@fusionstar916 If the gun is a newer JG, then everything should be mostly good to go inside. As you mentioned, check the shimming of the gears... Also, if you are running a LiPo battery in the gun (or want to), then check the angle of engagement between the sector gear and the piston's first tooth (video coming soon all about this!)
@fusionstar916 Also, I have seen 3 JG guns from 2009 where the trigger stop bar between the trigger and the sector gear, which keeps the trigger shuttle in its track, shears off. The post is part of the mechbox, and breakage means replacing the whole shell. Ensure that the sector gear does not rub against the post, and maybe file some material off of the top of the post in case it is being "pressed" by the top half of the shell. We're not sure what causes it to break yet.
a bearing spring guide is much more practical then bearing piston head, just use a plastic washer to make you piston much lighter improving fps efficiency
@xXxDoubledotxXx Here is a tip: grind the hole for the trigger a little wider, then assemble the GB without the trigger, and when you got it, put the trigger in by only ever so slightly opening the bottom of the gearbox. That is how it its done on V3s (they are even bigger bitches when it comes to the trigger), and it should work with V2s also, if you grind the hole bigger.
I have a sector clip on my sector gear and this makes it impossible to time the sector gear towards the 1 o'clock position. This timing problem is causing feeding problems on my m4. Help please...
I cut my cylinder head but it still works fine and my compression is very nice. I cant put enough force on it the piston to force it to the cylinder head without popping the cylinder head off.
Great instruction video! It's so clear to understand the MechBox maintenance for me, debutant of Tokyo marui M733 user. Thank you anyway for all of your other videos, too. nash airsofter from Japan.
@raz0racanine you idiot. the piston doesnt really define whether or not it is a full metal gearbox. a metal gearbox shell and metal gears is really the only definition of a full metal gearbox in my opinion. personally, i prefer a plastic (polycarb or azimuth) piston, a plastic tappet plate, and a poly-carb piston head. the cylinder is almost always metal and the cylinder head varies by brand. the spring guide should be metal but plastic is fine for weaker springs. bushings are nice
@mikeit64 1º learn to think. 2º learn to think twice. 3º learn to shut up!! i find hard to melt down nylon bushing when the moving parts are not even reaching rpm's higher then 5000... very unlikely because nylon only melts at high temp... i didnt saw any semantics or spelling error so this means that you don't know how to read... and finally metal it's more expensive than nylon... so there you go! they are just trying to get deeper in to your wallet... and ppl like you are leting this happen.
@bazengao not trying to disagree with you or fight with you but i have worn though my nylon bushing before and replaced them with ball bearings. Wasnt to expensive i think i was about 20$ not to bad and i havnt had to replace them sense. do agree with you about nylon being self lubricated.
@SoSteezyFeelSoEzee erm... I do not know aabout G&G but a M120 spring never was a bad idea.. but then again I do not know if the G&G can take that much, without getting destroyed.... a standard CA AEG usually can take a M120 spring... (There's also M150, M170 and so on, but then you would be have to put in a new motor for sure and probably also new gears) - anyways look around on the internet :)
Good news, I got the piston head off. If you drill into the front of it there is a screw just like the quote says. I stripped the head through and had to mangle the piston head until I could peal it off and get at the screw. DONT cut the head clean off that will take off the screw with it and any hope of locking onto it with channel-locks .
Hello i am new to higher end gearboxes and i want to know if it will be easy for my first time upgrading a gearbox and putting it back together? I will be using an Echo1 MK5A5 SG-2 version. I will probably be putting a new spring, piston, piston head, air seal nozzel, spring guide, and all that stuff at the top of the gearbox. Not the gears or wires or bushings cause they are metal and maybe the shims and motor. Got any suggestions?

