I had like 12 before I knew they were purposefully that way.

I knew they were called tattooed mollies, but I figured that was because their unusual markings looked like tattoos.

All mine had spots, and so did all the others in tank, so I figured it was natural...

I feel bad.

@pac6010 there are studies, they dissected many tattooed fish and found they died from organ failure, and their vital organs were ulcered, unlike in normal fish. yes you will get some fish that show no external signs of ill effects, but if you compare their insides to a normal fish you'll see quite the opposite.

lol i think they look like a child painted them but is it better for them to be tattooed an live? or be ate? since these arent big they more of a feeder fish in the wild. i wouldnt mind buying one if it said "eat me" or "i'm f'd" when i fed it to my turtle. also stickin a need in at birth cheerletter... is no different then a baby boy gettin circumsized

@pectwita I would love to see proof that it shortens the life span, how do you know this ? I have had fish with altered color before, they do lose that color fast (within months) but the fish seem to live on just fine. Unless you have an actual study that proves this I'm just gonna call it bs. Fish are shipped and die by the thousands in the boxes on the way someplace. These fish just get inked first and it doesn't kill them. Humans get tats all the time, I really don't see a difference.

I understand they don't choose it, but just like cattle or anything else we breed for a purpose these fish only exist to be pets. The tattoo process isn't much worse for the fish then on a human and although I'm sure some methods are hurtful and kill many fish. It can be done in a way that's not as bad and most of the fish come threw ok and alive.

I personally dont like the color on tattoed fish its just that i dont like white fish (not racist :) ) with colors like these they just look like fake and it also looks like a 6th grader painted or drew these on the fish. Plus its cruel i guess.... i mostly dont like the fish beause of color but cruel also helps.
