Hi . My family lived at the forest museum forty years ago. I was 13 years old and with my brother and sisters we "fired"the locie a lot for our father who was the engineer at the time. We spent a year there. It was the year they added the new track to the loop with its lovely diamond crossing and longer ride. Dads been gone a long time but your cab ride took me back 40 years to the good o days thanks . cheers
@sugarjacki Thank you for these kind words. I'm delighted to have salvaged this old tape and to be able to bring it here to you all. I wish I could travel again to BC (I live in France now).
Thanx for the link! Glad you got to ride! I ran a 1952 Swithcher for A TIME THAT OUR RAILROAD HAD BOUGHT FROM THE aRMY, AND THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN BEING IN THE CAB
I've had the fortune of knowing a friend whos given me ride Cab rides in his 0-6-0 ex Essex Terminal Railroad. Also got first ride in an F-7 and a Jeep.
Thankyou for posting this video, I worked at the BC Forest Museum at this time and it was nice to see Bob again, sadly he passed away in 1999. This is a nice memorial to him on the internet, unfortunately there are no definite plans to rebuild the Shay
Thank you so muchPH, I so sad to learn about Bob. I met him in 96 on a 1st trip to BC (from France). He gave me his email and we talked a lot. I made another trip in 98 where he was still there and again invited me onboard. I have the tapes I shot in 96 also but didn't posted another vid as it's almost a duplicate. But if you wish, I'll compile the segments where Bob is seen. Usually, I don't show much of the people, in case prefer not to be exposed. Drop me a line and I'll compile another vid.
Actually, I have some other footage of a cab ride in the same Shay ...a year earlier in 1995. I wonder if I should post a clip here too. Thanks for the comment.

When I was younger, I was lucky enough to ride in the cab of this train, their "Green Hornet" and the "Sandy Speeder"
Such luck for someone with a love of trains.
I need to go back there some time soon.

And: That clip has now a lot of interest because that Shay is stopped cold. I hope they'll get the funding to repair it!