I have a Classic Army M15A4 SOCOM cqb aeg, and it makes a vibration/ cordless drill noise after I shoot. Then just last night it started making a popping noise and bb's were spilling out of the barrel while I was shooting.. I kept firing and the popping and dripping bb's were sorted out.. But it still makes that vibration and cordless drill noise for about half a second after every shot.. What could all of this be cause by?
@Marcello143 i dont know why bbs were rolling out but the drilling noise is normal... its the spring just buzzing. my friend has the exact CQB M15A4 by CA as you and it does the same thing. It isnt a bad thing. If you switch the spring to an S110 it will go away and you SHOULD get around 360-380 fps. probably higher up... but you dont have to unless the noise bugs you
i want to reduce the fps of my airsoft gun that shoot around 480 fps to 300 fps and i would like to know if I just have to replace the spring or something else?
@crazyman9914 assuming your talking about a .2 gram BB then all you need to do is replace the spring...If its in an AEG then the spring thats in it, depending on air seal, could be anything from a S130 spring to a S150. So to get it down to the 300 FPS you need to replace the current spring with a 100 spring. That will get about 300 roughly.
I'm having a problem with my piston. When I try to remove the head of the piston it just turns and turns and turns...but I can't remove it. Any suggestions how to get it off?
@TuPaTam Hey I'm having the same issue, piston head just turns and turns. I have a replacement so I don't need it, just need it off. Thanks for any time or consideration to the problem.
@TuPaTam Hey so I just was surfing the net and found this "QUOTE (namloot @ May 26 2009, 07:41 PM) *
There is a little screw in the center of the TM piston head. It's like a #8 x 1/2 Phillips head screw. If you carefully carve a round hole in the center of the head (from the front) you will be able to get to the head of the screw.
Good luck." I'm gonna try it and I'll post the results.
I have a full autop MP5 its as GSG (German Sports Gun) and I'm looking to upgrade the spring to make it more powerful. Can anyone help with any tips or ideas? Just reply thank you
@Decimator334 no you don't. however, it is a good idea to re-shim and re-time the gears when replacing the spring. also, depending on how much of an upgrade the spring is, you migh need new gears (if they aren't metal), and sometimes a new piston head isn't a bad idea either. it really all comes down to what you're looking to do. if you just want to replace the spring, greasing is optional, but recommended.
Ive tried to asemble my v2 gearbox multiple times but every time I put it back together the gears lock and they make a clicking noise when the trigger is pulled.
That happens to me too on my Ares G36 (v3 gearbox). Everytime I reassemble it, it will fire for a little bit then it locks up and firing just causes it to make a dull thud noise.

Do you really have to put threadlock on every screw? And if so, how permanent is it, because I want to put a heavier spring in my gun to play with my friends, and then downgrade it every 2 weeks for one day to play at a local field, so would the threadlock stuff interfere with that at all?
hi could someone answer this please? i have a v2 gearbox, and i dont see the point in doing all this dissasebly if all i want is a upgraded spring, is it possible to just take out the spring and not mess w/ the bushings and the gears and all tht crap??? i only got my gun a week or two ago...
yeah you can but it is worthwhile to remove excess greese from the gearswhile you have it open. if you are increasing the fps of the spring you may want to upgrade the bushings and gears as they will wear down faster.
You don't have to fully disassemble the gearbox(gears, bushings.......) however if you are planning to replace with a stronger spring you may want to reinforce some of the other pieces or the extra force my cause damage if you have plastic gears or a poor shim job, etc.........
I opened up the version 2 gear box to replace a worn out spur gear,
after putting it back together the gun shoots on semi and full auto but the bullet velocity has gone down to 10% of what it used ot be its on 60 fps thats 20m/s
i really dont know what could have happend the gun sounds louder when it shoots and not as much air comes out.
I think it might be a bad contact or a more likely, the spring piston looses too much air
ooo thats a bad gear timing, take it apart agai and twist the sector gear to the right (face gearbox to the right with nozzle side facing right) untill the last tooth is at about the 2 o clock position now just reset everything, re lube piston head and cylander and now try, i guaranteee better results
I opened a AK47 Echo 1 RIS and it has a strange cylinder head and the spring had a bended part to adjust the cylinder head. I was not able to put a new spring because of that cylinder head. WTF was that? anyone? note: I dont have airsoft store in my country.
@Mechbox6mm i bought a airsoft gun yesterday and i think it is really cool but the the only problem is that it has a 100 spring an i would like a 120 spring in it. Do i need anything else then the spring if i want upgrade the velocity. The place i bought my Gun from says the gearbox is a cross between a v2 and v3.
The steps are basically all the same for any V2 gearbox. Some of the external electric bits and wire guards, etc. could be a little different. - but inside, a V2 is a V2.
get some good metal bushings like systema area 1000's, get a set of shims and shim ur gearbox cuz after u install the new bushings the gear placement will differ. this should hold u a long time, and if u want ur rate of fire (ROF) back get a guarder infinte torque up motor. ur done
@Mechbox6mm new to airsoft, making a clone to my,ar15s for training at home. Got a jg m16a4 ris, what should be the first upgrade aside from shims?

