@socrates1818 Sgt Pepper on of the greatest LPs of all time???? Why? Apart from a couple of trippy songs, the rest is little more than nursery rhyme lyrics to brass band music. It is not even the best Beatles album of all time, which would be a toss up between the White Album and Abbey Road. If you wanna hear decent guitar, listen to Jan Akkerman.
@TheMiserablegit Beatles wrote their own stuff, were creatively innovative,AND, you can remember their tunes, lyrics...These guys are great musicians, but they are not on the same level as the Beatles.
saw Buddy Miles and Mike at the Bodega, in Campbell Calif., back in the early 70's. During one of Bloomfield's sets, while I was sitting at the edge of the stage, some "Yuppie" said something stupid about the music, which being an avid Buddy and Mike fan, I decided to break his face right there on the stage. So Mike added a new verse which ended with, "...and they were fighting right here on the stage, but the the band played on." Mike, Elvin and I sure do miss you. R.I.P. ...bigeye
great great album...i think these guys burned everything on this album and didn't have anywhere else to go...not to mention bloomfield's addiction and eventual OD couldn't have helped...and jimi wanted buddy for band of gypsies
I had this album as a kid and this track leads it off and is the best, especially if you remember LBJ. I heard the band at the Fillmore East. They had a flag on top of the keyboard with a fan blowing it. Great stuff. I don't know why they didn't last longer. Maybe they needed a more high profile vocalist.
Red, I know how you feel I was disappointed when he left Paul... but it was time for him to move on and after I experienced the results I'm glad he did ......Electric Flag didn't last long.... they burned bright and fast ....but what a masterpiece they created ....and now we can enjoy Mike's work in two of the greatest blues bands of all time ...what a treasure he left us with
takes me back to black lights, ripple wine, and the fine colombian. My friend Jimmy and I used to crank this up in his basement....Jimmy's gone now, but it's a sweet memory.
for me, this is a masterpiece! I've been lovin' it for over 40 years. Electric Flag is the most underrated of all time! This just takes off and doesn't want to land!!
@tariksba Yes that is Mr. Buddy Miles on the left. And thank you so much for stoppin by to listen to this. Means a lot. ♥ .....and yes- he did some awesome stuff with Hendrix. Hendrix's version is beyond words indeed. Peace & best to ya.
Thank you for The Rock Machine Turns You On; it was one of the most influential albums of my life. Unfortunately, when I try to play some of the tracks I get this message "This video contains content from SME. It is not available in your country. Sorry about that." Is there a way 'round this?
Back when I was 17 I was more into Stones, Sabbath, Zep, Jimi ,and even the Beatles. Then somebody told me about Electric Flag. Gave it a listen and I have been Blues based ever since. They were doing the old stuff and i thought it was all new. What great stuff! Then I wonder what 80's 90's and beyond did they influence?
saw em the first time around 67` We were comin back from a weekend at clearlake & decided to go to tower records near fishermans wharf & maybe score some smoke.somebody pointed us to a small park right on the bay where they were playin free, still smell patchouli oil. oh, got the smoke too
I have this on vinyl...bought it in 1970 in San Francisco, back from Vietnam...It's in a box with the rest of my albums......You Tube is great.....you never get old...:o)
This is one of the truly great albums of the 60s--probably best rock/blues combination of the time. Jimi Hendrix jammed with them whenever he had a chance.
OMG! I brought this album in 1968, and actually wore it out in the first year. Had to toss it! It became un-playable, but I never replaced it.....just moved forward to other blues groups and especially toward "Tower of Power". Man, I would love to find this album or a CD of it again. Thanks for posting this.
@mattbwright Im so glad you found this. Im hapy it makes YOU happy. Maybe I can post more stuff that people will love so much. Hope so. We'll see. Peace and many thanks.
Just like to point out that Harvey Rich& Richie Havens are both featured. But let's not forget to mention Nick Gravenites whose vocal& guitar work ,as always, is outstanding!
This is my favorite album; when I first got this album back in "68" I wore it out on my cheap old record player. Since then I've had two vinyl copies. Now I have it on CD. Just an all round great recording of an almost forgotten group and time. A must have for those lost on a desert island.
One of the really great albums of the sixties. Saw them play at Fillmore East just after this album came out, after a few numbers Jimi Hendrix came out to jam with them. Knocked out heads off.
Electric Flag did one of truly all time great Fillmore East concerts in (probably) 69--half way through Jimi Hendrix joined in and the joint went wild.
And Ritchie Havens played sitar on this album but has no pic on this LP. Great stuff! 68' was a good year. Lots of bands could have made Woodstock. Wonder why they didn't. TOUCH made 1 album but disbanded before Woodstock. I know because I got an email from one of the members of TOUCH on my b-day. Small world it truly is. And we're all connected.
Great cut but the beginning is amateurish and the horns monkeying around from about 3:13 to 3:40 is just terrible- otherwise, totally smokin'. sounds like nick took a page out of otis rush' vocal book- Thanks 4 the post
I saw them as the front band for, if you can believe it, Arhur Brown, you know, the "Fire" guy. Brown burned his hair and costume and fell off the stage that night. Served him right for ridiculing Flag, telling me no one digs that sound anymore; they're out-of-date, he told me. Yeah, like he lasted a long time too.
Dino Valente (Chet Powers), eventually of Quicksilver Messenger Service, wrote "Get Together' when he was a folkie ... Gravenites did not write it ...
The Electric Flag was the foundation for the upcoming blues and R&B scene in the San Francisco Bay Area. After the Flag broke up, Buddy Miles started, "Loading Zone". That was the foundation for "Tower Of Power".
Nick Gravenites, the lead singer, discovered Janis Joplin and wrote "Get Together", for the Youngbloods. Any fans of this fantastic group, please email me.
Thankyou for uploading this video, NoRosesforme. Here's a rose for you anyways..
I learned every song on this album when it came out. My brother gave me guitar lesson and I could burn on it. I learned about music as a foundation from this album too. I had about four copies cause I wore them out. My brother jammed with Bloomfield weeks before he died. He is my Guitar Hero. A true Blue musician and and a real American.
(Chester Burnett) I bought this album on the Sunset Strip in LA in 1968. get this, and Mike Bloomfield/Al Kooper; Super Sessions" a jam album. BTW, it might be good to pick up electric Mud- Muddy Waters & Paul Butterfield Blues band .
yea thanks man..these are all blues rite?..my guitar teacher tought me this song on the guitar a long time ago..n i saw so many of this song i wanted to know the original..ive always wanted to get more into blues becouse blues is the foundation of metal
tanvo93: You might also want to check out Howlin' Wolf's version with Eric Clapton and Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones. It's from an album from 1970 called "The London Howlin Wolf Sessions". It might be here on YouTube.
aite cool...u kno any good other blues artists 2?im tryin to get into more western european music and blues...cuz im a metalhead id like to learn more about the origins so i can get better understanding
For metalhead guitarists, I recommend T-Bone Walker and Hubert Sumlin for the pentatonic scale. BB King for string bending and vibrato technique. Jimmy Reed for rythym guitar. Chuck Berry for speed. And Muddy Waters for additude!!
As for records to listen to, I recommend anything on Chess Records from Chicago in the 1950's.

