After two days of perfect operation, my DVR-007 first didn't start when I turned my car engine on and only started working after I pushed the reset button. Then it worked for a bit only to freeze during recording and produce a purple screen with frozen numbers at the bottom. I then switched to a different SD card and it worked for another day but today it won't turn on again even when I tried to reset it many times. I'm now sending the unit back for a replacement.
Mine too freezes - but only when there's activity on the SD card (i.e. removing/installing) with power on. The first few days that I had it I was constantly pulling the card out to watch what I'd recorded. Several times I had to use the reset button. But, after it got a little more commonplace, I stopped checking and it's run like a top ever since. Please let us know how the return process goes.
Wow, that's unreal. Maybe demand has picked up? When I contacted them it was before the unit was in production. I'd asked them for a "sample" and when it finally became available, the $90+25 was the 'sample' price. Maybe if you tell them you're considering buying in bulk and may become a distributor? I actually considered it.
Well it was too good to be true :) I'll just have to pay the bigger price, but first I would like to get the quote for F500HD... they still haven't replied.
Gloria has a skype account - there's a link on their website. She seems to be very responsive on that - but you have to get online around 8-9P EST to get a hold of her.
Yes, that's the same one. Contact gaond (dot com) through their website. I paid $90 for the camera and $25 for shipping to get it to the US in about 5 days. They required wire transfer, though.. just a heads up. Went w/o a hitch. Maybe they do paypal? Look up the F500HD. It records 1920x1080, 30FPS making this one look like SD, not HD. I like the 2mm lens on this one better though - wide-angle. The F500HD is sold by dod-tec(dot com).
I did look at the F500HD but I really want a wider angled lens.
Most of the close calls I've had so far are idiots pulling out of a junction to the side, or people pulling out onto roundabouts. I'd worry that the F500HD would miss this without a wider angle.
Do you know if it's possible to change the lens?
Could you do me a huge favour and upload another video of the HD720P is heavier traffic so I have a better idea of the quality, etc. Can it read licence plates?
I'll do that later today. Just get on me if I forget or if it's not up by the end of the day.
Just remember, the wider the lens, the less clarity and more distortion you have. the 5f00HD is good enough to read tags of oncoming cars! But like you said, it's only a 60° view. The HD720P is 155°, but no, you cannot read tags - unless you're less than 3' away from their bumper. That's why I run with BOTH! Simple fix. and at $100 a piece, cheaper than any custom system.
I saw on the DOD website that they do a "wide conversion lens" as an optional extra for the F500HD; do you know what kind of difference that would make?
Also, have you managed to fix the vibration/stability issues with the F500?
A lot of the sample videos on youtube look quite wobbly, as if the mount isn't very stable.
The stock internal lens is 7mm. The conversion kit is 4mm - so it's better. But according to Gloria (at DOD), you "sticky it" on the front. I'm in FL, and the dash sun/heat is intense and I can't image the sticky lasting too long. Vibration reduced by changing the mount position so the camera is also touching headliner. Lens mount is a standard 1/3" mount, but the focus length is non standard. i tried replacing it w/a 2mm lens, but it wouldn't focus.
I contacted gaond and they've quoted me $120 for one unit, with $55.00 for shipping to the UK. That's $175 in total!
Seems very excessive compared to what you paid. I think that's pretty much ruled out the DVR-007 for me. I'm still waiting to hear back from DOD about the F500HD.
Hey, is this camera called "HD720P Portable DVR-007 Car Camera 2.5 inch TFT LCD Screen"? How do you like it? Is it reliable (doesn't "freeze" during long recording duration)? Thanks!
And quality is OK... not stellar, but this is one of those things that you install, and after the first month of playing around with it, you forget it's even there... which is how you want it to be...
First hiccup with the device

@airgreek
How long did you have it before it died? I'm actually quite happy with the replacement - it has worked well for the past 3 months now.

Wow, that is very good quality.
What do you think of it so far?
Could you look at ebay item number: 170460394123 and tell me if it's the same device?
It looks identical but with a different name.
Also, what's the build quality like? I don't want it to break after a month.
