I think that she assumes that the addressees are in monogamous relationships. So, if you are bisexual, you are either in a relationship with a girl, which would be perceived as a homosexual relationship since I can see from your profile that you are a girl, or a guy, which would be perceived as a heterosexual relationship.

I'm hurt and shocked that the LBGT org. does not include hermaphrodites. They include Bisexual/Transgendered (the BT in the name), as well as Les/Gay, but no H. They may say they're inclusive, but it's a subtle sexism that they are not represented by a letter.

This is a carryover of the endemic bias of the white male Christian suburban power structure, I'm sure.

I can't speak for the website, but now most people use LGBTQ which stands for Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgendered Queer - Queer meaning any other status/label/whatever. H is kind of under Q. Also, this commercial is about sexuality, not gender.

But I do agree with you. It still is a much more taboo topic than sexuality presently and it's not fair.

PS. The politically correct and more commonly used term is now intersex.

pri1134- thankyou for the Wiki synopsis, but intersex is not a good substitution for hermaphrodite. You can't have it both ways. Les/Gay/Bi/Tra getting their chosen name, and H being relegated to a website sounding name.

There should be whole names or letters for each condition, and not a combination.

P1. My Sociology profs use and encourage us to use the term intersex as well. I think it's a good idea since hermaphrodite has a negative connotation and is usually used in a derogatory way. You may not personally like it, and that's fine.

And like I said, I do agree with you that intersex people get screwed over when in comes to visibility, politics, etc. I also agree that throwing all non-heterocentric statuses together in an acronym isn't the best idea.
