Mr Huxley had intelligence and the pseudo-enlightenment that comes from the use of psychedelic and psychotropic drugs. He saw many things that are true and half-true and some that were false. Like Krishnamurti, he was a seeker who never found. But he's worth listening to.

Huxley is first of all an author, not a philosopher...

@TheHomoludens I was a "follower" of Krishnamurti back in the 60's. But I realized he was another carrot and stick show. Not that he had evil intentions; he was just another seeker that found himself in the position of being seen as a "finder". He held out a "promise" of something that he couldn't deliver; not to himself or to others. Like all the rest, he knew there was something but couldn't attain it nor deliver it. At least he was honest enough to reject Theosophy and their attempts.

@truthtuube I never got the feeling that Krishnamurti made any sort of "promise" in what I read of him and I find it respectable that he chose not to become theosophy´s "messiah".

And my impression is rather that what krishnamurti found (just like anybody else who finds) couldn´t be transported by words.

What´s your idea/def. of "enlightenment"?

But after seeking for years through all the teachers, drugs, systems, etc. I could lay my hands on, I was no closer to "finding" than when I began. Perhaps even farther away. What finally transpired was an absolute shock, as I would not have imagined at all that the answer could have lain so close at hand yet be so unrecognizable. But, let me clarify what I mean by Krishnamurti "promising" something.

@truthtuube If there weren't something people were looking for and hoping Krishnamurti would help them find, they obviously wouldn't be going after him, right? Same with all the spiritual "gurus" etc. But what is a fact is that while they can not really bring the "goods" they have made a career out of talking about them. Capitalizing on the spiritual hunger of people, they wax eloquent and mystical, always tantalizing but never satisfying. After years of this, I was burnt out and desperate.

"Brave New World" must have seemed to many at time of publishing as speculative/science fiction. Huxley was ahead of his time, but not by much. Perhaps he was blessed with dying before his vision truly became reality.

Propaganda through manipulation of media, social compliance/apathy through pharmaceuticals... where are the Huxleys and Orwells of today? Maybe they're no longer needed because the future is now plain to see.
