@Skuxxguys I've just checked the tutorial. I did try to explain the rhythm. The off beat bass line is tricky and it takes time to get comfortable with it.

Why are you using the transpose feature on this? Is it easier in the key you're playing now?

Also, I think the bass line at the end of the figure is G-A, not D-E.

@DonMatar I cannot remember what the original key was, but some of the more awkward keys restrict what you can play. For example which keys you can slide of and which larger chords you can get your fingers to. Can you give a minutes:seconds point where you mean on the bass line?

@DashawnJizzle I know it's difficult, but decide if you want to be professional or not. If so, then find out about how other professional musicians (classical, jazz, rock or studio-based) got started - it's much easier to follow a known route. If you don't want to be professional, then just buy good equipment and enjoy playing whatever sounds good to your ears.

Paul, just completely blown away by all your stuff. I play by ear too, but just hearing your playing inspires me every time to try and take it to another level. I'm particularly inspired by your bass lines. Are they modelled closely on the bass lines of the original song, or do you improvise them largely? And if the latter, how did you develop that feel?

@epyx88 I've largely given up playing real pianos because they have nowhere near enough bass. I add as much bass to the mix as I can. If you do that then you naturally become very aware of what you're doing with the bass. On Bill Withers 'Lovely Day' I did copy the bass line. I normally just copy important features of the bass line, but if I'm playing without drums I use the bass to create the beat - which a real bass player wouldn't need to do to the same extent.
