  • ken just curious. Is this thing easy to use and figure out sounds you might like?

  • specifically, do you think the xtsa works well with the gr55? I am about to get both so I need to know if it is just better to use the gk3 pickup on my Ibanez ag95. or use an xtsa. Thanx for your help

  • @uriahsmusic Yes and no. It works better and worse than the GK-3 in some ways. I feel that the tracking might be slightly better on the XTSA, but you will get more ghost notes with it to. The RMC pickup on the XTSA picks up extra subsonic frequencies that trigger unwanted notes. This is not a problem for me as I mostly use the PCM sounds for Pad/String sounds and it's a problem with percussive sounds like piano and drums.

  • @uriahsmusic There is a product called the OPT-1 subsonic filter that eliminates this. It's made by RMC I think. It's about $165. Overall, I don't think you need the XTSA is you like your guitar now. The GK-3 will do just fine. I hope that helps.

  • I have a question. Can you still use your amp head distortion or clean channel while going through the gr 55? Like being able to bypass it I guess is what I am asking.

  • @movinon6161 Yes, there is actually a totally separate guitar output if you want the guitar signal untouched. And another stereo out with the synth sounds. So you could go Guitar out to your amp and mono or stereo out with synth sounds to the PA or another amp.

  • Hey Kennis thanks for the helpful videos you have posted on this great unit. I actually bought this product a few weeks ago based on your review. I'm also in a worship group in my church and am fairly new to all this gear stuff and don't quite understand it all. You were showing how you could assign the expression pedal to play a clean acoustic guitar sound and then slowly introduce an electric guitar sound, that was pretty cool. Do you think you could explain how that was done? Any help with

  • @Godssupersoldier777 Sure, I actually have a 4 part tutorial of the gr-55 on my youtube channel. Make sure and watch those videos. They will answer many of your questions. If you still can figure it out, let me know. But I show how I did that in the video.

  • Hi Kennis :)

First of all...thank You very very much for this great video.

I'd like to buy a GR-55 but I already have a BOSS GT-10 guitar processor and, to be honest, I didn't use it very much (except for a couple of clean, overdrive and lead sound).

I thought about the possibility to sell GT-10 and replace it with single pedal effects, in conjunction with the GR-55. What do Yout think about It?

    Cheers :)

  • @sbenzardo The GR-55 basically has a GT-10 built into it. You would not even need another pedal other than the GR-55. You are right though, selling it and putting the money toward a GR-55 is a great idea.

  • @kennisrussell That's a good news Kennis. Can't wait to put my hands on a GT55

    Thanks a lot :)

  • @sbenzardo Cool. It really is a great unit.

  • @kennisrussell No doubt about it...I've seen several videos on Youtube and It's really astonishing

  • Hiya Kennis! First off...Thanks so much for spending the time in posting these Demo's, Your giving me all the Info I need, and I feel the GR55 may be right for me! I just wonder how quick the tracking is? Particulary on the lower 'E' string? I've owned and used the GR700 + 707 since the 80's and although It tracks reasonably well on high strings, the Low strings have quite a Delay before the note is sounded! How does the GR55 compare? Thanks for the Vid's Fella! Russ

  • @russonagoodday I have never used the Gr700 or 707 so I can't compare directly, but from everything I have read the tracking on the GR-55 is the best out there. Also, I have not noticed any delay or latency at all. I would not be concerned about the tracking. I hope that helps.

  • I have a Boss DS-1 stomp box and SansAmp-TRI-A.C. that I still wanna use.

Can I have Routing like this :

    Guitar > Boss DS-1 > GR-55 > SansAmp-TRI-A.C. > Amp

Because as I know the output of GK-3 is not a mono jack, and I just wanna have a distortion b4 the Delay in the GR-55 besides using it synth..

    Thx B4

  • @eduardohendrianta Maybe, If you ran a chord from guitar to your pedals, then into the GK-3. They GK-3 comes with a short patch chord that just runs up to the GK-3 from the output jack of the guitar. I guess you can, but would be a lot of chords coming to and from guitar. But to be honest, you will be able to find just as good of distortion sound in the GR-55 as the DS-1. I had a bunch of high end pedals that I no longer use and don't miss after I got the GR-55. GR-55 out to sansamp, no prob.

