People do not realize that Harold Pinter was Jewish and heartily condemned Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine and Israel's current brutal treatment of Gaza. Pinter was one of 105 prominent Jews who signed a We're not celebrating Israel's Anniversary petition in April of 2008.

The final paragraph of this petition reads as follows " We cannot celebrate the birthday of a state founded on terrorism, massacres and the dispossession of another people from their land.

I saw this whole speech when it was first shown on television, I couldn't move from my seat I was transfixed by his words, and perhaps in part because of how fragile he was at the time, I found it moving and thought provoking.
