lateralus itself is written to the pattern formed by the "golden ratio".

  • Yeah that's some crazy shit,a friend mentioned something about that to me,I wasn't really up to speed on what it was,but what he was saying sounded interesting. Also,I would agree "that" knowledge is only valuable in the sense of a discussion as opposed to writing a song,I just love people who chime in their useless criticizms when they themselves don't really know or understand the 1st thing about music,or what it takes to play it.This piano Lateralus though is really pretty great to watch-

  • golden ratio this is confusing me u mean like in math im confused

  • People that are interested in great music that's technical & has some depth to it!Sounds like it's just over you head...SO GET FUCKED:)