  • now all I need is 900$!

  • @Jungleboy867 lol

  • Thumbs up if you looked at your iphone @ 6:34 thinking you'd gotten a text message!

  • @pugdealer82 Almost, It did distract me, but my phone was across the room.

  • HI mr russel,,how r u?how s it going with u dude?u said me before about ghost note and super sonic!!!i dont know about SUPERSONIC,,,what is is exactly?and u know im From iran,,and how i can buy this super sonic,,or can i buy something similar to super sonic?TYYYY FOR EVERY THING:-x

  • @chromatic735 They are when the pickup reads notes that you did not want it to pick up. They are not a good thing and my guitar with the RMC pickup is bad about it. I get a lot of ghost notes sometimes. The GK-3 Pickup that comes with the GR-55 is better at eliminating ghost notes. I hope that helps.

  • @kennisrussell hi again mr russel,,,ty so much about ur tips...i have GK 3 pickup,,and i installed it on PRS custom24.(INTERNAL)some times i feel those ghost notes ,for example when i use piano patches,,i have a lot of ghost notes,i saw some thing called SUPER SONIC...and some one installed it into Gr 55,,what is that?is it necsesery or not?and u know im form iran,,if i must put that super sonic on my gr

  • @kennisrussell how i can buy it?and if i cant buy super sonic,,what is similar to super sonic ?istead of super sonic?again sorry my english not well,,sorry about that,,love ur videos and tipes,,ur bestt mr russel:-x:-x

  • for more cheep get( you rock guitar midi controller) go fl studio same thing lol

  • @hto1971 Good to know. Thanks for the post

  • Is it possible to use GR 55 using my guitar to play the Cakewalk Studio instruments ?

  • @wagnerrangel I believe so, but don't have Cakewalk, so I'm not 100% sure.

  • anyone uses this with softsynths for midi? i feel like a whole new world there!

  • @Phazur I use the Soft synth sound every week live at church. It does make a world of difference.

  • Hi kennis

your videos are great. GR 55 is very good guitar synth. As i am from India benjo sound seems not like real Benjo as i heared in indian songs. So please explain how can i make real banjo patch.

  • @rohitasoren True, to me the banjo does not sound too real to me either, but could sound more real with editing it in the GR-55. I am not a banjo player and not sure how to make it sound better though. But more editing can be done to fine tune it.

  • Great video Kennis. I have the same system and Godin guitar. They work well together. I like the convenience of having the built in system for guitar synth. Keep up the good work. God Bless!!

  • @zionguitar It's great isn't it. I love it. Thanks for the comment.

  • I figuered it out, one has to close the player and then change patches as for MiDi functions they are not working as they did with GR20, unless the is a trick.?

  • one more quetion. On my Roland GR20 I was able to use(control) it's sounds through MIDI input using an external keyboard. Can midi be used in this context or they just simply made it to swich patches?

    Thanks a lot!

  • Great and helpfull videos. Thank you for your time. My question, is it possible to play audio player and during a playback swich paches, and if yes, please how?

    Thanks again

  • @tenellifranco Yes, Once you start the player, the unit switches the same. I have not actually done it though, but the roland demo's seem to be doing it that way.

  • What kind of Batteries and how much of them do i need ?...or r the batteries within the package i ordered ?

  • @UltimateCeroBlast No batteries. Needs to use the wall plug.

  • i have a problem with the alt- tuning function. i wanted too tune my guitar in drop a , but it sounds like a doubled sound . pls help me

  • @JunkyTKorn It will not tune you actual guitar, that would be impossible. Just the COSM and PCM sounds.

  • so you said you are a worship leader.. well our church is planting another church and i'm the worship leader there, plus I play lead/rhythm/=power chords and alot of filling to help bring the music together so would this be a great choice for what i play?

