@46ntool2 Yes Miguel is still there. I'm not sure the name of the announcer, but I remember being told he has been doing it for FOREVER. :) He is a good friend of Mr. Shaw. Mr. Wilson has/is the Asst. Band director. My son played trombone and Baritone Horn and graduated in 2009. He was in both marching bands (football & Comp) and was in Sym II and then Sym I. He marched for GSU (Georgia Southern) his Freshman year and now he is at UC (Univ Cincinnati). Have to say...we sure do miss it!
@Firaje I'm sorry, unfortunately my son has since graduated and now marches for UC, so I don't get to the competitions anymore. I am sure you guys did great! EVERY single band works VERY hard EVERY year and it IS a disappointment not to win or place. Having said that...3-4 pts is not 'close'....now if you had said .1 or .05, I would say...yeah THAT was close! Believe me, I KNOW all too well what that feels like! Just keep on doing the very best you can do and please, ENJOY your time in band!!
@betteboop57 well it was close considering we were 2nd place and beat every other band there by more than 5 points... but my point was that when I heard them then they weren't as impressive as in this video, but of what I understand the school got a lot smaller, which might explain things.

I just watched this years performance someone put up. Quite honestly, they did an amazing job! I don't particularly care for props, but I see the concept with "the climb". The size of the band looks the same. A new HS did open, but there were plenty to join. I think the color guard hurt them for sure. Just my opinion. I am quite upset they won't be competing anymore. I think that's a mistake....again, just my opinion. Good Luck!
@Firaje That's what I've heard through the grapvine. Very upsetting....especially since they are THE best damn band inmiddle GA and started to give the ATL bands a run; besides the fact that they just got brand new uniforms!

@emo65231 I'm SO glad to hear that!! It's a GREAT band, you'll have a blast... along with a LOT of work, especially band camp in 90+ weather. Stick with it, you'll be very happy you did! Word of advice? See if you can pick up the baritone horn too,maybe they have one at school you can use. It really helps for Comp Band. And DO have your parents get involved! They really need parent involvement. I did all the ordering for the concessions. If you ever have a ?, I'd be happy to help!Good Luck

@hunter2444 Thanks...I don't know what they are planning for this year. My son graduated in 2009 and The Machines was his Senior performance. I agree, it was AMAZING!!! I did however like The Knight also...but yeah, I have to admit, I liked The Machines better. I wish I had video of when they did Machu Picchu!! Now, THAT was INCREDIBLE!!!

Just want to say HoCO still brings it! I marched my freshman year, in 1998, and see they are still using the box formation! It was always a hard one, esp with the band being soooo large. Glad to see it still around, it won us many competitions, and always left people with their mouths hanging open!
Yeah, Steve really knows how to work a band. Hard. He never lets up....we were all sad that he left Richmond Hill. Our band has really had to step up this year....we hope to see you guys in competition again this year!! From the sound of it you will be ahead of the game after having Steve for a week....
Yeah, Mr. Hendricks was at our band camp this week (at HOCOs). We got both the openner and second movement on the field with music. He worked us to DEATH.
So even though I march for Richmond Hill and we are deffinently competitors, I'm a huge fan yall's show this year! The music was awesome, and I loved the drill. Stephen Hendricks (he owns the company that wrote the drill and he's my assistant band director) is pretty amazing! We're all excited to see what yall are doing next year! :)

My son just graduated, so I probably won't be attending much of the games or competitions (and not posting videos). But from what we know, the show is going to be AMAZING!
After months of practicing, I think they made it look 'easy'. Winning at an Atlanta competition proved the performance was hard and they were the best.
So I'm pretty sure my assistant band director wrote this show....good job. He wouldn't shut up about you guys and how good you were to motivate us before Effingham. It's a really great show.
I know one of the Band Directors wrote the show, not sure who. I do know he was IMPRESSED with our performance. Effingham was VERY close...less than a point! We did win Grand Champions at Eagle's Nest. ALL the bands work SO hard and it shows.
We placed 2nd at two competitions, with VERY close scores, this year with this show. We then received GRAND CHAMPIONS at the Eagle's Nest Invitational.
Interesting how the same show is performed at different schools. Where are you located? Congratulations on placing, such a good feeling with all the hard work you did, doesn't it?
Our school is located in Red Lion, PA. We did this show in 2007, but we called it space, and focused more on outerspace and that type of thinking. This year we had an original composition done by the same person, Gary P. Gilroy, and we called it Symphonic Prism: Music inspired by Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. That show won us first place. He is an excellent composer. I uploaded our 2008 show (Symphonic Prism), and our 2007 show (Space) is also somewhere on youtube if you want to see it.
I don't know what you're talking about! If you mean having to spend hours upon hours of drilling in the 100+ heat, that's the way it is; that's what you signed up for! You want to win trophies and be proud of your band? Then, that's what you do!!
There were a LOT of us parents that couldn't speak either! It was a GREAT night! The WHOLE season was GREAT! And yeah, we have the best Drumline around!
