You can just feel the penguins happiness. I am sure they had the best of care in captivity but not one penguin stayed behind. I like the led penguin best, he was ready to go home! And isn't it better to live a short life in your own environment than a long one in captivity? I think it is.
This from Purrett: "... are releasing stranded penguins back to their habitat and you lie by saying you love animals and then you wish some killer whales or sharks come and decimate 75% of the released penguins. Don't you think that you should be apologizing... your way of thinking is foreign to the majority of animal lovers? Talk to your teacher because your parents in matter values failed..." Huh? "in matter values?????" YOU need to re-read my post. Poor child.
This is the opposite of Canada, where they kill "focas". Congratulations!! And if the penguins went to the wrong place we have to think all we are doing against the nature. :) :)
could someone share with me a lil background on this? Where are the penguins swiming to? Do the know how to fend for them selves? It's like they were just thrown back in there. How did they fair?it looks like a Killer whales dream come true!!
I'm from Brazil, although not living there currently. But I can tell you. Those penguins were found in Bahia which is a state in the northeast. It's not common. By this time of the year it's common to find them in the south because they are scaping from the winter in Antartica. So, the penguins were rescued, treated and finally released in Cassino (where the record was taken) in the extreme south of Brazil. There the penguins could catch the right current and go back to Antartica!
We,people, are animals, too. But what do you say about plants? As a gardener for many years [Germany]I can say there exists plant's intelligence, but is quite different as our one.I know better than you how to preserve the environment from the big oak to a small ant in grass inclusive.
The Earth and Nature: air is natural, water is natural,a car is natural, petrol is natural, flowers are natural...[everything on EARTH is NATURAL ],unnatural is only someone's idea that one thing could be more natural then another one.
"order" means you preserve the environment you depend on, like the non human world does. It also means seeking after pleasure as opposed to creating misery. That's why animals like penguins are more advanced than humans :)
Jesus that's dumb. The natural process of geology is to burry carbon. We've dug up 500m years of carbon sequestration and released it into the air in less than 200, The Permian mass extinction was natural, doesn't mean it was a good idea.
The reason they had to "release" these birds is hat they washed up on the beach, confused perhaps by global warmingcurrents and malnurished because of a global fisheries collapse. Humans think that we can treat the ocean like a toilet and just fix the broken machine with a bit of binder twine! The ecosystem is far to complex for we the race of moron!
The Earth and our ecosysems aren't even that bad. Some minor fixing of bad habits will correct eveything. I hate all of the people that think the world is so bad and its going to collapse because of "global warming". Yes, our CO2 emissions are causing some harm, the main factor is that planets go through cycles or warming and cooling, to the point of an ice age.
Reality is regardless of what we do our climate would probably be like this anyway. It was hotter in the 1400's then it is now. The earth has gone into ice ages before without human pollution. Human pollution isnt causing climate change
Scientific evidence shows dramatic links between pumping 16 billion tons of extra UNABSORBED carbon dioxide into the atmosphere yearly and climate change. Why..duhh, because C02 acts a greenhouse gas and stays in the atmosphere one hundred years. That happens to be physics and chemistry which you don't know. Just like if I dumped 10 tons of arsenic into your living room and only allowed you one vanload daily to clean it up. you would die.
The 1400's average worldwide temps were NOT hotter than now. They have rocketed since then. The difference is close to 1 degree C which is huge. There have been temperature spikes after ice ages but CO2 concentrations never surpassed 300ppm. More than that and natural systems can't absorb the excess C02. The current industrial spike has taken only 200 years and C02 is at 375 ppm. In early epochs the fastest spike in CO2 levels was 14,000 years and even then there were mass extinctions.
Another problem which accelerates human caused global warming is that carbon sinks which absorb C02 have become weaker. Methane is a worse greenhouse gas & is being released from from oceans & tundra areas-also melting along with glaciers for the first time in eons- Humans have cut down huge land based carbon sink areas like the Amazon and turned other areas into deserts. The southern oceans, a major water based carbon sink, have become saturated so they are no longer absorbing C02 effectively.
I live on this beach and I remember that day. Yeah, penguins are native from Antarctica (and colder regions like Patagonia and Terra do Fogo), but sometimes some of them stray and end up here in Brazil. The release is usually set here in Cassino, because it's the "closest" to the South Pole you can get here in Brazil. Check a map and compare it to the North Emisphere. We have temperatures relatively low - it can snow some times, specially in the winter (altough it is spring in October)