  • @TheCarpenteris1 Yes! it is very versatile and has great sounds. It does take a while to get used to programming your own sounds though. So if you are not good at learning effects units, then no. But the sounds yes and if you are pretty good at tech stuff, yes.

  • surely better to use midi out to control a decent synth

  • Your Roland KC 150 looks sturdy. My 30 y/o beginner amp can't take bass sounds from the gr55 any more. Can the KC150 take all of the gr-55 sounds including -2, -3 octave resos as well as a real bass guitar?

Also, please do more vids. You have really flattened the learning curve a lot!!!

  • @97yawnac I'm playing through a KC-500. The KC-150 is a great amp too. Yes, it will handle all the sounds well. The KC-500 or 550 will get more bass response, simply because it has a bigger speaker, but any of Rolands KC series keyboard amps will work great. Any keyboard amp should be able to handle the sound, but I particularly like the KC series.

  • Kennis, could you you do a vid on how to edit & move patches from one location to another, so you can put them in order for live gigs.

Also, i use the piano patches a lot, is there anyway you can go up +2 octaves with the simple press of a button (without changing patch).

    Thanks in advance! Martin. =)

  • @martinavizcomm Good idea for a vid. Thanks. Yes, you should be able to assign a pitch shift to the CTL Button or the Exp pedal.

  • I noticed this has the option of buying a custom pickup with it. What is the advantage of having it, seems like you can do quite a bit without it.

  • @PicciProductions You must have the GK-3 Pickup to use the GR-55 or a 13-pin pickup installed on your guitar. I have a 13-pin PU installed in my guitar so I don't need the GK-3, but 99% of guitars are going to need the GK-3.

  • Ken, regarding the glitch sound when switching patches - I think a fellow could simply ride the volume pedal BACK on the synth while keeping the natural string sound. It'll no doubt be something Roland will address up the road. How about running a sample and hold function while you switch patches. In any event - like you said - It'll all take some getting used to. I'm getting one for use in a "House-of-Prayer" setting. Looking forward to the final 75% of the review.

  • @Dialoquese The glitch literally stops all sound for a spit second. You can't ride any sound at all when switching patches.

  • good review duu

  • @aragon667 Thanks

  • OMG I wish I had about 800 clams!

  • @DylanFanification I know. I had to save and sell a bunch of stuff to get mine.

  • My friend purchased the GR 55 today and is getting bad bad tracking errors now due, his set up is Gopdin with Piezzo pick up...

He also has set and re re re re re checked sensitivity and all other probs, can anyone advise pleaee...ROLAND should be informing customers aboput these issues.

    awaiting answer asap,

    thanks

    Alan McElroy

    Glasgow

    purchased from GG Digital today.

  • @Yahoomediaclub I had some tracking issues too. I turned my sensitivity all the way down to like 5. Could probably go even further down. There is a guy that makes an internal adapter to the GR-55 that takes care of all subsonic problems. It's called the OPT-01 by Richard McClish. I'm considering putting one in mine.

  • What program you use to record on-screen PIP (picture in picture)?

  • @GuitaLoveSongs Sony Vegas

  • I was wondering if you need the GK3 pickup to use this. I have a Fender Stratocaster with a standard pickup. Thanks

  • @speedygland Yes, you need the GK-3 to use the GR-55. Or a built in 13-pin pickup. Standard 1/4 inch jack will not hook up to the GR-55

  • Wow! 40,000 views! Thanks everyone for watching!

  • My gosh thank you for shedding some light on how this processor works!!! im completely drawn by it n now i wanna buy it now that i know its pretty simple to use and extremely effective as well! thanks once again and please keep the videos coming!!!

  • @TieFan121461 You are welcome and thanks for the great comment.

  • l like Parker MIDI MOJO,,The Yellow one,i think its so nice,,but i never played with this guitar before,,its about 6000$,,u know i want a guitar witch has Gk3 build inside.cause i like this mojo parker,,what do u think?its to much for paying?or not?say me some guitar brand and models,,ty so much again..

