I'm not saying he is the most underrated actor out there but Casey Affleck is an amazing actor who deserves more credit and I actually believe he is more talented than his better known brother Ben
I can't say his character in Stone actually did change by the end of the film. The only character who seemed to change was De Niro's wife, everyone just seemed to be there.
hes not too professional. watch his other interviews. he always gives sarcastic little remarks or quitely insults someone. the person will ignore it because its sucha little remark. seems like an awesome guy. knows when to be professional
@TheLockon00 Still wrong, the late Pete Postlethwaite. Both Oldman and Norton have had their fair share of lead roles in relatively well known movies, whereas Postethwaite (Who I'm sure pretty much nobody on here has heard of) has been a little known actor throughout his entire career. (Plus, there is no such thing as a most underrated actor to begin with)
@LaGoonch Well, Postlethwaite may not be known by name to most people, but almost everyone would recognize him. He's been in some pretty popular movies. Great actor, I agree, but I still give it to Oldman.
@LaGoonch He played a great Irish bad guy in "The Town" and he played Guisepe Conlon in another movie. His name is Welsh I believe and it is hard to pronounce and remember but he was a kick ass actor. His death scene in "The Town" was stunning. God Bless his soul.
@chairde Yeah, he was amazing as Guisepe. It's not often that someone can star beside Daniel Day-Lewis and actually turn in an equal, if not greater, performance. I haven't seen the Town though; I simply cannot see Ben Affleck on screen and enjoy myself simultaneously. It's impossible.
@LaGoonch Completely agree, both Oldman and Norton can be called underrated and are both terrific actors but whilst they each had leading roles in some films Postlethwaite did not really have any and even if he wasn't the main character he bested everyone in a scene he was in. Amazing actor and deserved noticed, RIP
@TheLockon00 Gary Oldman has never given a great character driven performance in a Drama. Most of his stuff is just mimicry. Besides, I'd say he's more popular than Edward Norton.
@spxeli I'd be very surprised if Oldman was more popular. He's gained popularity the last few years because of Batman and Harry Potter, but for the majority of his career he was far from well known. Norton has at least been nominated for oscars twice. Oldman doesn't need character method acting. His technicality is flawless.
@TheLockon00 What does method acting have to do with anything? Do you even know what is means? Edward Norton is not a method actor.
I disagree that Gary Oldman is flawless (no actor is). Most of his best work is mimicry that lacks any real depth. Just because you can change your voice and appearance every movie doesn't make you great actor.
@spxeli I guess I misunderstood your first comment. I wasn't sure what you were getting at with this "character driven performance" business. However, method acting is defined as, "A technique of acting in which an actor aspires to complete emotional identification with a part", which sounds quite a bit like what you're harping on Oldman for not doing.
@spxeli continued. I was impressed with his performance in Tinker Tailor, though I thought it was far from his best. If you're saying he's never done an emotional role, then you're utterly mistaken.
@TheLockon00 No. That's not what I was saying at all. He should of been nominated and probably should of won an Oscar for best supporting actor for State of Grace (though that performance has flaws as well).
@TheLockon00 I had huge expectations for Tinker Tailor... I thought he was finally going to give a great performance worthy of an Oscar nomination. I thought it was actually going to be a performance with some depth. But it wasn't. He just was just emotionless the whole movie (i haven't the alec guinness series, so i can't comment) and his performance wasn't even better than anyone else in the movie. That's how his fans are. Every relatively decent thing he does is Oscar worthy.
