  • This song is just a good 'old school' song about a paralyzed war veteran whose wife apparently can't handle it either. Might think about that the next time you welcome a vet! They face a lot of issues that we take for granted. Just getting back alive may not be as great as it sounds! Yes, the audio is not too hot, but this is a golden oldie, so stop hatin' you little bitches! LOL.So, do you think she stayed at home or not?

  • Lindíssima!

  • not many ppl know it but a man in metropolis illinois wrote that song his name was jr teitloff he also wrote raveishing ruby he did not have copy rights to the songs he sent them in to see if they were playable then sent back letter saying that they werent within 6 mo. they come out they stole that poor mans songs and yes he was paralized

  • Did,nt Kenny Rogers re-release Ruby as a solo artist?

  • great song a oldie but goodie.

  • Classic, please dont leave me song, the best!

  • Wow! What a line... 'If I could move I'd get my gun and put her in the ground'

  • great song - Kenny had a cool long haircut before lots of people had the layered look

  • Lonnie Melvin Tillis' classic composition, and Kenny before his Nancy Pelosi face job, wonder how Kenny feels about that? I'd ask him but his face might fly off!

  • Comment removed

  • he looks wasted.

  • ONYA KENNY,40YEARS STILL KICK'N ASS

  • Kenny looks like Walter from the Big Lebowski!

  • @johnnyprussell Walter looks like Kenny Rogers!

  • Kenny could play a pretty good bass....

  • Ruby you ignorant slut!

  • @dicecoWP LOL

  • @dicecoWP LOL

  • @dicecoWP people like ruby pray for them

  • @dicecoWP Ruby - that kind of behavior is to be expected from someone that hops from bed to bed with the frequency of a cheap ham radio!

  • "And if I could move I'd get my gun and put her in the ground" - great line.

  • although i do appreciate his music and some of his movies they dont make singers like this one and others in his era ......cookie cutter performers who dont have anything after a 2 year period and who could not pack a stadium there after.

  • wow to bad he doesnt look like anything he did when this was done !

  • @saratoga443 40 years have a way of doing that.

  • kenny is one of best singers around! and sexest!

  • i cant see kenny doin a anti-war song now!! since hes a big pro war prick now! his friends were dyin then, by now its just a bunch of poor ass kids dyin.. he went from nam protester to pro war!! lets send this old prick to iraq, etc... say its hard to love a man whos legs r bent & paralyed, well , bend em back he wont feel it! and why the hell is he usin a johnny cash riff!

  • @tommieparch Well said pilgrim! What a piece of lowlife shit.

  • @tommieparch just wondering where you get that kenny is pro war?thought maybe he changed his stance so i looked it up and couldnt find anything suggesting that.i do know in the song the last ten years he says"we just might be our own worst enemy".that in itself to me sounds like hes not pro war.if you can please get back with me and let me know where you get your information.

  • @tommieparch people change.... what's wrong with that?

  • @tommieparch kenney ripped this song from another guy.

  • @MsDixieNormous who?

  • @MsDixieNormous I'm not sure if what you mean by ripped. Mel Tillis wrote this song and it was recorded by Johnny Darrell, Statler Brothers, Roger Miller, Bobby Bare, Dale Hawkins, Carl Perkins, Leonard Nimoy, and many others. Kenny Rogers recorded it and it took off.

  • Kenny looks stoned as hell lol ! AWWWWWWE YEAAAAAAAH!

  • MAn.. what has happened to the music?

  • I have always loved this song. I forgot how he looked when he was younger.

  • Kenny had it goin on!!!!!!! He was the first fella I ever had a crush on......

  • a moving classic...

  • So, the good part is, he was unable to get his gun and "put her in the ground" :)

  • It's still one of my favorite songs to this day......and I remember this original. Thanks for posting.

  • I had my students listen to this song when we learned about the 1970.

  • ....you can only imagine how great this video and song is, for someone who didnt exist in this era but searched for history, perfection

  • Written by the great Mel Tillis!

  • Half-Baked.

  • its not " i'd take my gun" ..its " i'd GIT my gun ..and put her in the ground. listen up boy!

  • kenny's bass playin is perfection...and i agree the tambourine is infectuous...but the heralding guitar riff reminds of the heralding flute in the star spangled banner. i luvs me sum heralding..

  • That tambourine is infectious

  • "And if I could move, I'd take my gun and put her in the ground"....Nice. :[

  • Cool ... never seen this performed live around the time of the record release ... and didn't know Kenny was a bass player too. Always loved this song. Wayne

  • Nice Kenny!

  • MAN ! How stoned is Kenny !

  • you are so right!

  • Who's playing lead? Really torching it, whoever it is.

  • im ruby...kenny rogers has always been the best ruby song

  • @rubybiebs08 --

My cousin Roger Terry wrote this song not many people know this.

He sold the song to Mel Tillis not sure why Kenny sang it?

Roger is from Kentucky, just retired hostage negotiator in Chicago....

  • @00Hersocute00 Mel felt it was more suited to Mr Rogers Mel was going through some trying times @ that time..... & Remember Mel had the Studder?... The song simply did not suit him. His choice He had no regrets !

  • Love the earring. Not a lot of men wore earrings in the early seventies.

  • Kenny Rogers - what an exceptional artist and writer

  • @casiokunt

    He's not a writer, gavone

  • @highnrising

Kenneth Donald "Kenny" Rogers, born August 21, 1938, is an American singer-songwriter, photographer, record producer, actor, and entrepreneur. smartarse

  • Seen this video 100's of times, still amazed by the man's ability to write, sing and play the bass guitar, he's carrying the whole song. That's a Fender 1951 model I believe...