  • @chromatic735 I'm actually not too familiar with the Parker guitars. I just have not had a chance to play a lot of them and have never owned one. I know they are great instruments though. I personally like my guitar a lot. The Godin XTSA. To me $6000 is a ton of money to spend on a guitar. I would prefer to spend the money on killer equipment to go with it. If you are playing the GR-55, you need a good keyboard amp for it.

  • @chromatic735 Also, if you get a Godin, or any built in piezo 13 pin pickup. I would buy the OPT-01 Subsonic filter that you can install in the GR-55 which helps eliminate ghost notes. That is what I recommend anyway. I hope it helps.

  • Ty Mr russel..i want to play Modern Rock like Andy timmons, joe satriani and etc..i want to change my Equipment too,i want to buy new amp,,i have line 6 flextone 3,,but its not a tube amps,,about 5000$ or less ,,i dont know ,,u know what i want to play for whole my life,i want to buy a guitar witch has Warm tone,,and 1 question, can u say how much different beetwen DSL & TSL amps?again ty for ur help mr russel

  • Hi Mr russel,,i find a problem,,problem was my cable witch connect between Gk3 pick and my guitar pick ups,,i rechange the cable,,now its working good,,Tnx for all ur tips and helps,,god bless on u bro:-x,,Mr russel can u say some site can help me to buy a guitar,,u think parker is better or Prs guitar or music man?again ty for all ur tips:-x

  • @chromatic735 Good, I'm glad were able to fix the problem. Which guitar is better is hard to say. What kind of style of music are you wanting to play and how much money are you willing to spend?

  • Hi. I was thinking of buying the vg99. But now I have come across this new gr55. I'm not a great techy, but can you tell me the difference between these two? Are they two different things with completely different purposes? I like to play music like Angels and Airwaves and U2 so it would be cool to see you make a video on delay +phaser+flanger. That kind of new metal sound. Great video btw!

  • @afy300 Basically, either one you would be able to get the sound you are wanting. They main difference is the VG-99 is for modeling amps and guitars called COSM modeling. You can select just about any guitar ever made (plus create some that would be physically impossible to make) and select just about any amp and it will sound very realistic. Also has built in effects. The GR-55 is a Guitar Synth, so you can layer 2 keyboard sound + your normal guitar, + COSM.

  • @afy300 Basically, the GR-55 has 90% of a VG-99 built into it. The VG-99 interface is a bit more simple and has knobs to adjust the parameters which makes some things much easier. But the GR-55 is an absolutely amazing machine. I recommend them both, but if you only got one, get the GR-55. Hope that helps.

  • hi again mr russell ty for this tips..,,i try PEDAL/GK CTL center its working with MIX positon,,i mean i here my normal pick up sound and modeling,,but quastion is i cant still use GUITAR switch on Gk,,in Gr20 3 position on Gk work very well but in my Gr 55 its not,,i saw one of ur videos,,i saw u switch all ur 3 Gk selector with ur Goddin..pcm,,mix and guitar,,i think maybe i must have a guitar witch one has Gk inside of guitar,,

  • @chromatic735 Yes, the switch should work on the GK-Pickup. Are you using the GK-3 Pickup or do you have one built into your guitar? Also, have you posted a questions on vguitarforums. com?

  • great review thanks! but for the record the GK pickup doesnt have 6 humbuckers in it. It has 6 separate midi pickups in it its what is called a divided pickup.

  • @Bflatest Thanks

  • at the end,,i cant have this 4 sound together,i just have pcm 1..pcm2,,Modeling...i dont have My normal pick up sound,,whats the problem?if any one knows about this plz tell me,,Ty so much:-x

  • @chromatic735 I found this on vguitarforums. com. Try this...

    1) Go to System

    PEDAL/GK CTL (enter)

    Tab over to VOL

If you want to be able to hear the normal guitar when your switch is in the "GUITAR" position, change GK VOL to "TONE VOLUME", and turn NORMAL PU "OFF". With the switch in MIX, you'll hear both the GK knob output, and your normal guitar output, with independent control for each. In GK position, you'll just hear COSM/PCM sounds, and in GUITAR, just the normal guitar.