yeah you can but it is worthwhile to remove excess greese from the gearswhile you have it open. if you are increasing the fps of the spring you may want to upgrade the bushings and gears as they will wear down faster.
squelchyizmad 2 years ago
You don't have to fully disassemble the gearbox(gears, bushings.......) however if you are planning to replace with a stronger spring you may want to reinforce some of the other pieces or the extra force my cause damage if you have plastic gears or a poor shim job, etc.........

Yes. just skip to the step where he changes the spring.

if you want to do a quick spring change can you just pull the spring gently out of the piston and put a new one in??

id there any difference between m733 gearbox and m16 a2, m16 a1 vietnam version, sr16 - m4???

Metal bushings are more durable and will keep your gears aligned and moving more smoothly. -6mm

How are the metal bushings better than the original ones which come with the gun?

Need help !!
I think it might be a bad contact or a more likely, the spring piston looses too much air
please help
Thanks

I'm guessing you have an air leakage somewhere? Improper assembly of the air nozzle?
Racr4Lyfe 2 years ago
ooo thats a bad gear timing, take it apart agai and twist the sector gear to the right (face gearbox to the right with nozzle side facing right) untill the last tooth is at about the 2 o clock position now just reset everything, re lube piston head and cylander and now try, i guaranteee better results

hey for the the spring 120 upgrade i heard you need to upgrade other parts do you know what they are
Blomeupnow 2 years ago
That depends on the brand of gun.
For most quality brands, you can upgrade the spring, while leaving all other parts standard.
With the cheaper brands, I would change pretty much all internal parts.
At the very least, the gears.

I opened a AK47 Echo 1 RIS and it has a strange cylinder head and the spring had a bended part to adjust the cylinder head. I was not able to put a new spring because of that cylinder head. WTF was that? anyone? note: I dont have airsoft store in my country.

jektile 3 years ago
*Most* upgrade boxes will fit any AEG. There are some exceptions, but generally Yes.

@Mechbox6mm i bought a airsoft gun yesterday and i think it is really cool but the the only problem is that it has a 100 spring an i would like a 120 spring in it. Do i need anything else then the spring if i want upgrade the velocity. The place i bought my Gun from says the gearbox is a cross between a v2 and v3.

i have a utg mp5 with a version 2 gearbox, are the steps the same with any v2 gearbox or are they specific to the model?
xXBorn2golfXx 3 years ago
The steps are basically all the same for any V2 gearbox. Some of the external electric bits and wire guards, etc. could be a little different. - but inside, a V2 is a V2.

I have a CA m15 and just picked up a sp120 spring, what other upgrades are recommended to use the weapon with that particular spring?

get some good metal bushings like systema area 1000's, get a set of shims and shim ur gearbox cuz after u install the new bushings the gear placement will differ. this should hold u a long time, and if u want ur rate of fire (ROF) back get a guarder infinte torque up motor. ur done
Dingusmaster792 3 years ago
a systema high torque motor a dbc 6mm tight bore