  • She's not taking her love to town !! Just her ass and her lust ha ha ha And I will be waiting in town for her ha ha ha ha !!

  • Not just paralyzed, but bent AND paralyzed

  • @juffan that's me bro

  • @juffan LMAO!!!!

  • He didn't start that crazy asian war. It wasn't his idea

  • Ruby was a bitch.

  • He is SO wasted in this.

  • @mikastu he does look pretty laid back...although he's shredding that bass pretty good.

  • best ever!

  • Isn't this a anti-Nam song?

  • Ear ring and all stil love this man's voice and singing style timing is fantastic holds notes so well and emphasis on everything just right

  • Great tune, written by M-M-M-Mel Tillis!

  • Mary arnold married Roger Miller and he enjoyed his final years with her.Roger and Kenny both country Legends.

  • the first edition were great. Mary Arnold played the tamborine.Later married the legend Roger Millar.

  • 3 people took their love to town

  • i was loving this song on the killers sawdust album and thought this cant be there song. and its not! haha i like the killers version but its not much different, and this coming from a 20 year old so u old blocks dont get angry at me lol

  • One of the best songs ever written and performed.

  • tHAT IS LINDA RONSTADT

  • ROCK THE F*#K OUT OF THAT TAMBOURINE !!!

    she looks like Linda Ronstadt?

  • That woman rocks the tambourines!

  • Kenny was such a badass back then..............note the earring in his left ear.

  • @lurch321 Yeah, I don't recall anyone wearing an earring back in 1972. Long hair on men was still somewhat controversial.

  • I think you will find it referred to the KOREAN war rather then Vietnam

  • @elondontopguy Hmm.. debate over the vet in the song having been disabled in war in Korea vs. Vietnam ... "crazy Asian war" ... I do believe Iraq and Afghanistan are considered Asia so, yes, "We can [indeed] listen to this today with the same love and concern we did then" as "The022450" wrote. Aside from that, great performance of a great song I'd not heard in some time!

  • classic

  • Quality Geetaaar Strummmiin !

  • Never knew that Kenny played bass.

  • My mother R.I.P. I am so glad you raised with some classic songs, to you Dolores I love & Miss you, thank you for the variety of music I grew up with, it made my character today, the person I am today, because of your musicical influences!

  • LYING EYES

  • LYIN EYES

  • I don't like the Partridge Family-style matching suits, but the song is good and the chick with the go-go boots and tambourine is hot.

  • This is great.

  • wow he didn't have grey hair all his life - beautiful !!!

  • Grande, genial, espectacular, fascinante, fabuloso..... no hay palabras para este SUPERHOMBRE de la música y esta impresionante canción.

  • This is real music.

bittersweet to listen to it knowing the crap thats on the airwaves now.

  • OH RUBY......DON'T TAKE YER THAING TO TOWN!

Not so far off now Pakrick

  • So my boyfriend likes this song because it has my name in it...? haha :) <3

  • Saw Kenny Rogers and First Edition at Chautauqua Institution back in the 1970's waht classic show.. How Kenny Rogers has changed over the years.

  • looks like richard branson crossed with rolf harris lol

  • ruby dont drop your nickers down

  • Kenny Rogers = Pimp

  • Thatt's the fact "JacK' ! ;>)

  • Got to disagree The022450, he was at his best with Just Dropped in to See What Condition my Condition was In - how psychedelic is that?!? Also, what a fox Thelma Camacho was - the chick on the tambourine. Peace Life Love Light (and lively up yourselves). Rock on....

  • fuckin drug addict hippy like jim morrison

  • @copperjones1915 that's completely irrelevant to the music, you fucking slime.

  • fuckin drug addict hippy

  • I can relate to this song.

  • Yup, and its not even his song. Sorry I mean Yep.

  • Crazy Asian war, which one? lol Great song!

  • @demopley I think the song refers to the korean war. but the song was popular during the vietnam war - so most people thought of vietnam when hearing the song.

  • In this case less is more !

The remake of the killers is not far so good as this .

Special the lexness off the beginning ( his smooth voice ) is top.

And not to forget The bass guitar . I love it.

  • i knew kenny played the guitar but i never knew he played the bass?

  • Kenny's on serious ludes

  • @guydwy LMAO, yes, that's what it looks like!! Great comment!

  • Kenny looks like he could use some more ludes lol

  • god bless kenny!

  • Back in the 70's, I had hair like Kenny Roger's. Now, I have no hair...bummer.

  • @fullmooney1

Yeah!! The Yanks should have nuked those commie bastards in Nam!!

  • A cliche song wrote by an able-bodied person, that plays on the ignorant stereo type that the disabled are unmanly and powerless, it could be said that it puts into song the angst of the newly disabled but it really dehumanize their plight as well by forwarding the "better dead then crippled" dogma .

  • @isaacbod

    Get over it!!!

  • i like the killers cover better

  • This is the BETTER version. ; -)

  • many years ago this song helped me through some bad times ,with some special help and real friends I overcame some bad bad memories .THANKS

  • not sure about getting my gun....but i've heard that door slam 100 times also....:(

  • @custer1968 Dont worry, the other Custer wasnt so lucky either.

  • We can listen to this today with the same love and concern we did then(Vietnam)..it applies now ..you'd be surprised. Great song!! One of the best ever recorded. Kenny IS his best on this song.

  • yup

  • @The022450 I always thought it to be about Korea (but actually that's not the point of the song).

  • @The022450 It's a good Mel Tillis song.

  • @767Jetboy

    You are absolutely almost correct,

Mel Tillis although he did not write this song he bought the rights to it.

My cousin Roger Terry wrote the song..sold it to Mel Tillis for 17,000.00..

Roger became a hostage negotiator in Chicago after Viet Nam..

    Awesome song..