Its sort of funny because on that same day, there was a historic release of sharks in Brazil as well. I wonder how many of those penguins actually made it to their destination? By my prediction, not many!
Penguins would also rather swim than walk; they can swim up to 15mph for a long time, so no they do not need to swim close to shore. These waters have few if any sharks so they are in no risk of being eaten. The rescuers of these animals know what they were doing. They are biologists and after spending so many months making sure the penguins were health enough to go back to the wild they would not make a poor decision.
"A few species of pinguins inhabit temperate regions, and the Galápagos penguin (Spheniscus mendiculus) lives in the equatorial tropics off South America.
My guess is that these penguins are Galápagos penguins, just because the release was in Salvador (Brazil) and that is close to the tropical line.
Hi,from Montevideo, Uruguay. the penguins have been spotted on their way home. the sea lion population was pretty much wiped out here by the British, there are few if any sharks in these waters and I do not believe that a orca had ever been seen down here, so, if the little fellas can fish on their way home and catch the current, thenm they stand a good chance of making it back in time for the mating season, have a good winter up north, folks!
retards penguin's cant swim that long without land after a while! and it looks like it's just water for miles! u just killed probably about 3,000 penguins! good going
hahaha! i thought of that but only gave it a moment of consideration. check mapquest-- there is an archipelago across the water from Rio Grande do Sul. i wonder if they meant to have the 'guins roost there.
this is heartwarming. penguins are my favorite animal. they were so cute as they cautiously approached the water, almost as if they couldnt believe they were being freed. this is for all those people who say how much humanity sucks, blah blah blah. see those people? they probably dont make much money, but they are doing what they love, and what they feel is important in the big scheme of things. heroes.
Eh, give 'em a break. That's the best a person like that can do. If he/she had better, more descriptive words to use, he/she would use them, but it's the very best he/she could do.
Brazil is in South America. The penguins leave Antarctica in search of food and follow the water's currents north to warmer waters with better fishing. There are always penguins that wash up in Brazil, but this year the currents were really strong and an unusually high # of penguins washed ashore. Hopefully they can make it back to where they came from, but unfortunately they'll probably just die on the way.
wow great video ... i think the one i seen was cut short cause i didnt see the part where the Sharks and killer wales came to the buffet and didnt see the one where they took out the clubs and beat the penguins ...oh wait thats seals
I'm reading all these comments arguing about this and that and I really don't get it. I have my opinion and you have yours, and we can share them but it comes to a point where you're really just arguing fundementals. Is it really worth your time to continue? I don't really think humans killing animals is so horrible. You might think otherwise. We share our reasoning and thats the end. You aren't going to convince me, and I probably won't convince you. So why the ongoing name calling and arguing?
Awsome! I love animals...but, I think if would have been a funny video if a whale or a group of sharks came up from out of nowhere and swallowed about seventy five percent of them...you know...if the cycle of life happened. :)
I was reading your lines and couldn't help to think "Wow, what a warped way of thinking, this has to be an idiot!". Then I looked at your nick and understood everything, - Tinycrack - its just the cycle of life.....idiots have a crack in their brains otherwise they would be smart and wouldn't think such crappy things.
Hmmm. You read a post and you decided to reach as deeeeeeply as you could into your barrel of intellectual responses and write the smartest, most salient response....and the best you could come up with was childish name-calling and MAKING FUN OF SOMEONE'S USER NAME? I believe your post here is a monument to your inability to have adult conversation in a public forum. My user name refers to my career, which likely, you would not survive in for more than five days. God bless! :)
Again, that was the first thing that came to mind? Oh please oh please...keep posting! This conversation is exposing you every time you post! he he he!
You don't seem to understand! Humans in Brasil are releasing stranded penguins back to their habitat and you first lie by saying you love animals and then you wish some killer whales or sharks come and decimate 75% of the released penguins. Don't you think that you should be apologizing instead of arguing with Rurh 1981 and me? Don't you think that your way of thinking is foreign to the majority of animal lovers? Talk to your teacher because your parents in matter values failed you big time.
I agree w/thhattswhutsup. Likely, many of ze people like Purrete are city dwellers who don't understand ze cycle of life. There are so many animal lovrs who cut @ least one deer neck a year & kill hundreds of cows...but they love animals. It would be hard to understand if a person wasn't raised on the land. If a person saves a deer in the wilderness by scaring off a lion, he/she has killed a beautiful lion to save a deer. It's part of life on this wonderful Earth. Purrete is doing his best.
So cute! I want to join this group! Those penguins are adorable! I love penguins so much!!!!!Thanks for sharing this. They look so helpless in the waves. I think its so unusual to see penguins on a beach, after seeing so many penguins in the Arctic.

