It's well known that IG refuses to have anything to do with DP Mark 3 stuff - Burn, Stormbringer, etc. Hell, that's his prerogative if he wants. RB loved to tweak him on stage about it, so every now and again, he's slip a riff from Mk III in just to piss him off. Jon, Roger and Ian P would grin and just go about their business. Check out Paicey at about 4:08 when he's doing "Long Live Rock and Roll" - yeah, I know, a Rainbow tune but the same idea...

@merilong1 No not really. The guitar riff is similar in Ricky Nelsons Summerlove and The Blues Magoos "We ain't got nothing yet", but anyway this is not a cover a little piece of guitar does not make a cover.

@Chazorvigg You gotta check out "She,s Mine" by the Liverpool Five to hear a much earlier version of this riff...it's recently turned up on Yu Tube....great fuzz guitar and edgy vocals

Purple today is a joke, and yes Blackmore is alive. His music today is still great but more calm, in Blackmores Night with his wife, Candice Night. He still remember the old songs. Just became father recently.

Coll that Ritchie plays a bit of 'Long Live...'. it was a regular "medley" thing in 'Black Night' during the 'Slaves & Masters' tour. Turner would scream that, but Gillan would never sing it. Gillan is Gillan, a stubborn son of a bitch, but I love the man. :) He will only touch MK.I material, like 'Hush' apart from the stuff he sings on himself.

Gillan cut his hair in 1999. I have some videos from 1998 and he has long hair like this, in 1999, it was short. When you get older your hair gets thinner (not like balding, but the actual hairs), and are more difficult to maintain, sort of speak. Gillan had quite long hair in 2005, when I saw DP then., but cut it again.

@polvani2 - Don't agree with you. I think the Deep Purple of today are a really good band aswell. All their studio recordings are good and their performances can be really great.Offcourse getting Ritchie Blackmore in the band again would be sweet but Steve Morse is doing a fine job.

Ye but this battle between them brought out the best in both gillan and blackmore. I mean Musically this was one of Deep Purples best times because Blackmore always kept trying to Blow Gillan of Stage and the magic just flowed from his hands and the rest of the band. in fact when he joined he told gillan im gonna try and blow u off stage evry night, and Gillan said great ill do the same to you!
