I know this video is old, but for anyone watching I would recommend this build but with another hatchery in your base and an early expand going. Especially if your playing 2-3s with your teammate there to help defend. The amount of units you can push is ridiculous.
@gofyster2 I think that is definitely something that would be useful and I will include it for any future strategic build videos but this is an ancient video based on bad strategy and a completely different game (this was from the SC2 beta and the game has changed a ton since then). Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep that in mind going forward.

lol this is a rush intro bro, you need to do better openings... the more i watched the more of an idiot i think you are...y did i bother making this comment before watching the whole thing. it shoudl sound like "watch some damn instructional vids yourslef...what are you silver league?"
@flyingdrunkboy You do realize this is from the very beginning of beta right? Please stop posting stupid comments to insult people that only make you look stupid in the end. No one benefits from that. The game has obviously changed a ton since this video was made and I am a much better player than anything this vid would indicate.
The timing on your speedlings is way off. It's impeccable you get them out as soon as possible. If you want a better build for faster speedlings just message me.
I used to start just like you until I watched another zerg player yesterday.
If you build a overlord before you start on spawningpool you will be able to get out more drones in less time and you will have higher income for when you want to start early zerg rush and you can put up an expansion for more larvas and resources if you are aiming for fast tier 2 unit spam.
@TheRyong20 If you're facing Voids get an extra Queen or two early and get Hydras. Remember, scouting is important to know what tech your opponent is working on so you can counter it.
@TheRyong20 Well if you're specifically playing against protoss and trying to defend a void ray rush, they most likely won't put canons anywhere other than at the entrance. In this situation a well timed overlord in the side of their base should get you the intel you need. You may lose the overlord but that's better than losing the game because you were unprepared. As far as turrets you can do the overlord trick but you could prolly scout ground.
"excuse me my voice just cracked, apparently I'm in puberty still" haha you should hear the commentator on this Zerg strategy video. "StarCraft 2 - Zerg 10 Pool Rush ZvP w/ commentary"
This is a good stragigy, you just have gone about it completely wrong.
A faster economy build would serve better.
Get too 10 drones, drop an overlord, then build the three drones when it comes up.
Get to 14 supply, around 200 minerals (whatever comes first, and send a drone to start an expansion. it'll get there at excately 300. Drop your expansion, get to 16 supply and drop another overlord into production. Then eyeball if you need want another hatchery, or a spawning pool...
In your case, a spawning pool would of been a better choice. Then when you can, build another. Start spitting out drones now from both the expansion and your base, dump 4 extractors and start raking in the gas. You should ignore the zergling speed upgrage unless their is a large difference between the choke point and the mineral feild. Upgrade into a lair, and consider grabbing another expansion
Rush the probes with zerglings. Ignore their defenders...
@Made2see2000 ...and hit the drones or scvs where it hurts. This should put them on the defensive. Build a spire. And start throwing as many zerglings at as you can afford. save about 1500 mininerals.
If you play right, you have spent ZERO gas, and now have about gas 1500 in your pool. This can be used to to shit out 15 multies. To be safe, try to get up to 62 drones by this point in total if fesable. This will allow you to change to another stratigy if this one fizzles.
@Made2see2000 tasty air units to the back of their base and start hurrassing their drones/scvs. Usually you'll damage their base pretty badly. Ignore the chokepoint unless it's very lighty defended (say by a single walled siege tank). and this should make happiness happen.
Here are some other tips...
While this build works VERY well in 1v1, it does poorly in FFA. You annoy EVERYONE.
If there is a gold expansion, take it as early as possible and strip mine it. Then abandon the base.
Try also to get to hive, and build another spire to REALLY get the air tech pumping. a mutlisks 3 ping hit is awsome, a upgraded mutlisk 3 ping hit makes just about everything cry.
DON'T IGNORE YOUR ZERGLINGS! there your alternative. Remember 1 gas is worth 5 minerals in harvest time. It is cheeper too lose 10 zerglings then 1 multlisk!
UPGRAGE THE ZERGLINGS. but generally, unless you have other ground units, -ignore the defense. Anything with splash damage makes zerglings cry... And the spent gas is usually (NEVER) worth the time. The Better choice is making them move and attack faster and harder.
If your enemy see's this ballsy strat comming. Don't be stubborn. Switch to something new. A few roaches or ultralisks can make those zerglings a whole lot more surviable.
Missle turrents are not your friends, but don't worry. A terran player will never have more then your DPS can deal out, You will win. Plus if they place them in the mining area, the ping damage of the mutilisks will more then do some damage.
Also, for those who just saw this, I posted in reverse order. Read the last one first and go up. XD my bad.