  • @chromatic735 I also found this.

Hearing Your Normal (Guitar) Pickup Signal

If you want to hear your guitar's original pickup sound in the GR-55, you need to activate the NORMAL PICKUP switch within each patch. Here's how.

    1. Choose a patch to edit.

    2. Press the EDIT button.

    3. Press PAGE left until you select the TONE menu.

    4. Press the down-cursor button to select NORMAL PICKUP.

    5. Turn the dial to highlight the NORMAL PICKUP box.

    6. Set the GK select switch to the MIX position.

  • yes i use my amp,,its Flextone 3,,1 question ..its imposible to use this GR with any kind of guitar Pick ups?my pick is EMG active,,but when i plug the jack into left mono i cant use 3swith of GK,,i mean i can hear GK,,I can hear,,I can Hear Mix ,,but I CANT here the Guitar sound in my own pick up!!,i select Normal pick up in options but still i cant here my own guitar sound

  • You can just use your amp and still have the synth sounds, right? I am a little confused on that.

  • @sonichackman1 Yes. You can use your normal amp. They best amps for it are keyboard amps though. Or solid state guitar amps. Tube amps to me don't sound as good with the GR-55 because the PCM sounds are going through it too. You can also send PCM sounds to one amp and your guitar to another amp.

  • sorry about my english,,its not good,,:)Help me:(..I dont think its like this,,so what i must doing exactly to fix this problem,,for example u cant fix Normal Guitar sound with Pcm or play a line hust with NORMAL GUITAR SOUND and after switch to PCm and then Mix,,its imposible with my situation,,Ty for reading,,if u can help plzzz:)..Ty so mch

  • Hi mr russell..Ty so much for posting this things..im so sad mr russell,,im from iran and i got this GR-55,,But i really like it,,BUUT i cant undrestand 1 thing..I cant hear NORMAL PICK UP SOUND in my own guitar;During normal using Gr 55,,WHy like this???why i cant hear any thing ,,when i Switch GK in GUITAR..No sound come out..:(((..Gr 20 Gk sswitch work well,,,And When i put my jack into GUITAR OUT i didnt hear Pcm sounds,,plzzzzzzz Hellllllllp mee,,its make me so fucked up..again ty :-x

  • @chromatic735 The same thing happened to me. I think there was a problem with the GK settings. Go into the GK settings and mess with the settings. Also, post the question on vguitarforums. com. They are very great at hard questions. I bet someone has even asked it before. Let me know if that works, if not, let me know.

  • yes i like it, thanks for all demos, they helpt a lot :)

  • @maxxyporky No problem. I'm glad you help.

  • Hey Kennis, I'm actually interested in purchasing the GR-55 (mainly for the altered tunings and multiple sounds you can create in one sound) but I was wondering if this synthesizer includes a sustainer? I know the GR-20 has that function (the Hold pedal) where you could hold down a chord, for example, and play a solo or melody over it.

  • @3DDFanatic I don't have it in front of me, but I believe (like 90% sure, but have not done it myself yet) you can assign the CTR foot pedal to be a HOLD pedal. It does not have a dedicated HOLD button like the GR-20 though. You can also get a midi foot controller and assign up to 9 different foot pedal functions. Check with vguitarforums. com and they will know for sure.

  • Hey Man, THank a lot for this video, very useful. I am interested in unique synthesis, i'm not too bothered about piano sounds or violins etc because i'd rather just use the real thing for that. My Question is what are the synth capabilities of this thing? Does it have Oscillators, LFOS' envelopes and Filters? Does it have an arpegiator or pattern matrix? Or is this just full of standard synth-stye presets? I don't like the sound of easy edit - i'm really looking for a proper synth

  • yes i soo al your videos, put of kouse i shud tseck out more dhis editing and greating video so thanks agen :) and sorry my english, i never earn that in scool so i can not write korrektly :)

  • @maxxyporky Thanks

  • Hey great videos, I have a couple of questions. There is no straight guitar input in the Gr-55 right? I'm kind of an analog effects person, however I could definitely use the sounds like organ, strings, etc

I wanted to ask you do you know what is the model that precedes the gr-55? is it the gr-20? I was thinking on getting the 20 for the specific sounds, etc and plug it straight to a PA, and keep my guitar sound through my amp.

