Barbie Benton said you took the words right out of my mouth Heff . Me thinks she had more then just words in her mouth at this point in her illustrious career lol
0:23 'Absolutely perfect for THE Fleetwood Mac LOL!! Yeah, I like The Nirvana, The Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Jethro Tull, and The Jimi Hendrix! Oh, I like Barbi Benton too. Holy crap that girl's pretty.
This is what real rock n' roll used to sound like kiddies....raw,in your face, tongue firmly in cheek....thank god it's archived so the future ancients will know all musicians weren't a bunch of whining pussies
This is totally bizzar....Hugh Heffner talking about Bucky Fuller with a pregenent Barbie Benton with Fleetwood Mac at "The Mansion" playing Rattlesnake Shake, one of my favorite songs of all time. Made my night. Right on, Bozozoo
Hefner is his very own ratpack, all to himself - the smooth successful bad boy, who can be facetious inyour face because he's got the shit - success is its own rewarrd, obviously - but he patronized the bands he featured, he was a Caligula interested only is sex and adulation - an American icon -
i love how the british even have kinda a American accent when they sing and visa verse (people that say cover the Beatles kinda deal), man he must of love love loved the blues to pin point lill things like that man o man! any ways, i love all of you
So sad to think of Peter looking so healthy and animated here and what happened to him not too long after this. So gifted. And Danny too. Dammit, makes me angry and sad, too.
What a classic! Cool to see folks up and shaking it for Rattlesnake Shake, although I'm guessing the band didn't have to "shake" it that night by themselves!
Guy in blue = Jeremy Spencer. Mainly the bands slide guitarist and parody singer. He did countless Elmore James covers. He wasn't sick he just often didn't play on Peters tunes.
@chuckyko The guy in blue, in the band? That's Danny Kirwan, no doubt just standing back and playing rhythm, letting Peter sing his song - that's my guess.
That young guy playing guitar, with the hair in his face; very fuckable! I love the dancing by the way. Never "felt" this to be such a dancable song...
@bozo- and a song about masterbation at of all places - hef's playboy club - - yea !!! --------- when my brother took all his albums with him off to college - I went out and bought this album and quicksilver happy trails - I already owned the white album and crown of creation so I was off to a good start .
Heff could have just as easily said something like, "The environmental conditions that have resulted from contemporary architectural visions of the modern urban landscape are no different than me and these two lovely Playmates getting together and into something I like to call the "Rattlesnake Shake". By the way, the Rattlesnake in question should not leave any doubt as to whose rattlesnake I am speaking of."
Barbi Benton, the beautiful young goddess on Hefner's left, later married him. Who was hotter? Barbi as a babe or Pete as a blues guitarist? Anyway, based on Pete's beard, and the fact this was shot in the States, this may have been taped during the ill-fated tour which spelled the end of that wonderful version of the band. I remember seeing a scrubbed up, suit-wearing Roger McGuinn on this show, fronting for the Byrds. He looked pretty annoyed the whole time.
At least you came to one of the sources of Aerosmith's influence. Do you really think Joe Perry flipped his magnet in the neck pickup by himself??? He was trying to emulate his true guitar idol (not Jimmy Page).
I bet Hef fucked those 2 hot chicks at the start of this video. I bet he banged them hard that night .... dirty old cunt ! Buah ha ha ha ha ha haha ha
Hilarious...Hefners lead in and all...this must have been televised from the Playboy mansion in the late 60's... " you took the words right out of my mouth Hef" says Barbie Benton, Hef's girlfriend at the time.
Not to take anything away from Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, but I think blues music of this kind really appealed to the conceits of the so called "jet set" in the late 60's, of which Hef was a charter member.
After seeing vintage Playboy After Dark footage of The Grateful Dead, and Deep Purple, I don't think that's the case. The select audience looks just as lost, and fake as the other bands. They're just there to act like they appreciate this music. It's just like today's music awards show with the small crowd jumping up and down to anything because they're being paid. The true Fleetwood Mac fans of this period made many vists to both Fillmore's, and the rest of the hippie ballroom circuit.
Thanks for the input, strangeonesfor.....I'm just critical of the scene as seen on the clip. Hef was actually a recluse but sort of projected the "sophisticated" jet set image and then of course there was the Playboy "philosophy" ....don't get me started on that.
And here you can hear the psychedelic tendencies that would emerge later in Peter Green's guitar work. This is a significant piece of blues work by a significant group of musicians.
Hef didn't get dosed. They put the LSD in the coffee at the catering table, which Hef stayed well away from. He was probably the only person in the room who WASN'T dosed.
This is the irony of ironies. Here you have a hippie drug band (a very good one), singing about male masterbation in front of women for the taking. Just watch Peter Green's wry smile, priceless.
Great video! It shows just how good this line-up was as a live band. Too bad that shortly after this Peter Green left (and would never be the same again).
