DESERTEC Foundation: The TuNur Project -- Tunisian sun will light European homes by 2016

This is a great project, more people should start using sustainable energy for all of the benefits it brings. I am glad TuNur will be an opportunity to provide employment to Tunisians (who are in desperate need for jobs). I am hoping this project gets achieved successfully. I am interested in how the pipe of "electricity" will go under-water between Tunisia and Italy--some great engineering work there I guess!

Furthermore, it is obvious from our discussions in Tunisia, that creation of jobs, and possibilities for the development of new industries are at least as important for the country. We estimate that up to 60% of the value-added will take place in Tunisia and this will have significant benefits for the Tunisian economy particularly in the poorer Southern part of the country where TuNur will be built.

@ErileMatan We would be glad if the TuNur plants could also supply Tunisians with electricity but providing the Tunisian energy supply is currently the responsibility of Tunisian state-owned company, STEG. Under current Tunisian legislation, private companies cannot supply electricity directly to the Tunisian grid. TuNur is nonetheless open to discussions about feeding some of the electricity from the TuNur project into the Tunisian grid.

The Sahara is big enough and hot enough for everyone... still, it would probably make more sense for African nations to build their own plants further south.

You should have done this great project in Morocco , Tunisia is still unstable ...anyways good luck , it is a blue print for other projects , and by the way why not replace the simple mirrors with Fresnel Lenses you will be able to harvest thousands of times of energy this way , also why use water instead of a better liquid (I think ammonia for ex.)
