i went berserk for some reason when I saw them play this at their concert at the greek yesterday. i started dancing and pretty soon i saw purple swirls. <3
Oh my my, so many instruments performed so impeccably; add Robert Plant and Patty Griffin's haunting vocals and we have all encompassing depth. Yep it's a keeper.
@21stCenturyDeadline why? is it a simple riff that sucks and has been band-aided with a bunch of bullshit effects?? in my opinion the edge is fkn horrible. he cant play without laptops doing all the work for him.
@larkydozer how am i a child? you said '' your opinion isn't even based on facts'' which my opinion was, you just didn't understand, and plus, it's an OPINION, not a fact.
This is one of those songs that is a clear lens into the dark waters inside. They are different because we are looking into different beings, and for me being able to experience both enhances my appreciation for each of them. I just saw Low a couple weeks ago (stunningly good), and would love to hear Robert Plant sing this live.
I think it's in our nature to compare things. It's just part of being a human. We compare things everyday. Merely stating you opinion should be enough. No need to attack someone on their opinions
I think it's our of great respect that Plant covered their songs on his album. I still prefer the original, there seems to be more a dark element in the intonations of Sparhawk. I just feel it more. It might also be the women's voice, Mimi has got an amazing voice.
Bob of Joy loving pretty much anything he does! Things just turn into GOLD........ Massive influence and still maturing into something as interesting - Plant man pulling out all the stop get again!.. Fair play on ya man - I'm not jealous at all, much!!
You guys are about as relevant as Robert Plant is these days. All talking a load of bollocks about subjectivity and "if you respect music" .... this kind of lofty nonsense and music snobbery belongs in the 70s, just like you lot. It's as if punk never happened !
@willduck1 Speaking of bollocks, you must have quite the pair on you to accuse others of being lofty and snobbery in the same post IMMEDIATELY AFTER accusing other people of not being relevant and think we wouldn't catch it. Oh and since you brought up punk I think Ramone, Strummer, Lyndon, Pop, and the rest would appreciate us not conforming to the need to qualify our opinions so much and just sitting back and enjoying the music than they would your pompous attitude and insults.
Not a bad cover but not a patch on the original so why bother. Plant has kept the same mood but taken the edges off - the bass line accents and the guitar after each "tonight the monkey dies...". Makes for a more dreary result.
As for comparing versions of songs being useless and covers being one artists way of respecting another artist - do me a favour ! If you respect an artist, do it better or don't bother.
"Better" is subjective and the point of all music, including covers, is expression, not one-upping the originator or previous person to cover it. If you respect music, do us all a favor and stop encouraging the adolescent mentality of having to qualify your opinion and misrepresent it as unquestionable fact over the internet. As I've said before, all that reeks of insecurity and besides, it's just old hat.
Great upload. Thanks, and as the first poster, let me be the first to say, before anyone tries to compare Robert Plant's version to Low's version, the point of one artist covering the song of another artist is because of the appreciation the former has for either or both of the latter, not to one-up them. This is a haunting, beautiful cover.
Robert Plant obviously appreciates Low because he covered two of their songs on his new album so let's not compare versions and just enjoy the music, eh?
@mapscannotcontainme , well said. This is a wonderful cover. If you enjoy Buddy Miller's guitar on this song check out his October Texas Monthly interview about his collab. with Plant. Just search his name at TM's website.
