  • Bill Evans - the Chomsky of jazz

  • how could any one of BILL EVANS students not want to do what Bill is teaching, Bill Evans is a pure genius

  • I wish brother would stop interrupting

  • Beautiful!

  • Need a love button...fuck this like bullshit

  • @xMPCxx

    I second!

  • Lord how I wish I couldve been one of those 11 students of his...

  • you can drill them and teach them how to handle things, but that is a kind of subtle forcing of will upon them so they can see something for themselves, but you are still an active influence on that, no matter how subtle, and so it will never be the real initial insight of their own into something that truly sparked their interest. you cannot have interest unless you realize or understand something in some way. appreciation of any kind. that is the primary factor in skill of any kind.

  • that is basically the essence of being a parent. always be on the lookout for what interests them, and let them go as far as they want, as fast as they want. of course, you could say it might be best or wise to tell them that they might want to take it slow, to really see and feel for themselves how interaction with the creative process affects them, and how they affect their own mood or the outcome of their interaction, whether it's conscious or not. they have to find out for themselves.

  • i disagree with the interviewer a 2:19. there is no essence of teaching. there is no way to get someone excited about something. they get excited about it when it strikes them as interesting or intriguing. teaching means to see what interests someone and make access to more things like that, with perhaps some suggenstions, but they decide.

  • @BodhiSvaha persuasion

  • Thank You very much for time and info. im looking for "the path"...my path and this help to.

  • Could anyone write the important points please?

Some of us cant listen English but we could read it.

    Reply me please.

  • it's about learning jazz step by step in a true and hardworking way, so you understand everything you play, instead of approxiamating the whole problem and overplay something you don't know what is. You must know your music changes, know the things that have been played before, and know what you have to do.. with a spark of adventure.

  • @kf40 what do you mean by "thier old hurts?"

  • I love Bill. I can't even believe someone could think like that in 50's and 60's. I think, he was just honest with who he was and what he did. I also love the idea of kf40 that it works in our every day life!

  • very precious ideas!!!

  • Beautiful play at the end

  • Thanks !

    It is really good video...

by the way...I didn't know evans has a brother...

    anyway...thanks !!!

  • wonderful. i teach guitar and have learned lots from this. thanks for the download.

  • whos the other one? who is like interviewing evans?

  • that's his brother!

  • That's Bill's brother.

  • priceless footage and confirmation of principles I have discovered. Being"real" is paramount in jazz that "tells stories."

  • i agree completely.

  • Brilliant advice and comments about the real education of a jazz musician: self-discovery. Simply beautiful.