  • @ciccioliable I totally understand about analog effects. I have about $1000 of effects sitting on my shelf since I started using the GR-55. Sometimes I miss them.

Anyway, yes the GR-20 is the predecessor to the GR-55. It's a good unit. Basically the GR-55 has 2 PCM sounds (Organ, strings) 1 COSM, and 1 Normal guitar with effects. The GR-20 has just 1 PCM. It sounds like that would work for you cause you don't need the COSM and effects of the GR-55. Let me know if you have other questions.

  • thanks for good infotmation,im now fresh oner of this unut ;)

  • @maxxyporky You are welcome. I know you will love it. Make sure to go through my 4 part tutorial of the GR-55. It will help editing sounds a lot. Also, I had a few questions that I just could not figure out and the website vguitarforums. com is a great site for the GR-55. They helped a lot. I recommend checking it out.

  • Thanks a lot for your selfless input on the pedal, its of great help, and actually was what caused me to put one on order a few days ago, thanks. But heres a question: Does the pedal come with a midi pickup? If not, how restricted is the library of effects you can access with it? Would I be correct to assume you can access all effects except for the synthesizer effects? Thanks a lot.

  • @arkireW Awesome, I know you will love it. Usually the pedal does come with the GK-3 pickup, which you have to have to use the GR-55. They do sell it without, but most places don't carry the one without. Check your order to make sure it says with GK-3 pickup. There is no way to use the GR-55 without a 13-pin pickup, so make 100% sure. There is actually no way to hook up just a 1/4 inch guitar jack to it, so no without it you cannot access anything. I hope that helps.

  • Can Roland GR-55 do transpose job?

  • @dummybass Yes, It can transpose and do alt tunings. It does not transpose the normal pickup, just the COSM and PCM sounds. Hope that helps.

  • @kennisrussell Thanks buddy.

  • sir russell, what i mean, when you see the tone category TONE,EFFECT,MASTER & SYSTEM,one of this category i press, and then inside thers a number from1 to 100 it's working when you press the volume pedal, ,(not in the main monitor) thank you so much, i know also what you mean, you can see that in the main monitor in the left corner,,, normally its not working when you press the pedal..hope you can help me,,hi there.......!

  • i remember last 2 months ago,, inside the LCD of the GR55 theres a number (0-100) it's working when you press the volume padal, i don't know what happened why it's gone, thank you so much sir.

  • A muddled demo. Does he understand how it works?

  • @peterdsalmon What do you mean?

  • hello my good sir and friend,, i really need your help about this gr55,, 'last time inside the lcd of the gr55 you can see the volume level number monitor,, when you press the pedal so you can see the volume level from 0-100 it's working,, because almost 2mths i didn't use this effects, that's why i don't remember,, so now almost 4days i don't know where to find..can you give me a tip?

  • @joel1974ful The volume level of the patch is in the edit screen on the top left corner. Is that what you mean? You can set the volume pedal to adjust the overall volume as well. Go into the GK/CRTL in Master tab. There you can set what the EX pedal does and what sounds it turns up and down. Is that what you meant? If not, let me know.

  • Can you make an overview of the Godin xtSA as well? Great review of the GR-55 Thanks and blessings.

  • @anointed01 Yes, I will be doing an overview this week. Stay tuned.

  • Nice demo, thanks! What brand of guitar du you use on here?

  • @carlerrh I'm using a Godin XTSA. Great guitar! I'll be doing a review of it shortly.