**woudl not fit all in all**
Penguins would also rather swim than walk; they can swim up to 15mph for a long time, so no they do not need to swim close to shore.

Hi,from Montevideo, Uruguay. the penguins have been spotted on their way home. the sea lion population was pretty much wiped out here by the British, there are few if any sharks in these waters and I do not believe that a orca had ever been seen down here, so, if the little fellas can fish on their way home and catch the current, thenm they stand a good chance of making it back in time for the mating season, have a good winter up north, folks!

tishandlexi ,Maybe the penguins are swimming near the coast and when they want, they are going outside to rest... stop talking bullshits ;)
CosmeBG 3 years ago
retards penguin's cant swim that long without land after a while! and it looks like it's just water for miles! u just killed probably about 3,000 penguins! good going
tishandlexi 3 years ago
hahaha! i thought of that but only gave it a moment of consideration. check mapquest-- there is an archipelago across the water from Rio Grande do Sul. i wonder if they meant to have the 'guins roost there.

this is heartwarming. penguins are my favorite animal. they were so cute as they cautiously approached the water, almost as if they couldnt believe they were being freed. this is for all those people who say how much humanity sucks, blah blah blah. see those people? they probably dont make much money, but they are doing what they love, and what they feel is important in the big scheme of things. heroes.

Oooh, a veritable feast for seals and orcas. Thank you, ifaw. This should help save the seal and killer whale populations.

Eh, give 'em a break. That's the best a person like that can do. If he/she had better, more descriptive words to use, he/she would use them, but it's the very best he/she could do.

... Where are they going?
madmuffinz 3 years ago
why are they releasing penguins in South Africa? Are they native there?
affluence8 3 years ago
Brazil is in South America. The penguins leave Antarctica in search of food and follow the water's currents north to warmer waters with better fishing. There are always penguins that wash up in Brazil, but this year the currents were really strong and an unusually high # of penguins washed ashore. Hopefully they can make it back to where they came from, but unfortunately they'll probably just die on the way.

I couldn't help but shout "Whee!" as they entered the water..
At first, I thought they were "releasing" them into another containment.

tinycrack 3 years ago

God bless! :)
tinycrack 3 years ago
your career has something to do with tiny crack? Do you sell and/or manufacture small amounts of crack cocaine?
rurh1981 3 years ago
Again, that was the first thing that came to mind? Oh please oh please...keep posting! This conversation is exposing you every time you post! he he he!
tinycrack 3 years ago
You don't seem to understand! Humans in Brasil are releasing stranded penguins back to their habitat and you first lie by saying you love animals and then you wish some killer whales or sharks come and decimate 75% of the released penguins. Don't you think that you should be apologizing instead of arguing with Rurh 1981 and me? Don't you think that your way of thinking is foreign to the majority of animal lovers? Talk to your teacher because your parents in matter values failed you big time.

haha wow dude lighten up. dont be suck a hippie douche bag.
why cant ppl just enjoy the vid
thhattswhutsup 3 years ago
He he! I agree. :)
tinycrack 3 years ago
