Methadone should never be mixed with benzodiazepines. The methadone clinics have banned the use of Clonopin by their clients even if they were prescribed by the doctor. The reason for this is because there were at least four deaths a week at a single clinic when a patient mixed their prescription methadone with Clonazepam. This cocktail may not kill the first dozen times, but may on the 13th try. My best friend is dead because he would not listen to my warnings.

I, too, have lost friends to the mixing of methadone and xanax. My answer to the problem is twofold. First, stop allowing pain clinics to prescribe methadone. Second, require monitored urinalysis at methadone clinics so xanax abusers can't sneak in clean urine and fool urinalyses. Give people on clinics a choice, methadone OR xanax. I used to be addicted to heroin. Over a ten year period of shooting heroin I overdosed 3 times to where I awoke in an ambulance. It is the doctor's RESPONSIBILITY to make sure the patients he is prescribing this medication to are made aware of the dangers that come with taking this or ANY other medication. Methadone is extremely powerful, it stays in your system for up to 12 hours, plus there's a whole list of medications you can't take with it, including Aleeve, which is a common OTC medicine! The doctors need to do their job and educate their patients, that's why they make the big bucks!

i was fortunate enough to survive my overdose- i'd taken xanax and methadone. when my husband found me in bed i was cold to the touch and hardly breathing at all. i ended up aspirating, I had a massive heart attack, i went into total organ failure, i experienced a large percentage of tissue death. here's a little info if i may add. my doc is weening me off 120mg of Methadone which i've been on for 2 yrs. i'm down to 30mg as of 3 days ago. starting friday i'm gonna start the Suboxon. i take .5mg of Xanax when needed for Anxiety, and let me tell u this weening off the Methadone process sucks so i'm using the Xanax and Ambien to curb the little edgeiness i feel at times. funny thing is...my Doc wants to switch me to a Fentyl Patch. can anyone tell me if the Suboxone really helps?

Addicts are not dying because they're taking the recommended dose...they do everything in excess and that's is what's killing them...not stupidity...ADDICTION IS A DISEASE! Joey, My 23 year old son died overdosing on methadone & xanax on 4-12-05. He was the most caring, loving, giving person. When he died, not anyone in my family came to his wake. i am on methadone and xanax four mg a day and I function fine. I am a teacher and do great at my job. I will be swithing to suboxone and I do not see how you people are killing yourselves....you do not die from xanax very easily. How much are people taking? I have a high tolerance but have no problem with the combo of 45mg done and 4mg xanax. xanax is not a recreational drug dumb asses! It is for anxiety, not for fun. Wise up or die.

And you can actually die from xanax pretty easily but not from it alone, in combination with alcohol its almost poison. I take 1-2 mg on weekdays but medicate myself with weed too so..

I also lost my 24yr old brother to an overdose on heroin and Xanax exactly one year ago today. People DO DIE from Xanax and other benzo's all the time..especially when combining it with benzo's and methadone. Benzo's are EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE. If someone is genetically predisposed to addiction, they will take whatever they can to get high.

Where is the personal responsibility anymore? Someone takes 10x the amount of medication they are prescribed or don't even get it prescribed and decide for themselves how much to take, when to take it and how often. I Went to my methadone docter for my monthly urine screen analaylis analysis. My family docter RX me some clonazapam .5(klonopin) to help adjust to my lower doses I wanted from methadone. He saw those and said nothing. I took a reletive's Xanax CR to he saw that in the urine screen and took halk my carries away. He said Xanax is king ass benzo so to speak

In the right dosage oxyxontin and methodose can kill too! And, depending on your developed tolerance (if any) to opiate class drugs, these two taken together can be bad news as well. The point at which mixing Xanax in there can lead to death just occurs a lot quicker.

It is not taking Oxycontin with Methadone that is deadly, it is mixing methadone with Xanax that is deadly, or any benzodiazepine type drug mixed with methadone is deadly. That is a fact. Betsy
