  • Just another reason to keep pirating music. It's shit anymore anyways.

  • @tjrtherocksponge De Mastering seems to be a more accurate term. BUY VINYL!!!

  • What song is this?

  • @TheDuckster33 not sure, i only got the video from website that educate about loudness war. But that was almost 3 years ago, even i forgot already the name of the website.

p/s: if there are any user out there who know the original website which is this video originated from, kindly reply to me. Thank you.

  • @SymphonyOfDestruct99 It's my video; I made it several years ago. The original is still on YouTube: 3Gmex_4hreQ . You probably would have found the HQ version on Digital Domain (digido), the web site of mastering engineer Bob Katz who was nice enough to host it for me a few years ago. I also have an explanation on data vs. dynamic compression on my channel. Thanks, -Matt

  • @LoudnessWar I see. Sorry for stealing your video. At that time i just want to share it to everybody.

  • @SymphonyOfDestruct99 No problem. When I put it together I had no idea it would get big, and I used copyrighted music (in good faith as under Fair Use), so it is not legal for me to make any money or anything off it. I'm just glad people find it helpful. I'd appreciate if you would put a link in the description to the LoudnessWar YouTube page, though. Thanks for being cool about it.

  • @TheDuckster33

have a look at the titles at the end ;]

  • @TheDuckster33 The name of the song is "Figure Of Eight" by Paul McCartney.

Name of the album: Flowers In The Dirt, 1989 (when Linda was still alive - R.I.P.)

Other famous songs of that album: My Brave Face, Put It There, This One, and more...

  • Am I the only one to think that rappers are the only ones with the best dynamics nowadays?

  • This is "dynamic range compression" (lessening "volume contrast") and is different from "data compression."

(MP3 commonly uses "data compression," and it does not necessarily distort the volume/loudness.)

Any digital sound data can have its "volume contrast" lessened and NOT be "data compressed." And vice versa.

  • Guess that explains the weird drums on rock radio. I thought it was only because of mp3 compression.

  • My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is clipped so much that I think even I can do a better job at mastering. It's like the mastering engineer used leveler/limiter for everything. But the runaway film and GOOD Friday versions aren't clipped as bad as the album version.

  • Take off that damn blurb at the beginning of the video. Endgame suffers from the loudness war more terribly than any of Megadeth's remastered albums, and that's really saying a lot.

The clipping on the album is atrocious.

  • @TheRimeOfIcarus u right i just realized that, our nation pressing have lower loudness maybe due to the defective process in manufacturing.

  • @tjrtherocksponge what is the name of website that store database of music loudness? i forgot the name, used to check new CD loudness and dynamic range on that website.

  • Do anybody knows who is the artist of the 1989 recording in this clip?

  • @Gemelo1080p Dude, it's at the end of the damn video...

  • This is part of the reason that big label music must die. Don't even get me started on mp3. The super cd never even hit the market. If your are an audio engineer our world is going stupid. Consoles are going to start coming out with a "suck" button. Just push it to make it really loud.

  • @91musicmaster You're not upsetting me. I'm enjoying this discourse. So, you're saying that people are different, and I agree. Diversity is very important. Diverse opinions are important, so don't you think the tonality of a sound wave should have that same diversity? Over-Compression is a form of audio "bigotry" Gotcha there. (-: You see, not everything is subjective. Peace.

  • @91musicmaster I agree. There are good tools in the audio industry that can help boost signal without doing too much damage. Just like my makeup analogy. When a woman wears a tasteful amount of makeup, she looks good. If she wears too much, she looks like a clown, and I'm sure going to the circus is not her intention. (-:

  • @91musicmaster People get used to pollution too, doesn't mean it's good.

  • @91musicmaster Well, I'm not a conservative, just moderate, and many young kids agree with me. If you want to listen to shitty music that literally has the essential life squished out of it, by all means go ahead. You have to learn that some things in life are not relative or based on opinion. Sometimes an expression or song or feeling actually sucks or it doesn't. In other words, not everything in life is subjective. Overcompression sucks just like women who wear too much makeup.

  • @91musicmaster I'll agree that some compression has it's use, but for me to explain to you why dynamics is good. That's like explaining why you don't want someone shouting at you all the time while having a conversation with them. Yes, music needs to be dynamic or else you can't listen to an entire album or CD without ear fatigue. That's just the physical side of it. The philosophical side sees the importance of highs and lows, while musically you want diverse tonality. It's elementary.

  • @91musicmaster Compression only sucks bad when you have shitty equipment. Studios that have 100's of thousands of dollars of equipment, yeah, it's gonna sound better. However, as a musician and sound engineer, I'll tell you that any amount of compression/saturation takes away from the original in some amount of sacrificed punch and clarity, and I don't like sacrificing the dynamic qualities just so the audio can flex some macho volume increase. It truly is a wimpy sacrifice.

  • WHAT MUSIC

     IS THIS IT SOUND GOOD?

  • Ahhh I hate all the people who listen to music on crap 10 dollar earbuds. Its there fault that music is so compressed these days. Its too bad the ones who enjoy music the most are the ones who have to suffer

  • @StraightUPdizzle Yeah, music should be listen on a good pair of stereo with relaxing. Not by walking in public with some crappy mp3 player and crappy earbud.

  • Excellent example !

That is Horrific to think that we can't get good recorded music anymore....

  • i agree

  • Outstanding video. Thank you for posting this. This is so fundamental to the problems with over compression and non lossless music of today. I see it as the effect of the MP3 generation who listen to music on little earphones on their Ipods and the popularity of hip hop which really stresses the whole buzzing thumping bass sound. The over compression makes it louder not better. All the suttle aspects of the music are gone. frequencies chopped.

  • Great explanation! And over compression can add a harsh "digital hash" to the sound. If you took that non-compressed track above and cranked up the volume on a great stereo the drums would sound like they were in the room (window rattling) but it still would not seem too loud. But with a highly compressed track you never get there.

  • Yeah but i can't see these trend will end unless major record company or producer realize the effect of high compression of music.

  • Hasn't this video been uploaded before?

  • yeah, just want to spread it to my country as i can see people here love loud mp3 stuff.
