What a GREAT sound! I think MG Rover should have also re-built the 3.5 litre V8 for the the Rover 45 (high spec), and 75 ( entry level). It's a shame that this company went bust, it could have been brilliant....
A multitude of problems that go back more than 40 years :( lack of investment and respect for car engineering and manufacturing in the UK, ignorant unions, useless management, super high taxation.. right up to the end, yet there were some really talented engineers that could squeeze what they could out of what little money they had. The Germans did everything we did better. To this day, Jaguar is still suffering today because of this 'legacy'.
BMW never build a V6 engine for the Rover 75. The V6 engine type is called KV6 and was build by Powertrain witch was a company from MG Rover. The 4 Cylinder Common-Rail-Diesel-Engine for the Rover 75 was made by BMW Steyr.
I'm from Germany and I'm driving a Rover 75 2.0 CDTi and used to drive a MG ZS 180 before. Maybe I'll buy a used MG ZT 260, if there's still one available. This car is pure emotion - not to compare with these modern, boring and sometimes ugly overpriced cars which can be found everywhere.

I think there is some truth in what you are saying. There were a lot of t***ts at Rover. But Prodrive were not as good as expected. I got the impression that they were more of a bolt-on company and at the time unable to design a chassis with advanced refinments needed for a road car. The basic design was good but needed a lot more development to make it work after Rover got it back. As far as I know Prodrive contract was a fixed contract and a finished vehicle was not developed by them.

Sounds good. Is it true the V8 source from Mustang? Anyway, I guess NAC should put this version of ZT on production list. The N series 1.8 turbo is just no enough.
They are one offs made by a company in Macclesfield, basically a straight through pipe instead of the rear silencer so any decent exhaust maker should be able to replicate the sound. I will find out the actual manufacturer, think it might be JP Exhausts or something like that.
This is a really great car. A beautiful design and the perfect drive-me-crazy-V8-sound. I wouldn't make burn outs with any car - that's really stupid. But these are not the original pipes - are they?
