And yes he is just an old modernist who rejects God because now we know better. It is silly now to believe that God exists because we know better now. I think that kind of thinking is silly.
He is not a heretic because through his own words I do not believe that he was never really a Christian. So maybe he is an agnostic but not a Christian even a heretical one.
