How to put the Nokia N900 into phone mode quickly

Yeah, you can play realmedia stuff by installing "Extra Decoders Support" from the Application Manager.

If you want more info on doing that, go to our channel and watch the video on downloading freeware from Maemo Extras / maemo org.

i dug deeper on the web and found out that the phone doesn't play real audio !! that's probably the first nokia smartphone not to support real audio .

Well, if you've installed the extra decoders it ought to work. If they don't work for you, try posting some feedback on the extra decoders page on maemo org.

Another alternative is to install a third party media player, there are free ones in the maemo org catalogue.

If you still can't get it to work, a workaround is to convert the RM files into another format on your PC (AAC, MP3, WMA, MP4 all work by default, OGG also works if you have installed the extra decoders).

My N900 is running very poorly. i'm sure its sowtware related. it cant multitask at all. how do i extend the ram with virtyal memory. and how can i factory reset my phone???

i want to wipe every thing and load the firmware. please some one answer these questions if you know.

If it's totally failing to multitask then it sounds like your unit has severe problems, and I'd advise you to take it into a repair centre as it will still be under manufacturers guarantee (1 or 2 years depending on where you live).

You can find your nearest repair centre by going to your local Nokia website and clicking on Support.

If you want to try wiping it with the latest firmware, you can format it with Nokia Software Updater for your PC.

It extends RAM automatically I believe.

nice. I love my n900. just a few questions. how can you set the flash to record video at night?

I don't think you can do it officially, but there may be an unofficial plugin that lets you do it. Try asking on the Nokia support forum or the maemo website.

By the way I should make clear we're nothing to do with Nokia, All About Maemo is an unofficial website so we can't really help with support stuff. :)

You may be able to get brighter pictures on the video by adjusting the exposure setting, click on the spanner icon to access it while in video mode.