your a moron, if you werent a noob, you would see that you need to 10 pool, extractor, 2 on extractor, overlord, if your playing 1v1 this build on this video would be owned in diamond/plat
@Willsohrnberger Haha dude I'm sorry but I had to reply to this. First of all, this video was made at the beginning of beta when everyone was still learning a lot about the game, including myself. Secondly I specifically state that this BO was for 2v2 only, I realize this is not a viable 1v1 build especially in higher level play. I usually open with 14 pool 16 hatch in 1v1 btw (I'm currently 1v1 platinum). Please don't be so rude.
@SCBattleGrounds ummmm im a compleate noob on this game so if u could show me that build that would be epic cuz im im 6 games into my practice and the score is 0-6 so any and every bit of help and info would be great
Also... I noticed this is technically 10pool, so 9OL isn't the right choice (13pool and higher for 9OL, 12 pool is best with double extractor (but almost impossible for a human to do perfectly), 11pool single extractor, 10pool and lower 10Ol is best...
Original discussion (I'm just a dumb parrot, really, I'm not even good at this game) is on teamliquid (google search "teamliquid 9OL" should return it).
I realize I'm not a very good player, but this just looks sloppy to me... You weren't rigid about keeping spawn larva on the hatchery, you pulled off a drone for spawning pool too early... Also 9 overlord has been heavily simulated as the ideal opener for 13pool or higher builds (though that was probably significantly after you made this video); and let's be frank, it's far easier to do correctly than any extractor trick (though you didn't do that here).
@aterimperator Wow harsh mate, I would just like to point out that this video was made at like the beginning of beta. I will openly admin that there's a lot of mistakes in this video. It was just a basic build for people who got into the beta but had never played SC before. Apparently some people are still using this as a rough guideline anyways.
@SCBattleGrounds Truth be told, I probably will use something like this. I have trouble against 2gate and 3gate protoss, as well as 2racks and 3racks terran... I'm a macro player (I guess), I tend to win late game by having more resources than I even know what to do with (or can even possibly use), but the early game kills me. I need to figure out how to use speedlings and banelings properly, because a fast expansion is often the wrong answer (and sometimes while scouting even I know this).
Nothing, All you need is a single spawning pool, there is no benefit of having multiple spawning pools unless you want to do the two separate upgrades at the same time (which would honestly make no sense)
And @SCBattleGrounds, I'm assuming it's just me being too nitpicky but you state you can have up to 7 larvae at a single hatchery. You do realize you can continue using the skill and have as many larvae as you want at a single hatchery? (It's pretty useful for mid/late game pump)
@x1ViRuS1x The limit is not 7 as I had stated in this video. Blizzard had stated a while ago that it would be 7 (like back before beta even started I think) but then had changed it before the beta began or sometime shortly after to 19.
@SCBattleGrounds Got it. And sorry, just a player to player question since Zerg is definitely my weakest and I'd like to up my Zerg game (and you definitely know what you're doing as far as Zerg play). Due to the high Gas cost of mutas, when would you personally go for a expo? Since I know whenever I do a Muta rush the gas is definitely the limiting factor.
@x1ViRuS1x As far as expo timing it depends on what you scout from your opponent and how muta heavy you want your army to be. There's not really a clear cut answer for that question, it's all about reading the situation. As for all the extra minerals and not enough gas, when you find yourself in that situation you can get another expo, or just mass up some speedlings to support your mutas.
As has been said before: nothing of value. For zerg, most buildings just allow larva to hatch into different things. Once you have a spawning pool you can make zerglings.
But I wonder if you ask because you hear things like "6 pool". This does not mean "create 6 spawning pools" it means "create a spawning pool when you have only 6 drones" (something I do not recommend), or 9OL means make an overlord when you have 9 drones (something I do recommend).
just won my first maytch ever using this build and going ultra.. we both were noobs but after a while he went anti air but at the end i flanked his defences and got him from behind, thank you man and kee up the videos, suscribed.
screw this game, 20 million ppl mastered it on beta so any of us normal ppl that wanna have fun can be meat in multiplayer when we first install the game for first time on release w/e blizzrd ftw
yeah your opening build is flawed....build drones to 10...make an overlord and immediately drop a pool as overlord finishes...thats how you can effectively 10 pool, after that you can make drones till 13 supply, save...Make a queen and 6 lings(+2 more lings with an extractor trick, or a drone if you want to expand right away
@SCBattleGrounds To tell you the truth I used this build when I first started playing haha xD I just stopped using it after i got into higher leagues, but it's still a nice build. You should post a video with the modifications ;D
@BlackRain243 Haha not so much mate. I actually was a Platinum 1v1 and used this most of the time as my opener. I have modified it slightly since I made this video but I have had a good amount of success in the old Platinum league with this opener. Please don't be condescending.
@SCBattleGrounds To tell you the truth I used this build when I first started playing haha xD I just stopped using it after i got into higher leagues, but it's still a nice build. You should post a video with the modifications ;D
@OrdoMallius While 8 Pool may get Zerglings out quicker it's a bit 'gimmicky' and leaves you very open if it's not effective. This Speedling build is not only great harassment but it also transitions well into the late game, particularly Hydras. I've found that 8 Pool is more or less and 'all-in' build and if it fails you are pretty much certain to lose because while you were cutting drones to get 6 quick Zerglings your opponent was building econ.
10pool, 10extractor, 10 overlord, save larvae for 8 lings, @100 gas speed, 2 drone, 1 queen, lair ASAP
Much better if you are decent at micro (you will almost always get your lings in opponent base before the wall in, harrass and after around 20 sec, you get ling speed)
you can time 14 hatch 13 pool with speedlings, much better strat than this :O, gives you an economic advantage late game but it is ~20-30 seconds slower to get the initial lings out, but it does give you good output with larvae and you really need more than 2 gas for mutas(100 gas each hurts)
@sizzle1337 you cant really do a 14 hatch in a 2v2(unless your playing against jackasses)...That in itself is an All in play because they can just rush you out of the game your queen will not even be up yet to provide any support
you can try banelings mixed with zerglings. take out groups of units with the banelings and then your speedies can go rape opponents economy without resistance.
I wonder if the Protoss player was a little slow. He warped in 3 pylons before warping in the third Gate and if he did that with v7.0 AI he would be in a lot of trouble.
@ninja122334 i have been using camtasia to render the final version but i use fraps to actually do the screen capture. i was having a hard time trying to get camtasia to record well in a full screen game so i went looking around and found fraps.
Dude can you inbox me this build order it be helpful or anyone here.

What build was SC2 on when you made this?
IriathZhul 1 year ago
@IriathZhul This was like the first or second patch I believe. It was created fairly shortly after the beta was released.

yeah your opening build is flawed....build drones to 10...make an overlord and immediately drop a pool as overlord finishes...thats how you can effectively 10 pool, after that you can make drones till 13 supply, save...Make a queen and 6 lings(+2 more lings with an extractor trick, or a drone if you want to expand right away

yea this strat sucks in 1v1

@SCBattleGrounds To tell you the truth I used this build when I first started playing haha xD I just stopped using it after i got into higher leagues, but it's still a nice build. You should post a video with the modifications ;D

This strategy could probably dominate Gold League (Old Silver) but I doubt it could be successful against any league above that
BlackRain243 1 year ago
@BlackRain243 Haha not so much mate. I actually was a Platinum 1v1 and used this most of the time as my opener. I have modified it slightly since I made this video but I have had a good amount of success in the old Platinum league with this opener. Please don't be condescending.

@SCBattleGrounds lol nice harass man
TheDoomgul 1 year ago
if you want to do more harass go 8pool
OrdoMallius 1 year ago
@OrdoMallius While 8 Pool may get Zerglings out quicker it's a bit 'gimmicky' and leaves you very open if it's not effective. This Speedling build is not only great harassment but it also transitions well into the late game, particularly Hydras. I've found that 8 Pool is more or less and 'all-in' build and if it fails you are pretty much certain to lose because while you were cutting drones to get 6 quick Zerglings your opponent was building econ.
SCBattleGrounds 1 year ago
10pool, 10extractor, 10 overlord, save larvae for 8 lings, @100 gas speed, 2 drone, 1 queen, lair ASAP
Much better if you are decent at micro (you will almost always get your lings in opponent base before the wall in, harrass and after around 20 sec, you get ling speed)
kamikrazi123 1 year ago
Queen's spawn larvae and Nexus' Chrono Boost skills are essential in putting out units fast enough =P
Gooshnads 1 year ago
you can time 14 hatch 13 pool with speedlings, much better strat than this :O, gives you an economic advantage late game but it is ~20-30 seconds slower to get the initial lings out, but it does give you good output with larvae and you really need more than 2 gas for mutas(100 gas each hurts)
sizzle1337 1 year ago
@sizzle1337 you cant really do a 14 hatch in a 2v2(unless your playing against jackasses)...That in itself is an All in play because they can just rush you out of the game your queen will not even be up yet to provide any support
MadMAn12gauge 1 year ago
you can try banelings mixed with zerglings. take out groups of units with the banelings and then your speedies can go rape opponents economy without resistance.
torterra619 1 year ago
You can continue to spawn larvae on a hatchery up to 19 saved up... Also, each spawn brings six more larvae, total 9 per round of spawning.

I wonder if the Protoss player was a little slow. He warped in 3 pylons before warping in the third Gate and if he did that with v7.0 AI he would be in a lot of trouble.
Nice teamwork, by the way.

hey I am wondering how you recorded this game. camtasia?
ninja122334 1 year ago
@ninja122334 i have been using camtasia to render the final version but i use fraps to actually do the screen capture. i was having a hard time trying to get camtasia to record well in a full screen game so i went looking around and found fraps.

kinda like 9 pool speed by you get the overlord before the buildings are totally made :)