  • Can I have more insight about gk pickup. I Have a korg pa50 and I want my guitar to use midi sound of the keyboard. Can I use this pickup as an interphase between my acoustic guitar and korg keyboard

  • @dezinerAhmad Not the pickup alone. It's not a "Midi" pickup. In other words, it will not direclty plug into your Korg. You will need a GR-55 or other GR Synth, or Axiom product (not familiar with Axiom, but they can do it too) with midi outs in order to have your guitar transfer the sound to miid. The GR-55 will do it no problem. But not just the pickup alone. Hope that helps.

  • Very nicely explained

  • @dezinerAhmad Thanks.

  • I'm looking for something on this but I can't find anything. How about whammy bar effects and other such effects like those of a regular processor ? I'm seriously considering getting one of these (not that I'm really good with my guitar) but I'd like to know how much of an all-in-one it is.

  • @Azakhiel I have not used a whammy pedal, are you talking about an effect like the Digitech Whammy? If so, there is a pitch bend effect where you can set how high or low you want it to go. Like 2 octaves up when you use the pedal on the right. I have not really played around with it, and am not sure how it compares to other effects, I'm not to familiar with it. Sorry I could not be more helpful, Go to vguitarforums. com and ask on that site. They will 100% know.

  • I have the axon & the same guitar you're using in the video. Does this track as well as the axon?

  • @nickrella You know I have never had the opportunity to play with an Axon. I have heard a lot of great things about it, but I don't know. I recommend asking the question on vguitarforums . com. Those guys know a ton, and would be able to answer that question better than me.

  • Hi there, I'm a bassist. I would like to ask you. Can I use the GR 55 for the bass? Thanks

  • Comment removed

  • @AngelM158 yes you can use it for bass

  • @AngelM158 Yes you can, but you need to get the GK-3B pickup for your guitar. I have heard they are on back order right now (Not verified). But the Gk-3 that it comes with in the store will not work. Needs the GK-3B for Bass. I hope to get a GK-3B soon because I know I can come up with some awesome sounds for bass.

  • @kennisrussell Thanks for the highly informative demo! Will the GR-55 allow you to sample sounds and then use them like ones that are already stored in the unit? For example, if I wanted to turn a Mellotron string sound into something I could play with a guitar, does the GR-55 allow that, or would I have to add an additional piece to it?

  • I meant pick ups by the way when I said pick.

  • @Thermontage My guitar has a built in 13 pin pickup (Called a Piezo RMC) in it. This takes the place of the 13 pin GK-3 tht you have to install. It has nothing to do with EMG's or any other brand of pickups. Normal guitar pickups will not work with this unit. You have to use a 13 pin pickup in order to hook anything up into it.

Is that what you were asking? If not, please let me know.

  • @kennisrussell I see...that makes sense. Thank you for responding. By the way, your videos are quite informative and helpful. Keep up the good work!

  • @Thermontage No problem and thanks. Feel free to ask me any questions.

  • I was wondering how you were able to get the guitar itself without the pick to work because my guitar needs the pick to work. I have EMG pick ups. Is it because those are not compatible?

  • Kenny, how can I get the USB Audio Player to read my generic 4GB WAV files. I get a (no data found message)?

  • @MrAsharpBflat I have not used the USB Audio player yet. I recommend going to vguitarforums . com and asking the question there. They will be able to answer your question without any problem probably. Sorry I can't be of more help.

  • Thank you Kennis for you time and patience in making these videos. They are a great insight into this remarkable piece of kit. Can you tell me if there is anythiing that resemble a 'lyre' sound in there? Many thanks.

  • @Corinth6 I think so. I had to make a Lyre sound... I would use the COSM Nylon string guitar and adjust the setting to make it sound more like a Lyre, then I would use the alternate tuning to change each string to the lyre pitches. I hope that helps.

  • from all i've heard, the GT10 is complicated enough (esp. compared to the ridiculously simple RP1000), besides, how practical is it to have a guitar sounding like a synthesizer, esp if you can just have a guitar "and" an actual synthesizer/keyboards? Is it for the sake of saving space or money then? But everything Roland is high-end anyway, so that would seem pointless. And another thing - if Roland makes Boss then why is Boss so much less expensive if the sound is so smilar?

