Its purpose is to frighten away bad spirits from the soul of the departed. For this same reason during the funeral procession tourists and others are welcome to join in as the Balinese believe this contributes to the chaos and helps confuse the bad spirits.
the doors overdub is funny, but really sort of grotesque and disrespectful. this is a video of a very solemn cremation ceremony, and while i'd probably like the doors playing at my cremation, i think this is pretty inapropriate.
You may be correct, but I tend to doubt it. The Hindu cremations I saw in India are absolutely solemn, but Bali is quite different from India.
This Balinese cremation, complete with the marching band, really did have a party atmosphere, and I'm the one who was there. The cremations are advertised as tourist events. Nothing solemn about that.
So, I conclude that you would be correct for India, but not for Bali.

Accepting your funeral description, the Doors may add more desirable chaos and confusion.
Throughout this film I use the Balinese music recorded at the time. When there was no music, as with the pyre, I often go with other choices.
This funeral segment is only a clip. Before deciding if the video spoils Bali, perhaps you can watch the entire film and then come to a conclusion:
