However, extracting enoguh Nickel for one prius does about the same ammount of envieronmental damage as creating an XJ220, and using it for 10 years. It also switches to a normal engine at 70km/h. So if you hippies want to save the envieronment, buy a Nissan Leaf.
@Mrinebriation No I want to see your facts as well. The production of a prius is much more harmful to the environment then a making and using a hummer. A prius doesn't last 1/3 as long as a hummer would. And any diesel engine is far superior. If you want an environmentally friendly at least try.. Get a vw passat tdi clean diesel. Don't follow a trend, everyone that doesn't like a prius also makes fun of you. which is 98% of the world or so I bet.

The Toyota Prius campaign is a complete farce. Every car-manufacturing process is essentially destructive (I cannot think of an industry that is not), but the Prius will use less gasoline (and so less of that entire industrial process) over its VERY long life than most other gas-powered vehicles anywhere in the world. If the ads bother you, engage your critical thinking and see the truth.

The nickle mined causes lots of damage including acid rain, then it has to be shipped (carbon footprint) to the Europe where its processed, then again to China where its turned into a foam (another carbon footprint), then shipped AGAIN to Japan where its put into the batteries (another carbon foot print). All that for a car thats supposed to be a hybrid......

Clean diesels are much better, but ounce for ounce you get more power out of diesel then gas. Only reason diesel is more expensive over here is because we don't have the market share for it. I'm simply saying that the Prius is not a green car, contrary to popular belief and a new Eco Cruze will get almost comparable MPG.

@marym2011 i will have lots of fun with it. 16 city 23 highway, it aint too bad. no expensive batteries to replace, cheap to insure and maintain. no car payments, reliable, and proven over 50 years one of the best engines ever produced. oh, and its carbon debt.... paid off years ago since the car is a 1989(camaro). my other car is a 1991 chevy cavalier and gets 21/29, and is real cheap to maintain and insure. these newer hybrid things are nothing more than stupid image cars.

Lets see for a Hybrid you have either the choice of a Honda or Toyota and considering Hybrids are extreemly complacted cars there is no choice really. I trust Toyota with this technolgly but i shure don't trust Honda. Honda's normal cars are allready far to poorly made so no way would i buy a Honda hybrid.

Last week a 3rd gen prius keep on jumping in front of me every time I change lane, i was going really slow,60 spd, trying to get great gas , but that bastard keep on cutting me. @shermanb27 Then you know absolutely nothing about this car. The ore used to make the battery damages the environment, then its shipped somewhere else to be processed, then shipped to China to be turned into a foam, then shipped the Japan where its made into batteries. By the time all this has taken place, one Prius has done more damage to the environment than an old used old land rover. Buying a domestic car that gets more than 32 mpg is better for the environment, and costs much much less.

Those tiny tiny undersized wheels are an eye sore, it throws off the design of the entire car. That new sport hybrid by Honda is also a joke. Its just as slow as a Prius, the ride is shit, and the quality isn't that great. Go buy a domestic. There's some really good new domestics now, the american automobile industry has gone through some serious changes in the past 10 years.

@jbrcar Recently ford has been making some improvements, only recently they've been getting better... but you're right, GM could do better. They've got the ball rolling though, and they're getting better.
What I can't wait to see is the new Volvo C30 coming out either this year or next. Its supposed to have AWD with over 400 torque! Awesome... hopefully the WRX and the Evo will have a new contender to battle against. I would love to see that.