  • @Voitcu Some good questions. I like having all of everything I need in one unit. For me it has worked. Boss vs Roland. It seems to me like most of the multi effects they like the GR-55, GT-8, VG-99 fall under the Roland brand name and the smaller individual effects like delays, loopers, distortion, ect fall under the Boss name. I think that is there marketing plan.

  • Frank Zappa said it best,,, "SHUT UP AND PLAY YOUR GUITAR"

  • Great demo!

Are you plugged into your amp?

  • @29396 No, not in this video. The GR-55 is recorded out of the headphone jack into the camera. I have found that the best amp to use with it is my Roland KC500 Keyboard amp. Keyboard amps are great with the GR-55 because they have a very wide frequency response and don't break like a tube amp. I LOVE tube amps, but I don't want all of my sounds to break up and distort like strings and acoustic guitar. In a live setting I usually play through the PA directly out of the GR-55.

  • love how ur worship leader bro!

  • @dan122189 Thanks. This unit have been great for praise and worship.

  • @kennisrussell how do you find the multieffects part?, I mean with the normal guitar pickups, let's say, do they match the quality of the GT10, for example?

    Thanks..

  • @guidopereira Multi effects sound good. I am kind of a gear guy and love having a lot of pedals and stuff. Since I have had the GR-55 I have not used my pedals hardly at all. They are the same sounds as the GT-10, but harder to use. The GT-10 is more user friendly. So you could get the same sounds, just have to spend more time doing it. Hope that helps you.

  • @kennisrussell thanks!. I love to use pedal and racks as well, but it's difficult to use them on small stages.. That's why I use the line 6 POD X3 live for now, and for that reason I was thinking in the GR 55. Some demos on the internet doesn't sound that great! I agree that the GT10 is more intuitive, is a lot easier to program. I Don't have any problem to spend some time programming anyway..

  • @kennisrussell have you tried to run your stompboxes before or after it? It would be interesting to listen to that. I mean to reinforce the multi effects part, to use an external distortion stompbox, just wondering about that...

  • @kennisrussell You're doing a great job here! Can you show us a normal pickups guitar, withouth piezo or the gk installed, directly to an amp, to hear the overdrives and distortion parts? some friends and I are looking forward it! hehe.

    Thanks kennis.

  • good review very comprehensive

  • @Bon0 Thanks, that means a lot.

  • So wait, does this mean I need to have a 13 pin input installed into my guitar in order to use this at all?

  • @AllHailHelms Yes, there is not even a 1/4 inch input jack on the unit. 100% need the 13 pin pickup.

  • "You can wipe it clean and start from ground zero"

    They sure did.

  • @bonchasilark I love being able to create my perfect sound on this thing!

  • @kennisrussell use a pick next time.. it makes a big diff with the sound quality difference...

  • @XxicruffesionalxX I am using a pick in this video.

  • @kennisrussell ok then is the pickups .. were u on the neck pickup when u were in the distortion part?

  • @kennisrussell um do u have harmony effects tho.. and whammy?

  • Nice overview, mine ahould arrive tomorrow and oddly enough, I have a Godin XTSA also! Great guitar and looking forward to the new sounds in the 55 since I have an old GR-50 and GI-20 that I've used. Love the GI-20 since soft synths like the M1 have gotten so affordable and play great from my Godin.

  • @brianmi40 I really like it. I have only played the GR-20 before the 55. Seems to me like it is two Gr-20s plus more. I think you will really like it. Let me know what you think of it when you get it. And thanks for the complement.

  • @kennisrussell your videos are great! I find them really helpfull, I still have doubts about the gr 55. I'm a pro player and I don't want to compromise my sound. I'd like to contact you via email, if that wouldn't be a problem!

    Thank you!

PD. Already suscribed to your channel :)

  • @harley0husky Thanks. It's not for everyone. Thanks for commenting

  • Oh Rats! I wanted to use this as an effects unit for non 13 pin guitars. I just read that it only accepts the 13 pin input. I have two of those guitars but was hoping that it would be usable with other 1/4" jack guitars.