EXCELLENT !!! I wore out 3 vinyl copies before getting the disc...OUTSTANDING group...WHERE are all the great bands/supergroups TODAY like those that exsisted in the '67-70 era !?!?!?!?...these poor kids today don't have ANYTHING close to this to listen to...
When this Album first came out, I damn near wore it out ! My oldest boy now owns the remains !!!! Buddy Miles, Lonnie Brooks, Richie Havens were in that band too ! What a early super group!!!
I first had this on tape. I wore it out too! haha!
And yes- Richie Havens played on this album. Buddy Miles was a regular member of the band. Sang a lot of the songs on the album. Im really glad you enjoyed this. Its one of my most favorites bands/albums. =)))
Richie recorded w/ the Flag, but wasn't a member. He got involved because some of the band were session players on his records. It's Harvey Brooks (on bass), no Lonnie, (a lead guitarist).
Yes, great album, and still available on CD. But FYI, it was Harvey (not Lonnie) Brooks on bass, and Herbie Rich (not Richie Haven)... along with the sensational Mike Bloomfield, whose solos on this tune alone are worth the price of admission.
It's too bad the original lineup didn't last beyond the debut. Album #2 was also good, but without Bloomfield it was missing the candle on the cake.
@zzwoody1 Wow.....all I had growin up was a cassette tape which my dear brother & friend (Desmond) sent to me. ( Love ya Des) I am not kiddin- I wore out that tape. I played it THAT much. It was the most perfect band I had heard besides Muddy Waters' band(s). Just too amazing. Thank you for your comment and thank you for listening and Im so glad you enjoy this. Truly. Peace ♥
Just look at that picture. They were left out of Monterrey Pop because of the way they "looked". I heard Jimi Hendrix burned and copulated with his guitar because he wanted to show up Michael Bloomfield. Please, I'm only the messenger! For the musicians, listen closely and you'll hear the way Michael "sweeps" his guitar. He did this often. Never heard anyone do
Check out the Electric Flag doing WINE live. How can anyone listen to nonsense like the Beatles after hearing this?

I think that's the only instrument he played on this LP.

Never heard anyone do
that so well. It's one of his signature licks.

What a energy! The first version I ever heard with a horn session on it. Great! Oh God...if I had a horn session in my band...hehehe!
