  • A good work, but the microkorg arp sound is quite boring, try to use more modulation (delay, chorus, ...)

Is there a problem to your DX7 LCD?

  • Thanks for the insight :)

I guess I really should add more effects to the bell-thing, perhaps some real-time manual modulation as well. I am just too easily pleased by sounds I create myself^^

And yes, the LED display on the DX7 is mostly broken, but it is redundant anyway (I have not yet missed its functionality).

  • I don't know if the song has a drum part, but if you don't have a drum machine, you can use the SE!quencer with octal drum sounds.

  • I used the SE!quencer exclusively.

Recently I recorded another song, with octal drums, but the available voices quickly max out; also it is quite difficult to achieve a decent drum kit on the DX7 (to me, at least).

  • To create an octal drum kit you need to create eight different voices and use microtuning to build more drum sounds. I don't know if I can, but I try to send you a decent drum kit (you'll need a RAM cart). On Ebay there are also some floppies where you can find these sounds (ask the E! expansion with the disks).

  • Thanks, that would be very kind of you to send me your drum kit.

But what does microtuning have to do with drums? Or did you mean fractional scaling? On the E! floppy I have some (non-octal) drum sounds that employ fractional scaling to create different sounds in one voice.

Also: I understand one could create a more or less complete drum kit when using all eight voices and splitting the keyboard, but then you'd have made a drum machine out of the DX7 ;)

  • Ops, little error - Fractional Scaling. Obviously the DX7 can't be a drum machine, but a drum kit in SE!quencer lets you create songs with only the DX7 and discover his power (what a good idea - a song with only one legendary synth) --- Alesis SR16 is very good and low priced as drum machine (better than SR18)
